Well, Letty, I'm a bit of a hit-and-run listener but I certainly enjoyed Jane Monheit -- wow!

(And I can't wait for spring! Finally the snow is starting to melt here but "they're" calling for another storm...)

Good morning, WA2K contributors and listeners.

By way of explanation for our edgar. What I have tried to do here is to maintain the format of a real radio station. FM is the channel that goes with the flow, Texas. AM is the feedback type.

Tai, I have the perfect classical music for you this early morning, but first a comment about edgar's songs.

I listened to Damon, and was expecting to see his tongue in his cheek, but no such thing occurred. Bobby Darin, of course, is always a treat and his message of peace has been broadcast by many for a long time.

Thanks, buddy.

Sometimes, folks, I miss the four seasons, but I do NOT miss driving on winter roads.

Today is Vivaldi's birthday, so let's listen to his interpretation.

Good day, WA2K.

Remembering John Garfield on his day

and wishng a Happy 76th to South African singer Miriam Makeba:

I believe Wikipedia has the longest list of birthdays I've seen to date, and I must admit I don't recognize half, if that many, of the names listed.

Here are Miriam and Paul Simon in concert:

Hey, Raggedy. Strange that this ended up in bulk. No wonder, PA. The poor hawkman's wings could not possible carry that burden. Razz

Ah, my older sister was in love with John Garfield.

That video was fantastic, puppy, and whatever Miriam did at the end was odd but fascinating. It was rather like scat vocalizing with her breath.

Hey, folks, this next song is inspired by hamburger's picture of the bi-plane.

Indeed he was, edgar, but I always felt bad for Charlie Brown.

dj started the trend, and my Irish friend Mikey sent me these lovely songs, so we will dedicated these to smokingun, Imur, O'George, Setanta, and any other of the shamrock ilk, folks.

Funny song, edgar, and Harry and Miriam were tremendous. Thanks, for the listen, Texas.

Someone, cannot remember who, played a song by young Clint Eastwood, and it reminded me of this theme song to The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. I think it is supposed to reflect the screams of those who fell from grace. Razz

That is a startling bit of music, even these many years after. The same guy composed other films in ways that were quiet and subtle, which makes me admire his versatility.

Spaghetti westerns, edgar. Clint made a big comeback in that genre of films.

Many spaghetti westerns are boring, but I do love the Good the Bad and the Ugly. Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More are pretty good for one time around, but I've watched Good Bad Ugly a number of times.

I know exactly what you mean, edgar. I thought Hank Williams was terrible, and as a singer, he was a better poet. Tried to listen to Johnny Cash and Bob dylan do "I'm so Lonesome I could Cry". Awful. They were both on something, methinks.

Never liked Elvis either, but he did a wonderful job with Hank's sad song.

THE MAN FROM NOVA SCOTIA

Quote:
Snow was born in Brooklyn, Queens County, Nova Scotia, Canada. When he was 14, he ordered his first guitar from Eaton's catalogue for $5.95, and played his first show in a church basement in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia at the age of 16. He then travelled to the nearest big city, Halifax, where he sang in local clubs and bars. A successful appearance on a local radio station led to his being given a chance to audition for RCA Victor in Montreal, Quebec. In 1936, he signed with RCA Victor, staying with them for more than 45 years.

Ah, hbg, I love the Singing Ranger, and especially that song. Thanks, buddy.

Well, time for me to retire, folks, but I do hope our big island man and our down under Dutchy will drop by.

Think I will say goodnight with some Bill Evans jazz, and we'll dedicate this to Craven who used to live there.

How did you know I was going to drop by Letty? Must tell you a little story before I play you the next song. This week we're going through another hot spell with the temperature climbing above the 100 degree mark daily, and note this is Autumn (Fall I think you say in the US).Inland she hit anywhere between 110 and 120 degrees. Some years ago I travelled through the Australian outback in such temperatures and was looking forward to a cold beer at the Birdsville pub, a watering hole in the never never of Australia. When I finally made it late in the afternoon, I shall never forget it, there was a sign on the door stating "NO BEER". The following song always reminds me of this incident, it is sung by one of Ausralia's greatest Country and Western singers "Slim Dusty", sadly he passed away not solong ago, leaving a legacy of over 1000 recorded songs. Without further ado, here he is.
