Walter, If I'm not mistaken, Kennedy didn't quite get this quote right:

You are mistaken: that was totally correct.

(No-one really would think, he'd said "I am a doughnut" - same as with Francfort/Francforter, Hamburg/Hamburger Laughing )

Bob, Yes? Yes to what, honey? Razz

Let's see now. I am a Berliner; I am a Pariser; I am what I am?

I'm a little teapot,
Short and stout,
Here is my handle,
Here is my spout.

When I get all steamed up,
Then I shout,
Just tip me over and pour me out.

Wow! listeners and staff. What a potpourri are we.

Hey, listeners. How does one say BRAT in German, French, Texan, and Bostonian? I know how it's said in Virginiaese and Floridian.

an interlude of music, listeners:

1. Vor der Kaserne
Vor dem großen Tor
Stand eine Laterne
Und steht sie noch davor
So woll'n wir uns da wieder seh'n
Bei der Laterne wollen wir steh'n
Wie einst Lili Marleen. Wie einst Lili Marleen

2. Unsere beide Schatten
Sah'n wie einer aus
Daß wir so lieb uns hatten
Das sah man gleich daraus
Und alle Leute soll'n es seh'n
Wenn wir bei der Laterne steh'n
Wie einst Lili Marleen. Wie einst Lili Marleen.

3. Deine Schritte kennt sie,
Deinen zieren Gang
Alle Abend brennt sie,
Doch mich vergaß sie lang
Und sollte mir ein Leids gescheh'n
Wer wird bei der Laterne stehen
Mit dir Lili Marleen? Mit dir Lili Marleen?

4. Aus dem stillen Raume,
Aus der Erde Grund
Hebt mich wie im Traume
Dein verliebter Mund
Wenn sich die späten Nebel drehn
Werd' ich bei der Laterne steh'n
Mit dir Lili Marleen? Mit dir Lili Marleen?

The melody to that song is lovely and haunting.

White Room - Cream

[Written By Jack Bruce and Pete Brown]

In the white room with black curtains near the station
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes
Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment

I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves

You said no strings could secure you at the station
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows
I walked into such a sad time at the station
As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning

I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back
Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves

At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd
Consolation for the old wound now forgotten
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes
She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings

I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd
Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves

edgar, those lyrics were haunting.

As the darkness lies quietly on the land,
I think of those in foreign strand,
Who see to think and in that thought,
Arrive too late with eyes of naught.

WA2K's person of the week:

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Amid the pitched legal battle over Terri Schiavo that has been fought through his court, Pinellas County Circuit Judge George Greer has been under the protection of armed guards, and friends say his family also is protected.

Death threats have been made against him for allowing Michael Schiavo to remove the feeding tube that has kept his 41-year-old wife alive for the past 15 years, and the Southern Baptist church that Greer belonged to for years has asked him to leave the congregation.

Greer - a conservative Christian and longtime Republican known for an easy manner - has become the public face of the judiciary in this internationally watched fight. But despite the mounting pressure, he has been steadfast in his rulings that Terri Schiavo is in a persistent vegetative state and did not want to be kept alive artificially.

"There are very few people who have shown the will to stand up to raw power," said Stetson University Law Professor Michael Allen, who has studied the Schiavo case. "He's one."<sic>

"This is simply a case of people not liking this decision, and the fact that a judge is standing up to this is quite important," Allen added.

On Saturday, Greer rejected arguments by Terri Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, that their daughter tried to say "I want to live" before her feeding tube was removed March 18. They argued that she said "AHHHHH" and "WAAAAAAA" when asked to repeat the phrase.

Back later ,folks, to think about the right time of night.

The sun was going down behind a tattooed tree
And the simple act of an oar's stroke put diamonds in the sea
And all because of the phosphorus there in quantity
As I dug you diggin' me in Mexico.
There in the valley of Scorpio, beneath the cross of jade
Smoking on the seashell pipe the gypsies had made
We sat and we dreamed a while of smugglers bringing wine
In that crystal thought time in Mexico.
Sitting in a chair of bamboo, sipping grenadine,
Straining my eyes for a surfacing submarine.
Kingdoms of ants walk across my feet,
I'm a-shakin' in my seat in Mexico.
Grasshoppers creaking in the velvet jungle night,
Microscopic circles in the fluid of my sight,
Watching a black-eyed native girl cut and trim the lamp,
Valentino vamp in Mexico.
The sun was going down behind a tattooed tree
And the simple act of an oar's stroke put diamonds in the sea
And all because of the phosphorus there in quantity
I dug you diggin' me in Mexico.

Goodnight Letty. Love ya, Babe. Well folks I have to admit I left you for awhile to watch The Bandwagon on TCM. This is one of my favorite musicals. I understand it's repeating tomorrow night for those interested. From that show a fun tune "Triplets".

Triplets

From the MGM Picture "The Band Wagon"
Music by Arthur Schwartz; Lyric by Howard Dietz
Performed by Nanette Fabray, Fred Astaire and Jack Buchanan

Three little unexpected children
Simultaneously the doctor brought us in
you can see we'll be three forever and
A E I O You wouldn't know how agonising being triple can be
Each one is individually the victim of the clinical day (?)
E I O Every summer we go away to Baden Baden Baden
Every winter we come back home to Walla Walla Walla

We do everything alike
We look alike
We dress alike
We walk alike
We talk alike
and what is more we hate each other very much
We hate our folks
We're sick of jokes on what an art it is to tell us apart!

If one of us gets the measles
another one gets the measles
then all of us gets the measles
and mumps and grippe

How I wish I had a gun
A 'widdle' gun
It would be fun to shoot the other two and be only one!

Mrs Whifflepoofer loves to talk to Mrs Hildendorfer on the fatal natal day she had her silly Willy
Mrs Hasslepoofer loves to talk to Mrs Goldenwasser of her major operation when she had her twins
But when Mother comes along she silences the others
She accomplished something that is very rarely mothers

MGM has got a leo but Mama has got a trio
she is proud and says three is a crowd

We do everything alike
We look alike
We dress alike
We walk alike
We talk alike
and what is more we hate each other very much
We hate our folks
We're sick of jokes on what an art it is to tell us apart!

We eat the same kind of vittles
We drink the same kind of bottles
We sit in the same kind of high chair
high chair! high chair!

How I wish I had a gun
A 'widdle' gun
It would be fun to shoot the other two and be only one!

Hope you enjoyed that one. With your permission I'll hog the mike for one more. After all, that's entertainment.

That's Entertainment!

From the MGM Picture "The Band Wagon"
Music by Arthur Schwartz; Lyric by Howard Dietz
Performed by Jack Buchanan, Nanette Fabray, Oscar Levant, Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse (dubbed by India Adams) and chorus.

Everything that happens in life
can happen in a show
You can make 'em laugh
You can make 'em cry
Anything, anything can go

The clown with his pants falling down
Or the dance that's a dream of romance
Or the scene where the villain is mean
That's Entertainment!

The lights on the lady in tights
Or the bride with the guy on the side
Or the ball where she gives him her all
That's Entertainment!

The plot can be hot simply teeming with sex
A gay divorcee who is after her ex
It could be Oedipus Rex
where a chap kills his father and causes a lot of bother

The clerk who is thrown out of work
by the boss who is thrown for a loss
by the skirt who is doing him dirt
The world is a stage
the stage of a world of entertainment!

(bridge)

The doubt while the jury is out
or the thrill when they're reading the will
or the chase for the man with the face
That's Entertainment!

The dame who is known as the flame
of the king of an underworld ring
he's an ape who won't let her escape
That's Entertainment!

It might be a fight like you see on the screen
a swain getting slain for the love of a queen
some great Shakespearean scene
where a ghost and a prince meet
and everyone ends in mincemeat

the gag may be waving that flag
that began with a Mr Cohan
Hip hooray- the American way
The world is a stage
the stage of a world of entertainment!

Reprise:

A show that is really a show
Sends you out with a kind of a glow
And you say as you go on your way
That Entertainment!

A song that is winging along
or a dance with a touch of romance
is the art that appeals to the heart
That's Entertainment!

Admit we're a hit and we'll go from there
We played a charade that was lighter than air
a good old fashioned affair
as we sing this finale
we hope it was up your alley

No death like you get in Macbeth
No ordeal like the end of Camile
This goodbye brings a tear to the eye
The world is a stage
the stage of a world of entertainment!

Good Cajun lyrics there, Jambalaya, I remember Fats Domino singing that one.

I have been to Edinburgh, we stayed two nights, came back Friday. The theatricals were great, very entertaining. It was a "showcase" by the college final year students, so there were about twenty separate scenes from as many different plays. Almost like "edited highlights". It worked very well.
The hotel was good, weather was sunny, restaurants and bistros were good, so all-in-all we felt very lucky and well satisfied with our visit.
Now our son and his girlfriend are here and will leave today at midday on the train for London, where the show is to be put on again.
Byee, later

Good morning WA2K audience.

edgar, one line in your song leapt off the page, and that was:
diggin you, diggin me. It is the hip way of saying, "loving you; loving me".

Bob, Wow! I had forgotten the song "That's Entertainment." I just did a replay in my head and put the music to the words. (clever words, incidentally)

McTag, I love the expression "edited highlights". It sounds as though you and Mrs. McTag had a wonderful jaunt, not to mention that your son was among the heightened light. <smile>

We are a part of all we have met, right?

Word for today:

That's Entertainment
The Jam.

A police car and a screaming siren -
A pneumatic drill and ripped up concrete -
A baby wailing and stray dog howling -
The screech of brakes and lamp light blinking -

That's Entertainment.

A smash of glass and a rumble of boots -
An electric train and a ripped up 'phone booth -
Paint splattered walls and the cry of a tomcat -
Lights going out and a kick in the balls -

That's Entertainment.

Days of speed and slow time Mondays -
Pissing down with rain on a boring Wednesday -
Watching the news and not eating your tea -
A freezing cold flat and damp on the walls -

That's Entertainment.

Waking up at 6 a.m. on a cool warm morning -
Opening the windows and breathing in petrol -
An amateur band rehearsing in a nearby yard -
Watching the tele and thinking about your holidays -

That's Entertainment.

Waking up from bad dreams and smoking cigarettes -
Cuddling a warm girl and smelling stale perfume -
A hot summer's day and sticky black tarmac -
Fedding ducks in the park and wishing you were far away -

That's Entertainment.

Two lovers kissing amongst the scream of midnight -
Two lovers missing the tranquility of solitude -
Getting a cab and travelling on buses -
Reading the graffiti about slashed seat affairs -

That's Entertainment.

Paul Weller, 1980

dj, What a perfect foil to Bob's song, right listeners? Since this is Easter Sunday, I believe the FCC is on holiday.

Truly, dj. I went over those lyrics twice and realized that life is comprised of so many optic and auditory interpretations, that it is important to internalize them both.

Incidentally, listeners. Today is the day of all days in the Christian world, but actually, it is the renewal of all things that slumbered in the cold, and awoke to the light, a spring rite, and a believer's right.

Don'tTreadOnMe, created a Happy Easter thread and it was a positive gesture for this entire forum. Remember, it's not the realm of our observances that make the heart light, it's the implication behind the creation.
