Diane, Welcome back. I wondered about you and now we all know how being snowbound must feel. I have some memories of the stuff. Smile Sally is adorable and typically dog, right? and would you please tell your cowboy to pop into the studio once in a while to play us a tune. Your song made me recall Aaron Copeland's Grand Canyon Suite and one song from it, The Trail that Follows the Sun, but I couldn't find all the lyrics.

Cyracuz, your news is mind boggling. Folks, can you imagine what this discovery could lead to? A salute to your farmer, my friend!

WA2K radio is up and running and waiting for all our staff and contributors to appear and begin the day.

If they are "immortals" what are they doing in Père Lachaise Cemetery? Laughing

Oh. OK, then. Well, Francis, some you get; some you don't. "What fools we mortals be."

I Love To Laugh

by Unknown
I love to laugh Ha Ha HaHa
Loud and long and clear
I love to laugh
Ho Ho Ho Ho
It's getting worse every year
The more I laugh
Ha Ha Ha Ha
The more I fill with glee
And the more with glee
He He He He
The more I'm a merrier me!

I'll second (third?) that.
But I'll be meeting with some of our Boston folk this evening.
Maybe that will help my attitude.

OK, sorry for introducing this blue note.

This song always cheers me up:

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun shiny day

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I've been prayin' for
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun shiny day

Look all around, there's nothin' but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun shiny day

Good morning, Miss Letty and all! Great story, Diane. I do hope I've not been a source of your boredom with A2K. I'm glad you escaped the snowstorm and made it back to us safely.

Letty, I seem to remember "I Love to Laugh" from the Mary Poppins movie with Dick Van Dyke. They floated on the ceiling from laughing sickness, I believe. I'd love to catch that...wouldn't you?

Wow...the Sahara Savannah. What a thought.

I Love to Laugh from Mary Poppins was sung by Ed Wynn

On that same visit came the famous:

I met a man with a wooden leg named Smith.
What was the name of his other leg?

George, I love that song, and thanks for dropping in and sharing it with us here on WA2K radio. I do hope you have a wonderful get together this evening. Please let us know how it turns out.

Francis, my word! Now that sight of Victor Noir's memorial made me laugh out loud. Unbelievable. At first I thought that you were going to show us brass rubbings. Razz

Eva, so great to see you back in our studios, and as Bob pointed out, that laugh song was indeed from Mary Poppins. No one would ever tire of you, honey.

Bob,I'm still trying to decide what the other leg was called.

Raggedy, Chris is beautiful, isn't he. If we would cover the right side of his face, he would be a ringer for our Francis.

Ah, Pearl Bailey. Need to search out some of her songs. and there's MC Hammer. Wonder if he ever got his mansion back?

Chris as Tarzan (Lord Greystoke) and the Highlander. <sigh>

A2K's portals has the lyrics for three Pearl Bailey songs, Letty. (Ain't She Sweet, Best of Friends and Frankie and Johnny)

Her Beat Out That Rhythm on a Drum from Carmen Jones is a gem. But, I'll always remember seeing her for the first time in a Bob Hope movie, name escapes me, singing "So Tired".

In honor of her birthday today, perhaps we should all post our favorite Pearl Bailey lyrics...?

I remember watching her sing "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey" once on television. I asked my dad if her husband was named Bill. When he reminded me it was a very old song, I laughed and laughed. She had a great sense of humor.

Eva! You, like Letty, are one of those who makes a2k a delight. I'm so sick of people making death a political football. Politics and religion au naturel (sp?) are bad enough and I can only take a little dose at a time, but the Terri Schiavo case has gone beyond all bounds of decency. It is a perversion that seems all too normal for our deteriorating political climate.

The people on this thread and a few others make a2k something to look forward to everyday.

On the trip, I was only able to take a few photos before something went wrong with the camera. Dys is struggling to figure out what might have happened to it. <Honest, it only dropped once>

Here is one a little past Wagon Mound on the way to Raton Pass.

I agree, Diane. The Terri Schiavo case has DEFINITELY gone beyond all bounds of human decency. That's why I'm not discussing it here. Okay, I'll make one exception. I feel so, so sad for Michael Schiavo and everything he's having to put up with. There, I'm done.

Now, come on over to the Wine Cellar and I'll buy you a drink. Okay? No talk of death or politics there, I promise.

About Pearl:
Way back in the day, I saw Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway in "Hello Dolly!"
That lady would OWN the stage.

er, Raggedy. Better make that the left side of the Francis face. oops! I don't remember Pearl in Carmen at all.

Desolate, Diane, but totally beautiful was that photo. There is something about sweeping and sepia plains that I truly love.

For Pearl:

One dark and stormy night,
The rain was fallin' fast,
The lady love of old Bill Bailey,
Was ahangin' clothes on her line,
In her back yard,
And weepin' hard.

She'd married a B&O brakeman,
That took and throwed her down.
Bellerin' like a prune face calf
With a big gang hangin' round,
And to that crowd.
She yelled out loud.

Won't you come home Bill Bailey,
Won't you come home.
I moans the whole night long.
I'll do the cookin' darlin',
I'll pay the rent.
I knows I done you wrong.
'member that rainy evenin',
I throwed you out,
With nothin' but a fine tooth comb.
I know I's to blame,
Well ain't that a shame,
Bill Bailey won't you please come home.

And here was Bill's song which predates Bill Bailey:

Ain't that a shame,
A measly shame,
To throw your honey,
Out in the rain,
(oh, Lordy have a little pity)
Won't you open that door,
And let me in.
I stand here freezin',
Right wet to the skin.

And my daddy taught me that one, folks.

Bill Bailey was a real swingin' tune.
