Thanks, hawkman, for the great bio's, and when a parrot quotes a chicken, we are in reverse gear, Boston. Love it.

Well, firefly has revisited Terry Thomas and the clips were great. Once again we are in your debt. I only recall the man in Mad, Mad,Mad,Mad, world.

Two things, folks. First I recall having read The Magic Lantern when I was quite young. I really thought the idea of the book was about the beginning of movies. I did not pay attention to the fact that it was Ingmar Bergman. Through a Glass Darkly is taken from the Bible: "Now we see through a glass darkly..."

Also, I didn't realize that Bergman did an adaptation of Mozart's "Magic Flute"

Did NOT know that Arthur Laurents did La Cage Aux Folles from which the American version, The Bird Cage, was taken. One funny movie with Gene Hackman and Robin Williams.

First, The Magic Flute; then a funny song from La Cage Aux Folles.

Loved hearing the Mozart, Letty, and that number from La Cage Aux Follies was wonderful. Both the French and American versions of that movie were hilarious.

Christie Brinkley's current messy divorce has been all over the news lately. She also didn't have much luck with her marriage to this talented guy.

Love Billy Joel, firefly. One of my favorites by him. (your rain, our threat of a slow moving tropical storm off Bermuda)

Dear Karen Carpenter. How sad that she should be so concerned about what someone who referred to her as being pudgy. That fear developed into Anorexia nervosa which cost her dearly.

From karen, folks.

Harry Dean Stanton is a wonderful character actor. This tune was played in his movie, The Green Mile. It's a sweet arrangement,

Dale Robertson appeared in the 1951 movie, Golden Girl. It's soundtrack included the lovely Stephen Foster song, Beautiful Dreamer. I'm posting two versions of this one, and they couldn't be more different.

Here, the wonderful mezzo-soprano, Marilyn Horne, gives us a beautiful, traditional version.

And this one was a real surprise for me. I had never heard it before.

Thanks, firefly and edgar. I especially felt a sense of irony over Woody's song about the plight of Mexican illegal aliens. Now, both presidential candidates are courting the Hispanic vote.

I also find it ironic, folks, that Stephen Foster, a northener, wanted to ease racial injustices by popularizing many minstrel type songs.

I loved Beautiful Dreamer, but only because of some fond memories associated with the song.

My word, firefly, the song Three Little Words goes back farther than I thought. Thanks, dear.

What a surprise to find out that "Old Folks at Home" is Florida's state song. Here we have a jazzed up version with the lyrics. Although I appreciate the performance by these young folks, I really think the ballad version is more poignant.

This song, written by Eric Bogle in 1972, describes the futility, gruesome reality and destruction of war through the eyes of a young Australian soldier who is maimed during the Battle of Gallipoli in the First World War. I find it very powerful and haunting.

Strange, folks, edgar's song "And I Love Her" is nice, especially the lyrics, and it made me think of the first song by the Fab Four that I liked.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdCjaiXmUb0

firefly, That was a powerful song about war. "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" was one that Imur was searching for so long ago.

After hearing that, I thought of Bobby Vinton. Didn't like him in the beginning, but war does make a song sound different.

Loved Charles Aznavour and just found out that he was Armenian-French and can sing in many different languages. Sort of goes with Yesterday.

I edited this particularly transcript because YouTube doesn't seem to be working properly. Let's see what happens now.

Good music. I blow hot and cold with Bobby Vinton. Did you know he's done lots of polka music?

I hardly know anything about Bobby Vinton, edgar. I had to search for a profile and was surprised to find some of the things that he did.

Here's one that I sang to please the "then" crowd.

Hmm, folks. Just saw that he did "Sealed With a Kiss".

I associate Bobby Vinton with polka music too, edgar. I liked the song Mr Lonely, but I'm not sure about his rendition. Roses are Red sounds more like the Bobby Vinton I remember.

Since we seem to be in the mood for love

Don't know why I suddenly remembered this old one. Although this one topped the charts in the U.S., I just read that the band was never fond of the song and it was never released in Britain as a single.

firefly, everyone knows those bands who were a part of The British Invasion. I have a young friend who is a bag boy at the local supermarket. He and I talk all the time. At first, he was very shy, but we chat up a storm now. He seems quite eager to please me with his progress, and believe me, I reinforce that behavior. We exchange ideas on music, and he is quite familiar with The Monkees.

Another thing, folks, many different people have done the same songs, and that gets confusing. That is why I like Diana Krall and Michael Buble. They do the oldies, but goodies.

Here's one that I just found. I don't know this guy at all, so someone else(including Bobby Vinton) must have done it as well.
