You know kids, I wish every mom
and dad would make a speech to their
teenagers and say kids, be free,
be whatever you are, do whatever you
want to do, just so long as you don't hurt anybody.
And remember kids,
I am your friend.
I would just like to say that it is my conviction
That longer hair and other flamboyant affectations
Of appearance are nothing more
Than the male's emergence from his drab camoflage
Into the gaudy plumage
Which is the birthright of his sex
There is a peculiar notion that elegant plumage
And fine feathers are not proper for the male
When ac---tually
That is the way things are
In most species

edgar, that is excellent! Great advice for all of us, listeners. Our audience would like to know the writer/singer.
For some reason, I have an urge to spin a little Croce tonight, folks. I have always thought that the only thing we truly own are our birthdays and our names:
Jim Croce
I Got A Name
by Unknown
Like the pine trees lining the winding roads
I've got a name, I've got a name
Like a singin' bird and a croakin' toad
I've got a name, I've got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm livin' the dream that he kept hid
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Like the North wind whistlin' down the sky
I've got a song, I've got a song
Like the welcome wail and the babies' cry
I've got a song, I've got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I got there proud
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
And I'm gonna go there free...
Life the fool I am and I'll always be
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I've got a dream, I've got a dream
And I know I can share it if you want me to
If you're goin' my way, I'll go with you
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by
Movin' me down the highway, rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by.
I will always love this tune, listeners as it reminds me so much of my friend Dan, who was Mexican-American.

a lil touch of CCR for the evening
Long as I remember the rain been comin' down.
Clouds of myst'ry pourin' confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, tryin' to find the sun;
And I wonder, still I wonder, who'll stop the rain.
I went down virginia, seekin' shelter from the storm.
Caught up in the fable, I watched the tower grow.
Five year plans and new deals, wrapped in golden chains.
And I wonder, still I wonder who'll stop the rain.
Heard the singers playin', how we cheered for more.
The crowd had rushed together, tryin' to keep warm.
Still the rain kept pourin', fallin' on my ears.
And I wonder, still I wonder who'll stop the rain.

Letty, that was from the play HAIR.
Phil
By Tom Paxton
I opened the paper, there was your picture
Gone, gone, gone by your own hand
I couldn't believe it, the paper was shakin'
Gone, gone, gone by your own hand
I know I'm gonna spend the rest of my lifetime wondering why
You found yourself so badly hurt you had to die
I opened the paper, there was your picture
Gone, gone, gone by your own hand
The phone started ringing, had I heard about it?
I shook every time I heard it ring
What was my reaction? I put the phone down
That was the only news that was fit to sing
They ask about Dylan, about MacDougal Street and Third
Question piled on question and each question more absurd
I opened the paper, there was your picture
Gone, gone, gone by your own hand
**
Oh, I remember "There But For Fortune",
There but for fortune you and I would go
Fortune turned its back on you,
Or so it must have seemed to you,
Christ alone knows what was the final blow
The last time I saw you, the last time I saw you,
Bleeker Street outside the Other End
I told you I'd see you, I got distracted
I never saw your face again
I heard that you were feeling stronger every day
I heard that you were well with good things on their way
Then I opened the paper, there was your picture
Gone, gone, gone by your own hand.

my favourite jim croce song
Lover's Cross
Jim Croce
Guess that it was bound to happen
Was just a matter of time
But now I've come to my decision
And it's a-one of the painful kind
'Cause now it seems that you wanted a martyr
Just a regular guy wouldn't do
But baby I can't hang upon no lover's cross for you
You really got to hand it to ya
'Cause girl you really tried
But for every time that we spent laughin'
There were two times that I cried
And you were tryin' to make me your martyr
And that's the one thing I just couldn't do
'Cause baby, I can't hang upon no lover's cross for you
'Cause tables are meant for turnin'
And people are bound to change
And bridges are meant for burnin'
When the people and memories they join aren't the same
Still I hope that you can find
Another who can take what I could not
He'll have to be a super guy
Or maybe a super god
'Cause I never was much of a martyr before
And I ain't bout to start nothin' new
And baby, I can't hang upon no lover's cross for you

and from the "just because i can" file, some laurie anderson
william s burroughs preforms the second song
Sharkey's Day
Laurie Anderson
Sun's coming up. Like a big bald head.
Poking up over the grocery store.
It's Sharkey's day.
It's Sharkey's day today.
Sharkey wakes up and Sharkey says:
There was this man... And there was this road...And if only I could remember these dreams... I know they're trying to tell me...something. Ooooeee. Strange dreams.(Strange dreams). Oh yeah. And Sharkey says:
I turn around, it's fear. I turn around again And it's love. Oh yeah. Strange dreams. And the little girls sing:
Oooee Sharkey. And the manager says:
Mr. Sharkey? He's not at his desk right now. Could I take a message? And the little girls sing:
Oooeee Sharkey. He's Mister Heartbreak. They sing: Oooeee Sharkey. Yeah. He's Mister Heartbreak. And Sharkey says:
All of nature talks to me. If I could just figure out what it was trying to tell me. Listen! Trees are swinging in the breeze. They're talking to me. Insects are rubbing their legs together. They're all talking. They're talking to me. And short animals- They're bucking up on their hind legs. Talking.
Talking to me. Hey! Look out! Bugs are crawling up my legs! You know? I'd rather see this on TV. Tones it down. And Sharkey says:
I turn around, it's fear. I turn around again, and it's love. Nobody knows me. Nobody knows my name. And Sharkey says:
All night long I think of those little planes up there. Flying around. You can't even see them. They're specks! And they're full of tiny people. Going places. And Sharkey says: You know? I bet they could all land on the head of a pin. And the little girls sing: Ooooeee. Sharkey! He's Mister Heartbreak. They sing:
Oooeee. That Sharkey! He's a slow dance on the edge of the lake. He's a whole landscape gone to seed. He's gone wild! He's screeching tires on an oil slick at midnight on the road to Boston a long time ago. And Sharkey says:
Lights! Camera! Action! TIMBER! At the beginning of the movie, they know they have to find each other. But they ride off in opposite directions. Sharkey says: I turn around, it's fear. I turn around again, and it's love. Nobody knows me. Nobody knows my name. You know? They're growing mechanical trees. They grow to their full height. And then they chop themselves down. Sharkey says: All of life comes from some strange lagoon. It rises up, it bucks up to it's full height from a boggy swamp on a foggy night. It creeps into your house. It's life! It's life! I turn around, it's fear. I turn around again, and it's love. Nobody knows me. Nobody knows my name.
Deep in the heart of darkest America. Home of the brave. Ha! Ha! Ha! You've already paid for this. Listen to my heart beat. And the little girls sing:
Oooeee Sharkey. He's a slow dance on the edge of the lake. They sing:Ooooeeee. Sharkey. He's Mister Heartbreak.
Paging Mr. Sharkey. White courtesy telephone please. And Sharkey says:
I turn around, it's fear. I turn around again, and it's love. And the little girls sing:
Ooooeee Sharkey. Yeah.
On top of Old Smokey all covered with snow. That's where I wanna, that's where I'm gonna That's where I'm gonna go.
Sharkey's Night
Laurie Anderson
Sun's going down. Like a big bald head. Disappearing behind the boulevard. (Oooeee.)
It's Sharkey's night. Yeah. It's Sharkey's night tonight. And the manager says:
Sharkey? He's not at his desk right now. (Oh yeah.) Could I take a message? And Sharkey says:
Hey, Kowasabe! Long time no see. He says:
Hey sport. You connect the dots. You pick up the pieces. He says:
You know, I can see two tiny pictures of myself And there's one in each of you eyes. And they're doin' everything I do. Every time I light a cigarette, they light up theirs. I take a drink and I look in and they're drinkin' too. It's drivin' me crazy. It's drivin' me nuts. And Sharkey says:
Deep in the heart of darkest America. Home of the brave. He says: Listen to my heart beat.
Paging Mr. Sharkey. White courtesy telephone please.

dj, I like that one, too. I like all of Croce's music.

Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
(J.C. Fogerty)
Someone told me long ago
There's a calm before the storm
I know
It's been coming for some time
When it's over so they say
It'll rain on a sunny day
I know
Shining down like water
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
Coming down on a sunny day
Yesterday and days before
Sun is cold and rain is hard
I know
It's been that way for all my time
Till forever on it goes
Through the circle fast and slow
I know
And it can't stop I wonder
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?
I wanna know
Have you ever seen the rain?

Wow! I just heard the biggest clap of thunder. I better get off this machine, but I would like to send you all this fantastic poem by Leigh Hunt:
King Francis was a hearty king, and loved a royal sport,
And one day, as his lions fought, sat looking on the court.
The nobles filled the benches, with the ladies in their pride,
And 'mongst them sat the Count de Lorge, with one for whom he signed:
And truly 'twas a gallant thing to see that crowning show,
Valor and love, and a king above, and the royal beasts below.
Ramped and roared the lions, with horrid laughing jaws;
They bit, they glared, gave blows like beams, a wind went with their paws;
With wallowing might and stifled roar they rolled on one another,
Till all the pit with sand and mane was in a thunderous smother;
The bloody foam above the bars came whisking through the air;
Said Francis then, "Faith, gentlemen, we're better here than there."
De Lorge's love o'er heard the King, a beauteous lively dame,
With smiling lips and sharp bright eyes, which always seemed the same;
She thought, The Count my lover is brave as brave can be;
He surely would do wondrous things to show his love of me;
King, ladies, lovers, all look on; the occasion is divine;
I'll drop my glove, to prove his love; great glory will be mine.
She dropped her glove, to prove his love, then looked at him and smiled;
He bowed, and in a moment leaped among the lions wild:
The leap was quick, return was quick, he has regained his place,
Then threw the glove, but not with love, right in the lady's face.
"By Heaven," said Francis, "rightly done!" and he rose from where he sat;
"No love," quoth he, "but vanity, sets love a task like that."
Goodnight, my friends. Tomorrow for certain.

Three King Fishers - by Donovan
Twelve king fisher birds shall you have
Dive and swim in the ripples of your laugh.
Oh, I dreamed you were a Jewel
Sitting on golden crown oh my head, my head, my head.
Look at the tiny oceans in-my hand
Waves of liquid colours touch the sand.
Oh, I dreamed you were a jewel
Sitting on golden crown on my head, my head, my head.

Letty: "That was from The Old Fashioned Gospel Hour that my mom listened to on old fashioned radio. "
Do you mean the wireless? Back then, we always called it the wireless.
I suppose that came from "wireless telegraph" or something.
And, we called an airport an aerodrome. Anyone else do that?
Some of the comments above made me feel like in the film "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" especially the gospelly bits- Down To The River To Pray sung with high girly voices...that was a nice song.
"I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow" sung in bluegrass style, very nice. Foggy Mountain Boys, if I'm not mistaken.
Yeeeee-Ha! I'll go hitch up my mule

Letty my love--this is for you.
Jim Croce
I'll Have To Say I Love You In a Song
Written by - Jim Croce
From - I Got a Name
Well, I know it's kind of late
I hope I didn't wake you
But what I got to say can't wait
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song
Yeah, I know it's kind of strange
But ev'ry time I'm near you
I just run out of things to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song
Ev'ry time the time was right
All the words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song
Yeah, I know it's kind of late
I hope I didn't wake you
But there's something that I just got to say
I know you'd understand
Ev'ry time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I'll have to say I love you in a song

Good morning, WA2K radio. Wild weather here in Florida and typically spring, so we may have periodic black outs from my little corner.
McTag, It simply awes me that your mom listened to the same program that my mom did. I can't recall if they called it a wireless or not, however.
O Brother Where Art Thou is one of the most delightful movies that I have ever watched, and yes, gospel and bluegrass. The entire sound track of that movie was fantastic, and I have never seen a better synch job than George Clooney doing "Man of Constant Sorrow". The parallel between that and The odyssey eluded me in some respects though. Perhaps that is because the Coen Bros. never read Homer's creation.
edgar, I enjoyed reading the words to "Three King Fishers". I need to check out Donovan.
dj, I loved Sparky's Day and the metaphor citing the sun and a bald head was really superb. Also, my friend. Thanks for the lyrics to "Have you Ever Seen the Rain". Osso and I are experiencing that very precip.
Bob, What a dear dedication. I really, really like that Croce song. Thank you for that, honey.
Listeners, doesn't it seem strange that so many artists have been killed in plane crashes?
Back later, all, with more items of interest and music to fit the mood.

edgar, yes, automobile accidents are often as dangerous as a loaded gun. It seems to me, listeners, that research has been done on teens that indicate a malfunction in the brain that makes many risk takers, especially in suv's. Can't verify that, however.
Raggedy, thanks again for your special update on celeb birthdays. I am only familiar with around three in your line up.
My word, WA2K radio audience. Here's a strange news item:
'Easter Bunny' Arrested for Harassment
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - The bunny trail led to trouble for a mall Easter Bunny who got upset at a co-worker, police said.
Michael J. Desantiago Sr., 36, of Council Bluffs, was arrested Saturday at the Mall of the Bluffs where he had a job dressed as the Easter Bunny. He told officers he became upset when someone threw water and other items at him, police said.
Desantiago left the area, changed clothes and came back to tell a fellow employee he was leaving. The employee told police that Desantiago ``got up in her face and started to yell at her.''
Desantiago threatened another person if he didn't get out of his way, police said.
He was charged with two counts of harassment.
Wonder if the tooth fairy has a record?
For some reason, fans. I have Leigh Hunt on my mind. This delightful poem is one of my favorites:
"Jenny Kissed Me"
Jenny kiss'd me when we met,
Jumping from the chair she sat in;
Time, you thief, who love to get
Sweets into your list, put that in!
Say I'm weary, say I'm sad,
Say that health and wealth have miss'd me,
Say I'm growing old, but add,
Jenny kiss'd me.
-- By Leigh Hunt.
Back later with moods and music from all over the planet.

What happened? DJ fall asleep? Well, ok -- I'll fill in. Let's go back to Casablanca and ask Dooley Wilson to sing it again.
"As Time Goes By"
music and words by Herman Hupfeld
This day and age we're living in
Gives cause for apprehension
With speed and new invention
And things like fourth dimension.
Yet we get a trifle weary
With Mr. Einstein's theory.
So we must get down to earth at times
Relax relieve the tension
And no matter what the progress
Or what may yet be proved
The simple facts of life are such
They cannot be removed.]
You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.
And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date.
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate.
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny.
It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.
Oh yes, the world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.

It's about time, Bob? Love it, though. Thanks for getting WA2K back on the air. Sooooo, here we go---------
Chicago's Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is- lyrics
As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah
And I said
Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry
And I was walking down the street one day
A pretty lady looked at me and said her diamond watch had stopped cold dead
And I said
Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to cry
And I was walking down the street one day
Being pushed and shoved by people trying to beat the clock, oh, no I just don't know
I don't know
And I said, yes I said
Background:
People runnin' everywhere
Don't know where to go
Don't know where I am
Can't see past the next step
Don't have time to think past the last mile
Have no time to look around
Just run around, run around and think why
Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care
If so I can't imagine why
We've all got time enough to die.
Odd rhythme, that.

Hmmmmm. Place sure looks empty. (listens to echo) Wonder where everyone went. (shakes head, hears rattle inside) Happened again. Looking for fun and here I am -------
"All By Myself"
When I was young
I never needed anyone
And making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
Livin' alone
I think of all the friends I've known
When I dial the telephone
Nobody's home
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
Hard to be sure
Sometimes I feel so insecure
And loves so distant and obscure
Remains the cure
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Don't wanna live
All by myself
Anymore
When I was young
I never needed anyone
Making love was just for fun
Those days are gone
All by myself
Don't wanna be
All by myself
Anymore
All by myself
Don't wanna live
Oh
Don't wanna live
By myself, by myself
Anymore
By myself
Anymore
Oh
All by myself
Don't wanna live
I never, never, never
Needed anyone
