As I'm in a weird mood tonight, who better than Weird Al Yankovic?

Love the mental images this song brings to mind:

Weird Al - Truck drivin song.
Lyrics: Weird Al - Truck drivin song lyrics - All artist lyrics

I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a big ol' truck
Pedal to the metal, hope I don't run out of luck
Rollin' down the highway until the break of dawn
Drivin' a truck with my high heels on

My diesel rig is northward bound
It's time to put that hammer down
Just watchin' as the miles go flyin' by
I'm ridin' twenty tons of steel
But it's sure hard to hold the wheel
While I'm still waiting for my nails to dry

Oh, I always gotta check my lipstick in that rear view mirror
And my pink angora sweater fits so tight
I'm jammin' gears and haulin' freight
Well, I sure hope my seams are straight
Lord, don't let my mascara run tonight

Because I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a big ol' truck
[ Truck drivin song lyrics found on http://www.completealbumlyrics.com ]
Smokey's on my tail and my accelerator's stuck
Got these eighteen wheels a-rollin until the break of dawn
Drivin' a truck with my high heels on

Oh, I don't mind when my crotchless panties creep right up on me
And my nipple rings don't bother me too much
But when I hit those big speed bumps
My darling little rhinestone pumps
Keep slippin' off the mother-lovin' clutch

But still I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a big ol' truck
Headin' down the interstate, just tryin' to make buck
Wearin' feather boas with sequins and chiffon
While I'm drivin' a truck with my high heels on

I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a truck
Got a load to carry and some eyebrows left to pluck
And I'm late for my appointment down at the hair salon
So I'll be drivin' a truck with my high heels on

Guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back, guess who's back,
guess who's back...

still got some work to do, to be 100%, but it's comin' along

psst, Tai, don't tell boomer that dj is back. Razz

Thanks, edgar, for bringing the reggae into our studio this evening, and hamburger, I love Anything Goes. Things haven't changed much have they, Canada.

Diane, I know what you mean by feeling weird, and Al said it rather well.

dj, hope you're back to stay, honey.

Now I must say goodnight, and this is dedicated to our long gone German shepherd, whom we nicknamed Eb. Bud always said to keep Eb tied when strangers came around so....

Frank Sinatra
Ebb Tide

Writers: Sigman/Maxwell

First the tide rushes in
Plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea
And the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side
Like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought
Will your arms open wide
At last we're face to face
And as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I can feel
You are love, you are real
Really mine
In the rain, in the dark, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb
I'm at peace in the web
Of your arms

Goodnight, all
From Letty with love

Leonard Cohen version

Ill be loving you always
With a love thats true, always
When the things youve planned
Need a helping hand
I will understand, always, always

Days may not be fair, always
Thats when Ill be there, always
Not for just an hour

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

Well, folks, we've had our lessons in flirting, and it's only natural to imitate the animal kingdom, right?

edgar, It is always a surprise to me to discover what Cohen has done, and his having sung "Always" is one of those delights.

Dutchy, actually the most appealing method of courtship is simple silence. This poem is a bit weird, but it seems to fit the mood this morning, listeners.

Silence

My father used to say,
"Superior people never make long visits,
have to be shown Longfellow's grave
or the glass flowers at Harvard.
Self-reliant like the cat -
that takes its prey to privacy,
the mouse's limp tail hanging like a shoelace from its mouth-
they sometimes enjoy solitude,
and can be robbed of speech
by speech which has delighted them.
The deepest feeling always shows itself in silence;
not in silence, but restraint."
Nor was he insincere in saying, "Make my house your inn."
Inns are not residences.

Bless You
Tony Orlando

[Written By Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil]

Every time I faced the world I just had to cry-y-y
I stood alone with no love of my own
But then you happened by

Oh, darlin', bless you
Bless every breath that you take (bless you)
Yeah-ah-ah, bless ev'ry move that you make so perfectly (ooh-ooh)
And bless your little heart for lovin' me (bless you)
Ooh (bless you), bless you (bless you), bless you (bless you), child

Till you smiled and took my hand I felt kinda small
But you stood by me for the whole world to see
And then I was ten feet tall

Oh, darlin', bless you
Bless every breath that you take (bless you)
Mm-mm-mm, bless ev'ry move that you make so perfectly (ooh-ooh)
And bless your little heart for lovin' me (bless you, bless you)

Oh, darlin', bless you
Bless every breath that you take (bless you)
Baby, bless ev'ry move that you make so perfectly (ooh-ooh)
And bless your little heart for lovin' me

Baby, bless you
Bless every breath that you take (bless you)
Yeah-ah-ah, bless ev'ry move that you make so perfectly
FADE
And bless your little heart for lovin' me

edgar, your song by Tony reminds us once again that love is a two way street. It has taken me a lifetime to realize that it is impossible to love someone who doesn't return a simple affection.

Gloria says it well, folks.

GLORIA ESTEFAN

Love On A Two Way Street
(From the album "HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME")

I found love on a two way street
Lost it on a lonely highway
Love on a two way street
Lost it on a lonely highway

True love will never die
So I've been told, but now I must cry
It is finally goodbye, I know

With the music softly playing
His lips were gently saying
I love you

He held me in desperation
I thought it was a revelation
And then he walked out

How could I be so blind
To give up love the very first time
To be fooled is a hurting pain
To be loved and fooled
Is a crying shame
While I bear the blame
As he laughs my name

With the music softly playing
His lips were gently saying
Honey, I love you
He held me in desperation
I thought it was a revelation
And then he walked out

I found love on a two way street
Lost it on a lonely highway
Love on a two way street
Lost it on a lonely highway

I found love on a two way street
Lost it on a lonely highway
Love on a two way street
Lost it on a lonely highway

Good afternoon, Raggedy. What a wonderful array of famous folks, PA.

There's Basil the hound; Ben the mighty; Precious Paul; Malcom the orange, and finally Ally the Cat. Razz

Thanks, pretty pup. (sorry--can't stop alliterating)

Hmmm, folks. It's a toss-up between "Rain Keeps Falling" and "What's the Matter with Kids Today." (hope our hawk is all right)

I have a better idea. Let's do something about old Mexico, and this is dedicated to the wolf lady and the hamburgers.

It happened in Monterey, a long time ago,
I met her in Monterey, in ol' Mexico.
Stars an' steel guitars and luscious lips as red as wine,
Broke somebody's heart and I'm afraid that it was mine.

It happened in Monterey, without thinkin' twice,
I left her an' threw away the key to Paradise.
My indiscreet heart, longs for a sweetheart,
That I left in ol' Monterey!

Love that alliteration. Very Happy

And one more for the road:

South of the border, down mexico way
Thats where they fell in love when stars above came out to play
And now as they wander, their thoughts ever stray
South of the border, down mexico way

She was a picture in old spanish lace
Just for a tender while
He kissed the smile
Upon her face
For it was fiesta and they were so gay
South of the border, down mexico way

Then she sighed as she whispered manana
Never dreaming that they were parting
And he lied as he whispered manana
For that tomorrow never came

South of the border, he rode back one day
There in a veil of white
By candlelight
She knelt to pray
The mission bells told him that he mustn't stay
South of the border, down mexico way

Ay-ay-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay
Ay-ay-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay

Ah, Raggedy. That song brought by more genetic memories. My brother sang that one, and I think it is so strange that I can recall his songs and very little about him.

Here's another, folks. I want to keep the RNA alive.

When the swallows come back to Capistrano
That's the day you promised to come back to me
When you whispered, "Farewell", in Capistrano
Twas the day the swallow flew out to sea

All the mission bells will ring
The chapel choir will sing
The happiness you'll bring
Will live in my memory
When the swallows come back to Capistrano
That's the day I pray that you'll come back to me

All the mission bells will ring
The chapel choir will sing
The happiness you'll bring
Will live in my memory
When the swallows come back to Capistrano
That's the day I pray that you'll come back to me

The cliff swallows.

And that is our ornithology song and bird show for today.

Me and Bobby McGee
Janis Joplin

[Words and Music by Kris Kristofferson]

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin´ for a train
And I´s feelin´ near as faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained
It rode us all the way into New Orleans
I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
I´s playin´ soft while Bobby sang the blues, yeah
Windshield wipers slappin´ time
I´s holdin´ Bobby´s hand in mine
We sang every song that driver knew, yeah

Freedom´s just another word for nothin´ left to lose
Nothin´ don´t mean nothin´ hon´ if it ain´t free, no, no
And feelin´ good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues
You know, feelin´ good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee

From the Kentucky coal mine to the California sun
There Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Through all kinds of weather, through everything we done
Yeah, Bobby baby kept me from the cold
One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away
He´s lookin´ for that home and I hope he finds it
But I´d trade all o´ my tomorrows for one single yesterday
To be holdin´ Bobby´s body next to mine

Freedom´s just another word for nothin´ left to lose
Nothin´, that´s all that Bobby left me, yeah
But if feelin´ good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues
Hey, feelin´ good was good enough for me, mm-hmm
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee

La-da-da La-da-da-da La-da-da da-da da-da
La-da-da da-la-da la-da, Bobby McGee, yeah
La-da-la-da-la-da La-da-la-da-da
La-da-la-da-la-la, Bobby McGee, yeah
La-da-da La-da-da La da-da La da-da
La-da-da La da-da La da-da
Hey, my Bobby, Lord, my Bobby McGee, yeah
Lo-da-lo da-la-lo-da-la
Lo-da-la-lo da-la-lo la-la-lo la-la-lo la-la
Hey, my Bobby, Lord, my Bobby McGee, yeah

Lord, I call him my lover, call him my man
I said I call him my lover, did the best I can, c´mon
Hey now Bobby now, hey now Bobby McGee, yeah
La-da la-da la-da la-da la-da la-da la-da la-la
Hey, hey, hey,
Bobby McGee, Lord

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

La-da la-da la-da la-da
La-da la-da la-da la
Hey, hey, hey
Bobby McGee, yeah

Victor, Welcome to our wee studio. Yes, edgar did play that song. Razz

Which do you like the best, buddy. Janis or Kris?

Here's one of my favorites by that Kristofferson man.

Take the ribbon from your hair, Shake it loose and let it fall,
Layin' soft upon my skin. Like the shadows on the wall.

Come and lay down by my side till the early morning light
All I'm takin' is your time. Help me make it through the night.

I don't care what's right or wrong, I wont try to understand.
Let the devil take tomorrow. Lord, tonight I need a friend.

Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight.
And it's sad to be alone. Help me make it through the night.

I don't care what's right or wrong,I don't try to understand.
Let the devil take tomorrow. Lord, tonight I need a friend.

Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow's out of sight.
And it's sad to be alone. Help me make it through the night.

I don't want to be alone. Help me make it through the night.

In my case, Victor, it should be help me make it through the storm. It is really storming here right now.

It's a toss up between Kris Kristofferson and Janis Joplin. The first time I heard the song was on the old Tonight Show with Johnny Carson sung by Janis Joplin. That really makes me feel old!

Well, Victor, think about how young Janis was, and you'll feel better about feeling old.

Here's is a tribute to Janis.

Artist: Joan Baez
Song: In the quiet morning

In the quiet morning
There was much despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
Tossed by the tides of misfortune
Barely here to tell her tale
Rolled in on a sea of disaster
Rolled out on a mainline rail

She once walked right at my side
I'm sure she walked by you
Her striding steps could not deny
Torment from a child who knew

That in the quiet morning
There would be despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
She cried out her song so loud
It was heard the whole world round
A symphony of violence
The great southwest unbound

la laa laa laa la la la laa laa
la laa laa laa la la laa laa
la laa laa laa la la la laa laa
la la la laa laa
la la la laa

In the quiet morning
There was much despair
And in the hours that followed
No one could repair

That poor girl
Tossed by the tides of misfortune
Barely here to tell her tale
Rolled in on a sea of disaster
Rolled out on a mainline rail

I heard once that the movie "The Rose" with Bette Midler was based on Janis Joplin's life.

I'm no fan of Bette Midler, but I was mighty impressed by her first starring role in "The Rose". The Divine Miss M plays Rose, a Janis Joplin-type, living her last days in a sea of sex, booze, and drugs. The movie shows painfully and slowly how her life goes completely out of control, while her friends and management are helpless.

Midler, unlike the unbearably long line of singers/rappers/divas/bubblegum pop stars who have done acting, can do both and dominate. Midler's Oscar-nominated performance is awesome, and her singing voice is superb as she belts out the songs with panache. If you want to see her do something else besides the endless comedies she does, check this one out.

I know Rose, Victor, and you check out the movie Beaches, because one of my very favorite songs is done by Bette in that movie.

Wind Beneath my Wings

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way,
you always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name -- for so long,
a beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Chorus
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing with out you.

Chorus
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly, fly, fly away,
you let me fly so high.
Oh, fly, fly,
so high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
the wind beneath my wings.

I'm listening to the melody right now.
