Thanks, Raggedy. Cyracuz posted Grieg on another thread, and I know that I have heard his compositions, so I guess I'll just keep searching until I can find the song and hear it.

Just a quick break in the great songs of the absurd for a look at some weather, astronomy facts and lore.

March Moon names: Snow Blind, Maple Sugar, Worm. Snow blind is very real out here in the southwest--Colorado typically gets the most snow in the month of March.

Planting by the phases of the moon, a few excerpts from an informative site:

It (gardening) was so well established in the first century AD that it became part of the "natural history" that Pliny wrote about in his series of the same name.

Â…planting by the phases of the Moon makes this possible. Seeds germinate faster. Plants are hardier and more disease-resistant. They blossom sooner and bear more fruit. Just as importantly, they better resist the stress of harsh weather, drought and insect infestation

Telling the stages of the moon by using the letters DOCÂ…The first quarter Moon appears as a small crescent with the bulge facing to the right, as it does in the capital letter "D".
At second quarter, the Moon appears half full and resembles the letter "D". The light of the Moon increases each night until it reaches the Full Moon stage and hangs in the night sky like a great big "O." When the Moon decreases from Full Moon back to New Moon phase, the bulge moves to the left side, like a "C".
Crops that set produce above the ground are connected to the Moon's increase in size from New Moon to Full Moon (the waxing period) because the Moon is growing "up." Crops with the edible part growing below the ground are related to the phase between the Full Moon and New Moon, when the circle of light diminishes or grows "down" (the waning period).
First quarter Moon: Plants that produce their seeds on the outside,
Second quarter Moon: Plants that set seeds inside a pod or skin do best when planted in this quarter.
Third quarter Moon: All vegetable root crops such as potatoes, onions, radishes and beets do best planted in this phase. Perennial flowers, flower bulbs, shrubs and trees also prefer the third quarter.
Fourth quarter Moon: This phase is reserved for garden clean up. There's a gardening rumor that if you pull weeds during the fourth quarter, they won't grow back!

Letty: Did you click on the link I gave you and then on Samples on the left side of the page? It will give you the melody if that's what you're trying to find. It's from the Peer Gynt Suite.

Thanks, Raggedy--I'd forgotten how beautiful Anitra's dance is and how I love the Peer Gynt Suite.

Esa-Pecca Salonen. That is a name I enjoy just for the sound and the way it feels to say it---great punctuation!

Diane, I missed your moon stuff. I need to review it more carefully, as I know the bit about which phase of the moon one must watch to have a successful harvest. Thanks, honey.

Listeners, Piano Concerto in A minor. That's the one that I remember best. Fantabulous!

and speaking of harvest moons:

The night was might dark and you could hardly see,
And the moon refused to shine.
A couple sitting underneath a willow tree,
For love they pined.

The little maid was might fraid of darkness so
She said, I think I'll go.

The boy began to sigh,
He looked up in the sky,
And told the moon his little tale of woe.

Shine on, shine on harvest moon, up in the sky,
Cause I ain't had no lovin' since January, February, June or July.
Snow time, ain't no time to stay, outdoors and spoon. (there's that word again)
So shine on, shine on harvest moon
For me and my gal.

Remember every single word of it.

Classical, absurd, poetry, history, you'll hear it all on WA2K radio, folks.

And ladies, the hottest skirt for this season is the a gypsy skirt with tonnes of fabric, lace and folds !!

Listeners, aren't we glad to have The Prince back on our station, albeit he is far above our station. Hmmmm. Maybe a dot of lipstick on the forehead may suffice and would be nice.

Sooooo, WA2K radio fans. The gypsy skirt is in again, and to quote ehBeth:

Now that I've vented, it is lovely to have you back with us. I too plan to check out your bum when we get to London. Isn't sightseeing wonderful??

Djjd62 and Edgar, the songs you posted were fabulous.

djjd62, are you young? The groups whose songs you post are not familiar to me, but they write fascinating lyrics. I also like the diversity of the groups.

what's your definition of young Very Happy

i'm 42, with a fairly large base of music knowledge from many genres and time periods

dj, not only are you young, but great looking, my friend. I'm Jack Benny's age, a perpetual 39. Laughing

and, listeners, while Diane anticipates ogling the Prince's bum, here's a bit of news:

John DeLorean died today at the age of eighty. For many of you who remember Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future, you will recall the DeLorean car and the unhappy circumstances which surrounded it. Another squeeze by Detroit City? Perhaps, as in the Tucker automobile.

one for the "ages"

When I was 17,
It was a very good year.
It was a very good year
For small town girls
And soft summer nights.
We'd hide from the lights
On the village green
When I was 17.

When I was 21,
It was a very good year,
it was a very good year
For city girls
Who lived up the stair,
With perfumed hair
That came undone
When I was 21.

When I was 35,
It was a very good year,
It was a very good year
For blue-blooded girls,
Of independent means,
We'd ride limousines,
Their chauffeurs would drive,
When I was 35.

But now the days are short,
I'm in the autumn of the year.
And now I think of my life
As vintage wine
From fine old kegs.
From the brim to the dregs,
it poured sweet and clear.
It was a very good year!

and one for the "engines"

Here in my car
I feel safest of all
I can lock all my doors
It's the only way to live
In cars

Here in my car
I can only receive
I can listen to you
It keeps me stable for nights
In cars

Here in my car
Where the image breaks down
Will you visit me please?
If I open my door
In cars

Here in my car
I know I've started to think
About leaving tonight
Although nothing seems right
In cars

Well, bless my empty head. I forgot to fill you in on Friday's karaoke. There was a newbie there who sang Unforgettable. I didn't realize it at first but he sang Nat King Cole's part and then sang Natalie Cole's. Now there's a first. Not only did he switch voices during the song but there was no discernable pause. I don't know how he did it.

Anyway following my regimen (I try to sing a new song each Friday) I'm going to try The Everly Brothers Let it be Me.

Let It Be Me
As performed by the Everly Brothers
Hit # 7 on the top 40 charts in February, 1960

I blessed the day I found you,
I want to stay around you,
And so I beg you,
Let it be me.

Don't take this heaven from one,
If you must cling to someone,
Now and forever,
Let it be me.

Each time we meet love,
I find complete love,
Without your sweet love,
What would life be?

So never leave me lonely,
Tell me you love me only,
And that you'll always
Let it be me

Instrumental Break

And that you'll always,
Let it be me.

Each time we meet love,
I find complete love,
Without your sweet love,
What would life be?

So never leave me lonely,
Tell me you'll love me only,
And that you'll always,
Let it be me.

Yes, djjd62, I am old enough to be your mother---62, but like Letty, 39 at heart.

You and Dys would love a good gabfest. He worked at a radio station here in Albuquerque in the early 70's. It was before Clear Channel and all the other clones. He was also concert promoter and had a talk show with a friend. They could get away with the most outrageous things, including "interviews" with people like McNamara, Gen. Westmoreand, et al. Surprising how many listeners thought they were really there in the Albuquerque studio right in the midst of Vietman. LOL Rolling Eyes

He knows music inside and out, including the label, playing times, composer, ties to historical music, etc. I love listening to his stories of music and performers.
