Thanks for the faces, Raggedy. Once again you stirred an old memory, PA. but I need to check it out first.

Well, we're looking at Raymond and Fats, folks.

The most amazing part of Fats' life is that he played pipe organ as well as jazz piano.

Here's his most famous song and performed by Hank Williams, Jr.

The song was written by Fats Waller a long time ago

It has a great chord structure if you have the time to learn it

Ain't Misbehavin'
G-G#dim-Am7-D7
[G]No one to [G#dim]talk with, [Am7]all by my[A#dim]self
[Bm7]No one to [Cdim]walk with but I'm [Cmaj]happy on the
[C#dim]shelf
[G]Ain't misbe[Em7]havin' [Am7]savin' my [D7]loving for
[G]you[G#dim][Am7][D7]

I know for certain, you're the one I love
There's no more flirtin' it's you I'm thinkin' of
Ain't misbehavin' savin' my lovin' for you[G][C][G][B7]

[Em7]Like Jack Horner, [C]in the corner [Em7]don't go nowhere
[E7]What do I care
[A7]Your kisses are worth waiting [Am7]for......[D7]believe me

I don't stay out late nowhere to go
I'm home about eight, just me and my radio
Ain't misbehavin' savin' my lovin' for you.

My Dreams Are Getting Better All The Time
Doris Day w/ The Les Brown Orchestra

Well, what do you know, he smiled at me in my dreams last night
My dreams are getting better all the time
And, what do you know, he smiled at me in a different light
My dreams are getting better all the time

To think that we were strangers a couple of nights ago
And though it's a dream, I never dreamed he'd ever say hello
Oh, maybe tonight I'll hold him tight when the moonbeams shine
My dreams are getting better all the time

---- Instrumantal Interlude ----

To think that we were strangers a couple of nights ago
And though it's a dream, I never dreamed he'd ever say hello
Oh, maybe tonight I'll hold him tight when the moonbeams shine
My dreams are getting better all the time

hey, edgar. Well, Texas, I didn't know that the crooner did it first. Quite a surprise.

and here's another surprise, folks. I read that the lead singer for Creed was arrested for domestic violence, so I went to the archives and found this song. (never heard of Creed, either)

Creed

What's this life for
Hurray for a child that makes it through
If there's any way, because the answer lies in you
Their laid to rest, before they know just what to do
Their souls are lost, because they could never find
What's this life for
I see your soul it's kind of gray
I see your heart, you look away
You see my wrist, I know your pain
I know your purpose on your plane
Don't say a last prayer, because you could never find
What's this life for
But they ain't here anymore
Don't have to settle the score
Cause we all live under the reign of one king.

Odd lyrics, no?

Doesn't Lenny Live Here Anymore
By Phil Ochs

INTRO: G/C/G/C/G
C G C G C G /C/G/C
You laugh at the people who walk outside on the sidewalk
G C G
And you talk to yourself so much
C G /C/G
when you see other people you can't talk
Am
This time it's true
D7 G G /C/G7
The charade is through
Bm C /D7
And you can't seem to run away from you
Away from you
Am D7
And the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loser
G C G
Stands rejectedly by the door
C G Em Am
Doesn't Lenny live here anymore?
D7
Are you sure?

You sit at the desk
To lose your life in a letter
But the words don't seem to come and you know that they're(?) better
and it's all so strange
Pictures lose their frame
And I'll bet you never guessed
There was so much pain
So much pain
Until the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loser
Stands rejectedly by the door
Doesn't Lenny live here anymore?
Are you sure?

The moon, she shines too soon and simply sadly
You loved your love so much that you'd strangle her madly
And it's all so slow
Time has ceased to flow
And the whistling whore knows something you don't know
And the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loser
Stands rejectedly by the door
Doesn't Lenny live here anymore?
Are you sure?

You swore you'd store your love for one time only
Now you searched the books in vain for better word for lonely
And you're torn apart
No other love will start
And you, you'd like to steal a happy heart
A happy heart
Then the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loser
Stands rejectedly by the door
Doesn't Lenny live here anymore?
Are you sure?

The fat official smiles at the pass on the border
And the hungry broom makes sure that the room is in order
You pull the shade
All the beds are made
As your lips caress the razor of the blade
Of the blade
And the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loser
Stands rejectedly by the door
Doesn't Lenny live here anymore?
Are you sure?

The soul of the sun shines just outsde of the winter
The shoulders charged, the boards of the barricade is splintered
Now at last alone
The flashlight is shown
Hello inside is there anybody home?
Anybody home?
It's the haggard ex-lover of a long-time loser
Standing rejectedly by the door
Doesn't Lenny live here anymore?
Are you sure?
Are you sure?
Are you sure?

I wondered where you got your sig line, edgar. I declare, folks, Phil Ochs is as cryptic as Cohen.

Here's another from Michael Buble. I do wish he wouldn't be a carbon copy of Sinatra.

Call Me Irresponsible lyrics
Call me irresponsible
Call me unreliable
Throw in undependable, too

Do my foolish alibis bore you?
Well, I'm not too clever, I
I just adore you

So, call me unpredictable
Tell me I'm impractical
Rainbows, I'm inclined to pursue

Call me irresponsible
Yes, I'm unreliable
But it's undeniably true
That I'm irresponsibly mad for you

Do my foolish alibis bore you?
Girl, I'm not too clever, I
I just adore you

Call me unpredictable
Tell me that I'm so impractical
Rainbows, I'm inclined to pursue

Go ahead call me irresponsible
Yes, I'm unreliable
But it's undeniably true
I'm irresponsibly mad for you

You know it's true
Oh, baby it's true

"Hurt"
"Hurt" is a promotional single from Nine Inch Nails' 1994 album The Downward Spiral. "Hurt" is often hailed as one of Trent Reznor's best, most introspective pieces of songwriting

In 2002, "Hurt" was covered by Johnny Cash to great critical acclaim; it was Cash's final hit before his death. Its accompanying video, featuring images from Cash's life up to his final months, was named the best video of the year by the Grammy Awards and Country Music Awards.

The following lyrics are Reznor's version (in Cash's version the lyrics are 'crown of thorns'...in Reznor's, it's 'crown of ****').

"Hurt"

i hurt myself today
to see if i still feel
i focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but i remember everything

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

i wear this crown of ****
upon my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
i cannot repair
beneath the stains of time
the feelings disappear
you are someone else
i am still right here

what have i become?
my sweetest friend
everyone i know
goes away in the end
and you could have it all
my empire of dirt
i will let you down
i will make you hurt

if i could start again
a million miles away
i would keep myself
i would find a way

"Because" Dave Clark Five
Now, from a more innocent time...

Can't you hear those great soulful voices and big sound from the past...that shimmering, reedy organ sound from Dave Smith of DC5? Remember dancing close with that special person for the first time. Smell that cologne/perfume? No more dancing from that 'safe' distance.

"Because"

It's right that I should care about you
And try to make you happy when you're blue
It's right, it's right to feel the way I do
Because, because I love you

It's wrong to say I don't think of you
'Cause when you say these things
You know it makes me blue

Give me one kiss and I'll be happy
Just, just to be with you
Give me, give me, a chance to be near you
Because, because I love you

------ solo ------

Give me one kiss and I'll be happy
Just, just to be with you
Give me, give me, a chance to be near you
Because, because I love you
Because, because I love you

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

First, allow me to thank our speckled pup for the album cover that verifies Bing did indeed do Blue Hawaii.

edgar, I checked out Lenny Bruce. What a sad story, and Phil Ochs did base that song on him.

Diane, Welcome back, honey, and I am certain that our Bob of Boston will let us know SOME stuff. Razz

Well, listeners, there's our Ragman. Glad to see you again, and I, for one, really can identify with your "Hurt" song. Thanks, buddy.

Back later, folks, with a couple of songs, a disco ball, and an observation about "Being there".

From Janet Gaynor, the survivor gal...

GLORIA GAYNOR Song Lyrics

Reach Out, I'll Be There
(From the album "GREATEST HITS")

Now if you feel that you can't go on
Because all your hope is gone
And your life is filled with confusion
And happiness is just an illusion
And your world around is tumblin' down
Darling, reach out
Reach out, for me.

I'll be there to love and confort you...(tell me baby)
I'll be there with the love I'll see you through

Now when you're lost and about to give up
'cause your best just ain't good enough
and you feel the world has grown cold
and you're driftin' on your own
when you need a hand to hold
darling, reach out
reach out, for me.

I'll be there to love and confort you
I'll be there with the love I'll see you through

I'll be there to love and confort you
I'll be there to with the love I'll see you through

I can tell you the way I hang your head
Now with out of love , now you're afraid
And through your tears you look around
But there's no peace of mind to be found

I know what you're thinking
Witout love, now you're alone
Baby, reach out
Reach out for me

I'll be there to love and confort you
I'll be there with the Love I'll see you through

I'll be there to love and confort you
Tell me baby
I'll be there to always see you through
I'll be there

I'll be there to love and confort you
I'll be there with the love I'll see you through.

Question of the day. Is it possible that we are "there" too often?

From Dolly Parton.

If she brings you happiness
Then I wish you both the best
It's your happiness that matters most of all
But if she ever breaks your heart
If the teardrops ever start
I'll be there before the next teardrop falls

Though it hurts to let you go
Darling I want you to know
I'll run to you if ever you should call
And if I should ever hear
That she's made you shed a tear
I'll be there before the next teardrop falls

I'll be there anytime you need me by your side
To dry away each teardrop you've cried
If she ever leaves you blue
Just remember I love you
And I'll be there
Before the next teardrop falls

Sometimes, "being there" all the time is not a good thing.

Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat
Yes, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat
Well, you must tell me, baby
How your head feels under somethin' like that
Under your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, you look so pretty in it
Honey, can I jump on it sometime?
Yes, I just wanna see
If it's really that expensive kind
You know it balances on your head
Just like a mattress balances
On a bottle of wine
Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, if you wanna see the sun rise
Honey, I know where
We'll go out and see it sometime
We'll both just sit there and stare
Me with my belt
Wrapped around my head
And you just sittin' there
In your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, I asked the doctor if I could see you
It's bad for your health, he said
Yes, I disobeyed his orders
I came to see you
But I found him there instead
You know, I don't mind him cheatin' on me
But I sure wish he'd take that off his head
Your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, I see you got a new boyfriend
You know, I never seen him before
Well, I saw him
Makin' love to you
You forgot to close the garage door
You might think he loves you for your money
But I know what he really loves you for
It's your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Oh, the ragman draws circles
Up and down the block.
I'd ask him what the matter was
But I know that he don't talk.
And the ladies treat me kindly
And furnish me with tape,
But deep inside my heart
I know I can't escape.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Well, Shakespeare, he's in the alley
With his pointed shoes and his bells,
Speaking to some French girl,
Who says she knows me well.
And I would send a message
To find out if she's talked,
But the post office has been stolen
And the mailbox is locked.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Mona tried to tell me
To stay away from the train line.
She said that all the railroad men
Just drink up your blood like wine.
An' I said, "Oh, I didn't know that,
But then again, there's only one I've met
An' he just smoked my eyelids
An' punched my cigarette."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Grandpa died last week
And now he's buried in the rocks,
But everybody still talks about
How badly they were shocked.
But me, I expected it to happen,
I knew he'd lost control
When he built a fire on Main Street
And shot it full of holes.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the senator came down here
Showing ev'ryone his gun,
Handing out free tickets
To the wedding of his son.
An' me, I nearly got busted
An' wouldn't it be my luck
To get caught without a ticket
And be discovered beneath a truck.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the preacher looked so baffled
When I asked him why he dressed
With twenty pounds of headlines
Stapled to his chest.
But he cursed me when I proved it to him,
Then I whispered, "Not even you can hide.
You see, you're just like me,
I hope you're satisfied."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the rainman gave me two cures,
Then he said, "Jump right in."
The one was Texas medicine,
The other was just railroad gin.
An' like a fool I mixed them
An' it strangled up my mind,
An' now people just get uglier
An' I have no sense of time.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

When Ruthie says come see her
In her honky-tonk lagoon,
Where I can watch her waltz for free
'Neath her Panamanian moon.
An' I say, "Aw come on now,
You must know about my debutante."
An' she says, "Your debutante just knows what you need
But I know what you want."
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

Now the bricks lay on Grand Street
Where the neon madmen climb.
They all fall there so perfectly,
It all seems so well timed.
An' here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice.
Oh, Mama, can this really be the end,
To be stuck inside of Mobile
With the Memphis blues again.

It's true that all the men you knew were dealers
who said they were through with dealing
Every time you gave them shelter
I know that kind of man
It's hard to hold the hand of anyone
who is reaching for the sky just to surrender.
And then sweeping up the jokers that he left behind
you find he did not leave you very much
not even laughter
Like any dealer he was watching for the card
that is so high and wild
he'll never need to deal another
He was just some Joseph looking for a manger
He was just some Joseph looking for a manger.
And then leaning on your window sill
he'll say one day you caused his will
to weaken with your love and warmth and shelter
And then taking from his wallet
an old schedule of trains, he'll say
I told you when I came I was a stranger
I told you when I came I was a stranger.
But now another stranger seems to want you to ignore his dreams
as though they were the burden of some other
O you've seen that man before
his golden arm dispatching cards
but now it's rusted from the elbow to the finger
And he wants to trade the game he plays for shelter
Yes he wants to trade the game he knows for shelter.
You hate to watch another tired man
lay down his hand
like he was giving up the holy game of poker
And while he talks his dreams to sleep
you notice there's a highway
that is curling up like smoke above his shoulder
It's curling up like smoke above his shoulder.
You tell him to come in sit down
but something makes you turn around
The door is open you can't close you shelter
You try the handle of the road
It opens do not be afraid
It's you my love, you who are the stranger
It is you my love, you who are the stranger.
Well, I've been waiting, I was sure
we'd meet between the trains we're waiting for
I think it's time to board another
Please understand, I never had a secret chart
to get me to the heart of this
or any other matter
Well he talks like this
you don't know what he's after
When he speaks like this,
you don't know what he's after.
Let's meet tomorrow if you chose
upon the shore, beneath the bridge
that they are building on some endless river
Then he leaves the platform
for the sleeping car that's warm
You realize, he's only advertising one more shelter
And it comes to you, he never was a stranger
And you say ok the bridge or someplace later.
And then sweeping up the jokers
that he left behind
you find he did not leave you very much
not even laughter
Like any dealer he was watching for the card
that is so high and wild
he'll never need to deal another
He was just some Joseph looking for a manger
He was just some Joseph looking for a manger.
And leaning on your window sill
he'll say one day you caused his will
to weaken with your love and warmth and shelter
And then taking from his wallet
an old schedule of trains
he'll say I told you when I came I was a stranger
I told you when I came I was a stranger.

I'm missing our Letty. I sure hope everything is OK.

Remembering Sir Laurence Olivier and Paul Winfield (Sounder and TV miniseries "King" on their day.

Letty is fair, Raggedy. Just a little down today. That often happens in the aftermath of tragedy. I just noticed my error in renaming Gloria, Janet. I guess it was the seventh heaven that did it.

Thanks, dys, for "the stranger and the ragman".

I have to smile a little at Sir Laurence as I recall Bud having told me that when he was at Tech, he had someone else do a research paper for him and it was titled:

Was Hamlet Mad? The professor returned the papers, vocally commenting on each one.

Mike, not bad but could use some editing
Bill, excellent
Bud, you're playing with fire. <smile>

Ah, PA, I had forgotten Paul and the movie, "Sounder". Thanks for the memory, honey.

It's Only Make Believe
Conway Twitty

[Written by Conway Twitty and Jack Nance]

People see us everywhere
They think you really care
But myself I can't deceive
I know it's only make believe

My one and only prayer is that some day you'll care
My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you
No one will ever know how much I love you so
My only prayer will be someday you'll care for me
But it's o-only make believe

My hopes, my dreams come true, my life I'd give for you
My heart, a wedding ring, my all, my everything
My heart I can't control, you rule my very soul
My only prayer will be someday you'll care for me
But it's o-only make believe

My one and only prayer, is that some day you'll care
My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you
No one will ever know how much I love you so
My prayer, my hope, and my schemes, you are my every dream
But it's o-only make believe
