Rich and rare were the gems she wore*,
And a bright gold ring on her wand she bore;
But oh! her beauty was far beyond
Her sparkling gems, or snow-white wand.
2. "Lady! dost thou not fear to stray,
So lone and lovely through this bleak way?
Are Erin's sons so good or so cold,
As not to be tempted by woman or gold?"
3. "Sir Knight! I feel not the least alarm,
No son of Erin will offer me harm: --
For though they love woman and golden store,
Sir Knight! they love honour and virtue more!"
4. On she went, and her maiden smile
In safety lighted her round the green isle;
And blest for ever is she who relied
Upon Erin's honour and Erin's pride.
From the footnotes of Irish Melodies:
* This ballad is founded upon the following anecdote: -- "The people were inspired with such a spirit of honour, virtue, and religion by the great example of Brien, and by his excellent administration, that, as a proof of it, we are informed that a young lady of great beauty, adorned with jewels and a costly dress, undertook a journey alone, from one end of the kingdom to the other, with a wand only in her hand, at the top of which was a ring of exceeding great value; and such an impression had the laws and government of this Monarch made on the minds of all the people, that no attempt was made upon her honour, nor was she robbed of her clothes or jewels." -- Warner's History of Ireland, vol. i., book x.

How very lovely, hbg. I find it refreshing, folks, that the native songs of one's country are particularly poignant.
Right now, I am listening to the melody to "...those endearing young charms..." and realized that there is a child's Christian song that has the same melody. "I think when I read those sweet stories of old."
Should anyone like to listen with me.
This site is by an unusual group called Esperanto, and the chord changes are wonderful.
Early in the mornin'
Risin' to the street
Light me up that cigarette and I'll strap shoes on my feet
Got to find a reason
Reason things went wrong
Got to find a reason why my money's all gone
I got a dalmation
I can still get high
I can play the guitar like a motherf**kin' riot
Well life is too short so love the one you got
Cause you might get run over or you might get shot
Never start no static I just get it off my chest
Never had to battle with my bulletproof vest
Take a small example, take a tip from me
Take all of your money, give it up to charity
Life is what I got it's within my reach, and
The sublime style still straight from Long Beach
It all comes back to you, you bound to get what you deserve
Try and test that, you're bound to get served
Love's what I got, don't start a riot
You'll feel it when the dance gets hot
Lovin' is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin' is what I got, now remember that
Lovin' is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin' is what I got, I got, I got, I got
I don't cry when my dog runs away
I don't get angry at the bills I have to pay
I don't get angry when my mom smokes pot
Hits the bottle then goes back to the rock
F**kin, fightin', it's all the same
Livin' with Louie dog's the only way to stay sane
Let the lovin', let the lovin' come back to me
Cause lovin' is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin' is what I got, And remember that
Lovin' is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin' is what I got, I got, I got I got

Well, there he is folks, back and singing about "life's too short." Great lyrics, dj, and as long as we don't have the devil to pay, why not.
Hmmm. Some call it the Bermuda Triangle and some the Devil's Triangle.
Fleetwood Mac - Bermuda Triangle
I guess you've heard about the Bermuda triangle
There's something going on
Nobody seems to know just what it is
And the airforce won't let on
It might be hole down in the ocean
Yeah or a fog that won't let go
It might be some crazy people talking
Or somebody that we ought to know
Down in Bermuda, the pale blue sea
Way down in the triangle, it's easy to believe
Now here's one
You see strange shapes in moonlight
And shadows in the night
They said that wingtip seemed to brush their faces
And strangers stole their sight
Way down in the triangle
Where the sea was smooth as glass
Giving you one answer to a question
That you never thought you'd ask
Ah down in Bermuda, in the pale blue sea
Way down in Bermuda, yeah it's easy to believe
Down in the triangle, it's easy to believe
They came from Galveston
They came from New Orleans
And then from Bloomington, and Delaware
The used St. Petersburg, they came from Tampa
And then from Mexico, it doesn't matter where
They all completely share,
All of those ships and planes,
A great big mystery that cannot be explained,
Down in Bermuda, in the pale blue sea
Your feeling safe in your harbour
And everything seems certain
Right next to Palm Beach and Key Biscane
Behind a velvet curtain
But then the moon goes grey with worry
And the sea turns a pale white
You better believe something strange is going on tonight
Down in Bermuda, ah, the pale blue sea
Bermuda Triangle, yeah, it's easy to believe
Down in the Triangle, it's easy to believe
They came from Galveston
They came from New Orleans
And then from Bloomington, and Delaware
Bermuda, the pale blue sea

CITIZEN COPE LYRICS
"Bullet And A Target"
Mr.Dali Lamas
Another sister's shootin' heroin tomorrow
Amputees in Freetown
Sierra Leone's
The church wasn't honest
The state put the youth in a harness
Creatin' hostility among us
Teacher said no college
Still the kid's gotta get a check with a couple commas
People wanna bomb us
More people gotta scatter and run from us
You can blame it on Zeus and Apollo and Adonis
But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away
But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away
I've been knowing her for years
I've been seeing her for years
She got dark, dark wavy hair
With a voice like she just don't care
She got a skirt with a halter top
She's got a dad who never gave a ****
She drinks a beer with her mom 'til dawn
She got knocked up in a pickup truck
But she got engaged when she was nineteen
To this dude who was acting insane
Had a .45 that he always cleaned
Said one day one day one too many days
Now she ducked and she ran away
Never to be heard from, never to be seen
I check the cover of a magazine
I'm just wondering how, just wondering how
But what you've done here
Is put yourself between a bullet and a target
And it won't be long before
You're pulling yourself away

Well, there's our Gus talking crazy. Hey, buddy. Guess all of us are still crazy after all these years.
er, Amigo. Dali Lamas? Is that with one L or two. Now that's a crazy song, but it takes all kinds, right?
How about a calmer one, listeners.
Oldfield Sally? <weird>
Last night I couldn't stand the crowd
I went walking down by the sea
The full moon shone on the silver sand
and I felt you were following me
All the summer our friendships growing
I felt that you really cared
I never wanted a one night stand
'cos something stronger was there
The way that I'm feeling tonight is lonely
'Cos we've lost something fine
We could have taken it much more slowly
and found the perfect time
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn
Now that love has gone I can't forget
Please stay
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn
The things we could have done and could have said
Were just a breath away
You've been talking about your life
and the way that you want it to be
It felt so good when you took my hand
and you shared your soul with me
Suddenly your eyes were changing
there was something on your mind
Then I could have turned away
but desire was so blind
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn
Now that love has gone I can't forget
Please stay
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn
The things we could have done and could have said
Were just a breath away
Strangers in the dawn
Strangers in the dawn
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn
Now that love has gone I can't forget
Please stay
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn
The things we could have done and could have said
Please stay
Oh! we became two strangers in the dawn

Once there were green fields kissed by the sun
Once there were valleys where rivers used to run
Once there were blue skies with white clouds high above
Once they were part of an everlasting love
We were the lovers who strolled through green fields
Green fields are gone now, parched by the sun
Gone from the valleys where rivers used to run
Gone with the cold wind that swept into my heart
Gone with the lovers who let their dreams depart
Where are the green fields that we used to roam
I'll never know what made you run away
How can I keep searching when dark clouds hide the day
I only know there's nothing here for me
Nothing in this wide world, left for me to see
Still I'll keep on waiting until you return
I'll keep on waiting until the day you learn
You can't be happy while your heart's on the roam
You can't be happy until you bring it home
Home to the green fields and me once again

Four Green Firlds
"What did I have?" said the fine old woman
"What did I have?" this proud old woman did say
"I had four green fields, each one was a jewel
But strangers came and tried to take them from me
I had fine strong sons, they fought to save my jewels
They fought and died, and that was my grief" said she
"Long time ago" said the fine old woman
"Long time ago" this proud old woman did say
"There was war and death, plundering and pillage
My children starved by mountain valley and sea
And their wailing cries, they shook the very heavens
My four green fields ran red with their blood" said she
"What have I now?" said the fine old woman
"What have I now?" this proud old woman did say
"I have four green fields, one of them's in bondage
In stranger's hands, that tried to take it from me
But my sons have sons, as brave as were their fathers
My fourth green field will bloom once again" said she

The Whistling Gypsy
The gypsy rover came over the hill
Down through the valley so shady
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady
Adi-doo, adi-doo da day
Adi-doo, adi-day dee
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady
She left her father's castle gate
She left her own fond lover
She left her servants and estate
To follow the gypsy rover
Adi-doo, adi-doo da day
Adi-doo, adi-day dee
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady
Her father settled up his fasted steed
Roamed the valleys all over
Sought his daughter at great speed
And the whistling gypsy rover
Adi-doo, adi-doo da day
Adi-doo, adi-day dee
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady
He came at last to a mansion fine
Down by the river Clady
And there was music and there was wine
For the gypsy and his lady
Adi-doo, adi-doo da day
Adi-doo, adi-day dee
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady
"He is no gypsy, my father" she said
"But lord of these lands all over
And I will stay 'til my dying day
With my whistling gypsy rover"
Adi-doo, adi-doo da day
Adi-doo, adi-day dee
He whistled and he sang 'til the green woods rang
And he won the heart of a lady

God Bless England
Oh, I'll tell you a tale of peace and love
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Of a land that reigns all lands above
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
May peace and plenty be her share
Who kept our homes from want and care
Oh, God bless England is our prayer
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
So we say "hip hooray"
Come and listen while we pray
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Now our fathers oft were naughty boys
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
For pikes and guns are dangerous toys
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
At Ballinahabwee and at Bunker's hill
We made poor England cry her fill
But old Brittania loves us still
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
So we say "hip hooray"
God bless England so we pray
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Now, when we were savage, fierce and wild
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
She came as a mother to her child
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Gently raised us from the slime
And kept our hands from hellish crime
And she sent us to heaven in our own good time
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
So we say "hip hooray"
God bless England so we pray
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Well, now Irish men forget the past
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
And think of the day that's coming fast
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
When we shall all be civilized
Neat and clean and well advised
Oh, won't mother England be surprised?
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day
So we say "hip hooray"
God bless England so we pray
Whack fol the diddle o the die do day

The Ballad of Sigmund Freud
Written and performed by the Chad Mitchell Trio
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it started in Vienna not so many years ago
When not enough folks were getting sick
A starving young physician tried to better his position
By discovering what made his patients tick
He forgot about sclerosis and invented the psychosis
And a hundred ways that sex could be enjoyed
He adopted as his credo "down repression of libido!"
And that was the start of Doctor Sigmund Freud
Well, Doctor Freud, oh Doctor Freud
How we wish you had been differently employed
But the set of circumstances
Still enhances the finances
of the followers of Doctor Sigmund Freud
Well, he analyzed the dreams of the teens and libertines
Substituted monologue for pills
He drew crowds just like Will Sadler
When along came Jung and Adler
And they said by God, there's gold in them there ills!
They encountered no resistance
When they served as Freud's assistants
As with ego and with id they deftly toyed
But instead of toting bedpans
They wore analytic deadpans
Those ambitious doctors Adler, Jung and Freud!
Now the big three have departed
But not so the code the started
No, it's being carried on by a goodly band
And to trauma shock and force us
Someone's gone and added Rorschach
And the whole thing's got completely out of hand!
So old boys with double chinsies
And a thousand would-be Kinseys
They discuss it at the drop of a repression
And I wouldn't be complaining
But for all the loot I'm paying
Just to lie on someone's couch and say confession!

Great songs, guys. Green Fields and gypsy's and England's distant shore. Love them all as does our audience, even Gus (odd Gus as well) likes our stuff here on the radio.
How about one by Paul Simon, listeners.
American Tune based on J.S. Bach's "Oh Sacred Head"
Words & music by Paul Simon
Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far a-way from home, so far away from home
And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
but it's alright, it's alright
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we're traveling on
I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what has gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul ROSE unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying
We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the a-ge's most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

Oops, missed edgar's cathexis song. Ah the old id, ego, and super ego. Actually, Texas, he still makes some sense to me. Wow, those are clever lyrics.
Hey, hbg. That's a Dixie Melody? Sounds as though Jerry Lee is at the hop.
Here's the real Dixie, Canada.
Al Jolson
Rock-a-bye your baby with a Dixie melody,
When you croon, croon a little tune from the heart of Dixie!
Just hang that cradle, Mammy mine,
On the Mason-Dixon line,
And swing it from Virginia
To Tennessee with all the pull that's in ya.
"Weep No More, My Lady," sing that song again for me,
And "Old Black Joe," just as though you had me on your knee!
A million baby kisses I'll deliver,
If you will only sing that "Swanee River,"
Rock-a-bye your rock-a-bye baby with that Dixie melody.

When High School Confidential hit the radio, I used to run the stations endlessly, searching for it.
I've been away from you along time
I never thought I'd miss 'ya so
Somehow I feel, your love is real
Near you I wanna be.
The Birds are singing it is songtime
The banjos strumming soft and low
I know that you yearn for me to swanee you're calling me
Chorus
Swanee - how I love ya, how I love ya
My dear old swanee.
I'd give the world to be among the folks in D-I-X-I-E-ven though my mammy's waiting for me,
praying for me down by the swanne.
The folks up north will see me no more when I get to that swanee shore
(he whistles like a bird)
I love the old folks at home
Swanee - how I love ya, how I love ya
My dear old swanee. I'd give the world to be among the
folks in D-I-X-I-E-ven though my mammy's waiting for
me, praying for me down by the swanee.
The folks up north will see me no more when I get to that swanee shore.

edgar, I really liked Jerry Lee's Long Tall Sally. It's strange how our brains tune in to certain things, right?
Love that one, Victor. I am always amazed at Mel Brooks and Al Jolson. Both are Jewish and both have broken away from the obvious to do what they see needs doing.
I recall Cav saying that he loved the expression, Viva la difference.
Here's one from Armenian Cher, folks, but since it's a little longish, I will only play part of it, but you get the idea, I'm certain.
What if the world was crazy and I was sane
Would it be so strange
I can't believe that I am alone in saying
The things I'm saying
I am - part of you
These are - universal truths
We're all - part of the light that flows through everything
[Chorus:]
This is a different kind of love song
Dedicated to everyone
Different kind of love song, - oh, oh
This is a different kind of love song
A higher plane we can go on
Different kind of love song - oh, oh
What if the world calmed down and we could all breathe
Together easily
Connecting the sky and the ground with you and me
And everything in between
I am - part of you
We have - living proof
There is - some kind of light that flows through everything
[This is a different kind of love song
Ooh, A love song
Ooh, Ooh, Ooh
This is a different kind of love song
Dedicated to everyone
Different kind of love song
Ooh, Ooh, Ooh
This is a different kind of love song
A higher plane we can go on
Different kind of love song
Ooh, oh oh - Ooh, oh, oh
This is a different kind of love song
This is a different kind, a different kind
of love song
Ooh, Ooh, Ooh
that I am higher in with crazy love song
Ooh, am we ground higher What love - Ooh
This part of of sane
Would on
Different song universal song, etc
You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss
A sigh is still (just) a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say: "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs - never out of date
Hearts full of passion - jealousy and hate
Woman needs man - and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
Good Night Everyone Victor!

Goodnight, Victor, and Letty is not far behind.
Another from Casablanca, folks.
It had to be you, it had to be you
I wandered around, and finally found
The somebody who
Could make me be true,
And could make me be blue
And even be glad, just to be sad
Thinking of you
Some others I've seen,
Might never be mean
Might never be cross,
Or try to be boss
But they wouldn't do
For nobody else, gave me a thrill
With all your faults, I
Love you still
It had to be you, wonderful you
It had to be you.
