and since we are SMOKING on the picture thread :

here is PINK FLOYD

Quote:
Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar. youre gonna go far, fly high,
Youre never gonna die, youre gonna make it if you try;theyre gonna love you.
Well Ive always had a deep respect, and I mean that most sincerely.
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think. oh by the way,
Which ones pink?
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy, we call it riding the
Gravy train.

Were just knocked out. we heard about the sell out. you gotta get an
Album out,
You owe it to the people. were so happy we can hardly count.
Everybody else is just green, have you seen the chart?
Its a helluva start, it could be made into a monster if we all pull together
As a team.
And did we tell you the name of the game, boy, we call it riding the
Gravy train
.

BOSS , HAVE A CIGAR , I'VE GOT SOME NEWS !

Ticomaya will love that, hbg. He's a Floyd fan. Razz

Well, listeners, this is not exactly my cup of tea, but it says a lot about the mafia. The Italians were at the bottom of the barrel in the new immigration period in America. The "family" may have been the result.

Just for a slight change of pace, here's a bit of Saturday Night Fever.

(Although it's Sunday night hereabouts ... and a cool 8º F.)

My Gawd, Debacle. What a delightful treat. You know, buddy, a lot of folks still jitterbug.

Well, listeners, I recall seeing a movie not too long ago called The Swing Kids. It was based on a true story of a group of young dancers who listened to America's swing songs during the Nazi era.

Love this one, y'all

Glad you enjoyed the Bowery Boys, Letty. I never failed to fork over 25¢ whenever they were on at the Saturday matinee.

(Yeah, that's right, I'm older'n dirt?!!)

I stumbled across a You Tuber named Billy Joel. Seems the dude likes his own stuff a lot.

I do, too. And so it goes.

edgar, I think I have mentioned that Old Shep is the song we sang to make ourselves feel sad. Kids can be crazy sometimes, right?

Ah, Debacle, I prefer to think of us as "rare old wine". Love Billy Joel and that song was wonderful. I also love his "I love you just the way you are."

Well, folks, we've felt sad; we felt pensive; and I think it's time to feel some joy. I need it tonight, and it is Sunday, so...

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee,
Opening to their sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness,
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day.

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heaven reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise:
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Blooming meadow, flashing sea,
Chanting bird and flowing fountain, Call us to rejoice in Thee.

Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest,
Well-spring of the joy of living,
Ocean-depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
All who live in love are Thine:
Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the Joy Divine.

Mortals join the mighty chorus, which the morning stars began;
Father-love is reigning o'er us,
Brother-love binds man to man.
Ever singing marching onward, Victors in the midst of strife;
Joyful music lifts us sunward In the triumph song of life.

Leonard says it best, I think, and this will be my goodnight song.

The Highwaymen

Doing the Pilgrim

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxhjoJUdZ4I

The Pilgrim

See him wasted on the sidewalk in his jacket and his jeans,
Wearin' yesterday's misfortunes like a smile
Once he had a future full of money, love, and dreams,
Which he spent like they was goin' outa style
And he keeps right on a'changin' for the better or the worse,
Searchin' for a shrine he's never found
Never knowin' if believin' is a blessin' or a curse,
Or if the goin' up was worth the comin' down

CHORUS:
He's a poet, he's a picker
He's a prophet, he's a pusher
He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned
He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,
Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.

He has tasted good and evil in your bedrooms and your bars,
And he's traded in tomorrow for today
Runnin' from his devils, Lord, and reachin' for the stars,
And losin' all he's loved along the way
But if this world keeps right on turnin' for the better or the worse,
And all he ever gets is older and around
From the rockin' of the cradle to the rollin' of the hearse,
The goin' up was worth the comin' down

CHORUS:
He's a poet, he's a picker
He's a prophet, he's a pusher
He's a pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he's stoned
He's a walkin' contradiction, partly truth and partly fiction,
Takin' ev'ry wrong direction on his lonely way back home.
There's a lotta wrong directions on that lonely way back home.

Well, today is Billy Ocean's birthday. Let's hear one by him.

She dashed by me in painted on jeans
And all the heads turned beacuse she was the queen
In the blink of an eye I knew her number and her name yeah
And she said I was the tiger she wanted to tame

Caribbean Queen
Now we're sharing the same dream
And our hearts they beat as one
No more love on the run

I lose my cool when she steps in the room
And I get so exited just from her perfume
Electric eyes that you can't ignore
And passion burns you like never before

I was in search of a good time
Just running my game
Love was the furthest
Furthest from my mind

Caribbean Queen
Now we're sharing the same dream
And our hearts they beat as one
No more love on the run

I once saw an advert, (English, I think it was) for painted on jeans. Not really, but the young lady's jeans were tight enough to have been her au naturel fabric. Anyway, the commercial was banned, so that's that.

Here's an unexpected song.

Ah, Debacle, we all love Andrew-Llloyd Webber, buddy and Bernadette did it in such an expected way. Thank you, my friend

edgar, Brook has always been one of my favorite singers. Love that song as well.

Here is an unexpected jazz singer doing a great jazz tune, folks, and it will be my goodnight melody.

You
Stepped out of a dream,
You are too wonderful
To be what you seem

Could there be eyes like yours?
Could there be lips like yours?
Could there be smiles like yours,
Honest and truly?

You
Stepped out of a cloud,
I want to take you away
Away from the crowd,

And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart.
Out of a dream
Safe into my heart.

~interlude~

You
Stepped out of a cloud,
I want to take you away
Away from the crowd,
And have you all to myself,
Alone and apart.
Out of a dream,
Safe into my heart...
Wa-dee-la-la
Out of a dream!

This offering features two songs by Roy Hamilton. He doesn't get much play anymore, but, I have always enjoyed his recordings.

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, What a fantastic voice Roy Hamilton possesses. Amazing his range and depth. Really enjoyed both those songs, Texas.

What a variegated mind for music we have, y'all. Woke up this morning with "The Bells of Moscow" ringing in my head.

Today is Sam Cooke's birthday, and I found this funny song by him, so let's listen.

ah, edgar, my older sister loved Johnny, and Texas,
when I was a kid I used to love walking in the rain.

Incidentally, edgar and all, here are the "Bells" of which I spoke. Very, very powerful.
