I may be wrong, but I believe the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded the original Mr Bojangles. Dylan's version was an out take he didn't intend to release.

I have never seen a video of Little Richard in which Jimi Hendrix's presence was acknowledged.

Bill will always be remembered, edgar.

How about a tribute to Jeanne Crain, y'all.

Wonderland By Night. One great song. Well, my Mom often told me I looked like Claude Akins. Think I'll go look him up.

That was quick.

Well, edgar, as I once told you I met the man and he had the personality of your avatar. Maybe he was ill then, however.

How about a little George Shearing. What a great pianist, and I saw him at The Embers in New York.

The Phoenix lander is safely on Mars. Soon, it will send pics and then will dig to look for the possibility Mars could at one time have sustained life.

My Life On The Moon

Life on the moon
Ain`t really bad
When you`re in love
And feelin` sad

Nowhere on Earth
To run from the blues
No one in space
Bringin` bad news

chorus
My life on the moon
Goes on like a dream
I stay there and pretty soon
Trouble lifts like a moonbeam

Life on the moon
Away from it all
Then like a tune
My lover's call

As down to Earth
I hurry on home
For what it's worth
Our happy home

chorus
My life on the moon
Goes on like a dream
I stay there and pretty soon
Trouble lifts like a moonbeam

Good morning, WA2K audience.

edgar, it's odd I know, but I don't really look at the physical appearance as much as I do the person behind the facade. That's true, Texas, and behind that great man's face in one helluva soul.

I liked the lyrics to "My Life on the Moon" , buddy.

Let's play one for NASA's achievement, then we will observe Memorial Day.

It used to be called Decoration Day and celebrated on May 30th, but somehow that changed, folks.

Here is a tribute, and as the text observes, it is not just about war, but honor.

A day to both be solemn and rejoice, letty. We plan to visit my father in law's grave later today, at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, after the ceremonies are over.

I have lately been dreaming about California. Here are the Mamas and the Papas to help feed my fantasies.

Well, edgar. I'm certain that my family in Virginia will be observing the day in the family cemetery.

Brother, WWII

Dad, WWI

Brother-in-law, WWII

Speaking of Monday, all.

edgar: you got me again. I'm watching that whole Mama's and the Papa's California Dreamin documentary:

These sounds and tight sweet harmonies just makes me smile so much..particulary exemplified in "12:30":

They were my Supergroup and the early loss of Mamma Cass and later John Phillips... was pretty sad.

monday monday
Interesting: "Monday Monday" was written in 25 minutes and everyone except John Phillips, the writer, hated it at first. It sold 180,000 copies the first day it was released.

The chemistry between songs and performers is a mysterious thing to me. Hard to know what will or won't work until it's tried, I suppose.

Some of the members thought it was pretentious..and just didn't "get" it. Lou Adler, their producer, overruled the objectors and said to the ladies "you sing [pretty] and I'll release the records".

Afterwards, they really warmed up ( $$$) to it. But seriously, from their interview in the documentary, truly they weren't in it for the money (they didn't make much from their records). They were that rarity of talent, energy, looks, writing, arranging and voices..that helped crystallize the Baby-boomer youth movement and for much of Age of Aquarius culture. They sure weren't The Monkees (No offense to the Monkees) .

The Monkeys were as you know, a contrived group, that just happened to have the talent to make some good music. I can listen to them, but not unreservedly, the way I do the Mamas and Papas.

Interesting discussion between edgar and Ragman, all.

I have often wondered why some people don't like a song, and why others do.

I, for instance, like Michael Buble, others don't.

I like A Walk in the Black Forest, others don't.

Often, I am a good teacher, but a poor student.

I wanted to find the song about Sally Ride, the first woman astronaut in space, but came up with this one. Don't care for it.

I only like a few by Lou Reed. For me, he's hard to listen to.

Clicking on Letty's links in a second.

True enuf about Monkees. The Monkees had some great and listenable hits ..."Last Train to Clarkesville" IMHO was one of their best. Interesting that Mike Nesmith was the originator/initiator at the beginning of MTV and contributor of the library of 100s of video clips to music. Mike had the staying power and broad talents to stay in the industry after their cute show ended. Nesmith was folk/country/rock oriented..and had some connection with Ricky Nelson/Stone Canyon group (Garden Party) at the latter stage of his career as he became a country/folk performer while that fusion occurred in Calif music industry.
