Glad to see our edgar playing the fab five as I was wondering about tornatic activity in Texas and severe weather warnings in PA as well.
Well, it is spring, folks, and turbulence is everywhere.
Became fascinated with John Prine, so let's hear him this morning.
Artist: John Prine
Song: Illegal smile
Album: John Prine
When I woke up this morning, things were lookin' bad
Seem like total silence was the only friend I had
Bowl of oatmeal tried to stare me down... and won
And it was twelve o'clock before I realized
That I was havin' .. no fun
Chorus:
But fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun
Last time I checked my bankroll,
It was gettin' thin
Sometimes it seems like the bottom
Is the only place I've been
I Chased a rainbow down a one-way street... dead end
And all my friends turned out to be insurance salesmen
Repeat Chorus:
Well, I sat down in my closet with all my overalls
Tryin' to get away
From all the ears inside my walls
I dreamed the police heard
Everything I thought... what then?
Well I went to court
And the judge's name was Hoffman
Ah but fortunately I have the key to escape reality
And you may see me tonight with an illegal smile
It don't cost very much, but it lasts a long while
Won't you please tell the man I didn't kill anyone
No I'm just tryin' to have me some fun
Well done, hot dog bun, my sister's a nun

Homonyms for today:
These three afford several chances for confusion. Complacent is the adjective that belongs with the nouns complacence and complacency. Complaisant means "obliging, willing to please." Compliant means "willing to obey, submissive." Also similar are the pronunciations of complacent (kuhm-PLAIS-ent or kuhm-PLAIZ-ent) and complaisant (kuhm-PLAIZ-ent, kuhm-PLAIS-ent, or KAHM-pluh-zent). The quite differently pronounced compliant is stressed on the second syllable: kuhm-PLEI-ent.
And thus, folks, we know what the complaisant lover means.
Hope all is well in Boston and PA.

Good morning WA2K.
All's well in PA, thank you, with the exception of a steady downpour and at this stage, I really don't care whether the flowers ever bloom in May. But, I'm really not complaining - I don't have to go out in it today.
So:
Let's wish a Happy 67th to Al; 61st to Talia Shire(Adrian/Connie) - hmmm, I wonder if Al and Talia shared a cake during the filming of The Godfather; 43rd to Hank Azaria and 38th to Renee Zellweger.
and a Good Day to all.

which leaves us to ponder, Raggedy, which came first: the puppy or the hawk?
Well, folks, we are looking at Al, Talia, Hank, and Renee. Hmmm. Now we need BioBob to put info to face.
Back later with the appropriate song.

My word, listeners, I just found out that Hank Azaria was Victor in the 1998 version of Godzilla. This lead me to find a re mastered song of David Bowie that was featured in that film.
David Bowie - Heroes Lyrics
I-I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins-like dolphins can swim
Though nothing-nothing will keep us together
We can beat them-for ever and ever
Oh we can be heroes-just for one day
I-I will be king
And you-you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes-just for one day
We can beat them-just for one day
I-I can remember
Standing-by the wall
And the guns-shot above our heads
And we kissed-as though nothing could fall
And the shame-was on the other side
Oh we can beat them-forever and ever
Then we could be heroes-just for one day
We can be heroes (3X)
Just for one day
We can be heroes
We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer, just for one day
Oh, oh, oh, ohhh-oh, oh, oh, ohhh, just for one day
Oh, just for one day.
Do you know how Godzilla got killed at the end? Oh, you don't know and don't care? Don't blame 'ya

Heart- Anything's possible
"There are times in your life they take you by surprise
You and I, I know we can talk about it
You're important to me, like the air that I breathe
You and me, I know we can talk about it
When my conscience comes undone
I unfold and morning comes
I know you're my friend
hold on and transcend
I know anything is possible
I don't ask for much
just show who you are
and I'll know anything is possible
There's a shadow of doubt turning you inside out
What you reveal can make you so strong, yeah
Tell me where is the proof, does it lie in the truth
I believe we can be anyone
When my conscience comes undone
I awake and morning comes
I know you're my friend
hold on and transcend
I know anything is possible
I don't ask for much
Just show who are
I'll know anything is possible
oh yeah
I wanna know all about you
I wanna know all about you
I wanna know you
Chorusx1
Let me know what you want
Let me know what you need
If you hold out your hand
you can be anything baby
anything, anything is possible"

Well, TTH, I think this must be heart day as I was looking at an old Valentine card. Gave me a smile.
and from Toni Braxton....
Unbreak My Heart
Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Come back and bring back my smile
Come and take these tears away
I need your arms to hold me now
The nights are so unkind
Bring back those nights when I held you beside me
Unbreak my heart
Say you'll love me again
Undo this hurt you caused
When you walked out the door
And walked outta my life
Uncry these tears
I cried so many nights
Unbreak my heart, my heart
Take back that sad word good-bye
Bring back the joy to my life
Don't leave me here with these tears
Come and kiss this pain away
I can't forget the day you left
Time is so unkind
And life is so cruel without you here beside me
Ohh, oh
Don't leave me in all this pain
Don't leave me out in the rain
Bring back the nights when I held you beside me
Unbreak my
Unbreak my heart, oh baby
Come back and say you love me
Unbreak my heart
Sweet darlin'
Without you I just can't go on
Can't go on
Hope our hawkman is all right

THE DRIFTERS - "I Count The Tears"
Na,na,na,na,na,na late at nite
Na,na,na,na,na,na late at nite
I have counted everyday since you've been away
It seemed like a thousand years
and at na,na,na,na,na,na,late at night
na,na,na,na,na,na late at night
I'll sit and count the tears
I have counted all your lies all your alibis
I'm a guy believes just what he hears
and at na,na,na,na,na,na,late at night
na,na,na,na,na,na,late at night
I'll sit and count the tears
She's gone and found somebody new
He may be happy now but soon
He'll be counting everyday that she's been away
It'll seem like a thousand years
And at na,na,na,na,na,na,late at night
Na,na,na,na,na,na,late at night
He'll sit and count his tears
He'll sit and count his tears
He'll sit and count his tears
He'll sit....and count his tears

Oh Babe What Would You Say
Hurricane Smith
[Written by E S Smith]
As I have hoped for half a chance
To even ask if I could dance with you, you-oo
Would you greet me or politely turn away
Would there suddenly be sunshine on a cold and rainy day
Oh, Babe
What would you say
For there are you sweet lollipops
Here am I with such a lot to say, hey hey
Just to walk with you along the Milky Way
To caress you through the night time
Bring you flowers everyday
Oh, Babe
What would you say
Just so, Baby I know
I know I could be so in love with you
And I know that I could make you love me too
And if I could only hear you say you do-oo-oo-oo-oo
But anyway
What would you say
---- Instrumental Interlude ----
Just so, Baby I know
I know I could be so in love with you
And I know that I could make you love me too
And if I could only hear you say you do-oo-oo-oo-oo
But anyway
What would you say

Hey, edgar. Your Drifters song reminded me of this one, Texas.
Bananarama
Na Na Hey Hey
Na na na na na na na na
Hey hey hey goodbye
He'll never love you
The way that I love you
'Cause if he did no,
No he wouldn't make you cry
(bridge)
He might be thrilling baby but my love's
So dog-gone willing so kiss him,
Go on and kiss him goodbye
(chorus)
Na na na na na na na na
Hey hey hey
Goodbye
He's never near you
To comfort and cheer you,
When all those sad tears are
Falling baby from your eyes
(bridge)
(chorus repeat fade)
and in Spanish, folks.
Na del na del na del na del na del na del na del Na
Hey hey hey adiós
Él nunca le amará
La manera que te quiero
' causa si él hizo no,
Ningún él no le haría grito
(puente)
Él puede ser que emocione el bebé pero mi amor
Tan dog-gone queriendo béselo tan,
Enciéndase y béselo adiós
(estribillo):
Na del na del na del na del na del na del na del Na
Hey hey hey
Adiós
Él nunca está cerca de usted
Para confortarle y animar,
Cuando son todos esos rasgones tristes
Bebé que cae de sus ojos
(puente)
(la repetición del estribillo se descolora)

Beatles
Hey jude, dont make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
Hey jude, dont be afraid.
You were made to go out and get her.
The minute you let her under your skin,
Then you begin to make it better.
And anytime you feel the pain, hey jude, refrain,
Dont carry the world upon your shoulders.
For well you know that its a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder.
Hey jude, dont let me down.
You have found her, now go and get her.
Remember to let her into your heart,
Then you can start to make it better.
So let it out and let it in, hey jude, begin,
Youre waiting for someone to perform with.
And dont you know that its just you, hey jude, youll do,
The movement you need is on your shoulder.
Hey jude, dont make it bad.
Take a sad song and make it better.
Remember to let her under your skin,
Then youll begin to make it
Better better better better better better, oh.
Na na na na na ,na na na, hey jude...

Celine Dion: It's All Coming Back To Me Now
"There were nights when the wind was so cold
That my body froze in bed
If I just listened to it
Right outside the window
There were days when the sun was so cruel
That all the tears turned to dust
And I just knew my eyes were
Drying up forever
I finished crying in the instant that you left
And I can't remember where or when or how
And I banished every memory you and I had ever made
But when you touch me like this
And you hold me like that
I just have to admit
That it's all coming back to me
When I touch you like this
And I hold you like that
It's so hard to believe but
It's all coming back to me
(It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now)
There were moments of gold
And there were flashes of light
There were things I'd never do again
But then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure
It was more than any laws allow
Baby Baby
If I kiss you like this
And if you whisper like that
It was lost long ago
But it's all coming back to me
If you want me like this
And if you need me like that
It was dead long ago
But it's all coming back to me
It's so hard to resist
And it's all coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now
But it's all coming back
There were those empty threats and hollow lies
And whenever you tried to hurt me
I just hurt you even worse and so much deeper.
There were hours that just went on for days
When alone at last we'd count up all the chances
That were lost to us forever
But you were history with the slamming of the door
And I made myself so strong again somehow
And I never wasted any of my time on you since then
But if I touch you like this
And if you kiss me like that
It was so long ago
But it's all coming back to me
If you touch me like this
And if I kiss you like that
It was gone with the wind
But it's all coming back to me
(It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now)
There were moments of gold
And there were flashes of light
There were things we'd never do again
But then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure
It was more than all your laws allow
Baby, Baby, Baby
When you touch me like this
And when you hold me like that
It was gone with the wind
But it's all coming back to me
When you see me like this
And when I see you like that
Then we see what we want to see
All coming back to me
The flesh and the fantasies
All coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now
If you forgive me all this
If I forgive you all that
We forgive and forget
And it's all coming back to me
When you see me like this
And when I see you like that
We just see what we want to see
All coming back to me
The flesh and the fantasies
All coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now
(It's all coming back to me now)
And when you kiss me like this
(It's all coming back to me now)
And when i touch you like that
(It's all coming back to me now)
If you do it like this
(It's all coming back to me now)
And if we.."

Bread And Butter
The Newbeats
[Written by Larry Parks and Jay Turnbow]
I like bread and butter
I like toast and jam
That's what my baby feeds me
I'm her loving man
He likes bread and butter
he likes toast and jam
That's what his baby feeds him
he's her loving man
She don't cook mashed potatoes
she don't cook T-bone steaks
Don't feed me peanut butter
she knows that I can't take
He likes bread and butter
he likes toast and jam,
That's what his baby feeds him,
he's her loving man.
Got home early one morning,
much to my surprise,
She was eating chicken and dumplings
with some other guy.
No more bread and butter,
no more toast and jam,
I found my baby eating
with some other man.

Good afternoon WA2K.
A Happy 64th to Gary Wright today 'cause I love songs about dreamers.
Gary Wright
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Gary Wright (born 26 April 1943, Cresskill, New Jersey, U.S.) is an American musician, most famous for his song, "Dream Weaver".
Wright, a personal friend of George Harrison, appeared in a TV show at the age of seven. Later he came to Europe to continue studying psychology. In 1967 he joined the band, Spooky Tooth as singer and keyboardist. After Spooky Tooth's split in 1974, Wright continued his solo career, culminating in "Dream Weaver". The single peaked at #2 for three weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976, and went gold. It was also featured in the Wayne's World film and soundtrack. Later that year, his follow-up single "Love Is Alive" also reached #2 (for two weeks).
Ronnie Montrose played guitar on the Gary Wright song "Power Of Love", from his Dream Weaver album.
But, this would be the last significant success Wright would achieve on the pop chart until 1981, when he returned with "Really Wanna Know You", a bouncy, bass-heavy song that managed to hit #16.
His 1981 song "Comin' Apart" was sampled by Armand Van Helden in the 2004 club dance anthem, "My, My, My".
Dream Weaver
Gary Wright
I've just closed my eyes again
Climbed aboard the dream weaver train
Driver take away my worries of today
And leave tomorrow behind
(chorus
Ooh dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain
(chorus again
Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side

Thanks to everyone for the songs. I am going through some problems right now, but I feel that I should acknowledge each one of you.
edgar, I was amazed about Larry Parks. I vaguely recall him having done the Al Jolson story and being discredited because of the red scare.
Thank you, TTH. Celine Dion's "It's all coming back to me now" has lovely lyrics.
ah, Raggedy. I am afraid that I don't know Gary Wright, PA., but I, too, love songs about dreamers. Thank you for the photo and the song.
Last evening, I could not sleep so I watched Kevin Costner in the movie, No Way Out. He was a double agent. I got that movie confused with Against All Odds, so let's here that song by Phil Collins, shall we?
~ Phil Collins / Mariah Carey
How can I just let you walk away,
just let you leave without a trace
When I stand here taking every breath with you, ooh
You're the only one who really knew me at all
How can you just walk away from me,
when all I can do is watch you leave
'cause we've shared the laughter and the pain
and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now,
oh there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face
Ooh take a look at me now,
well there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against all odds
and that's what I've got to face
I wish I could just make you turn around,
turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you,
so many reasons why
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now,
well there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now,
'cause there's just an empty space
But to wait for you, is all I can do
and that's what I've got to face
Take a good look at me now,
cos I'll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance I've gotta take
Take a look at me now.

Carol Burnett
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Birth name Carol Creighton Burnett
Born April 26, 1933 (1933-04-26) (age 74)
San Antonio, Texas, United States
Carol Creighton Burnett (born April 26, 1933) is a five-time Golden Globe winning American actress and comedienne. In a career spanning five decades in television, stage and film, she is best known for her eponymous variety show that ran on CBS from 1967 through 1978.
Early life
Burnett was born in San Antonio, Texas to Jodie and Louise Burnett. Both of her parents, particularly her father, suffered from alcoholism, and at a young age she was left with her grandmother. Burnett moved to Hollywood, California with her grandmother where she was raised in a boarding house.
When Burnett was in the fourth grade she created for a short time, an imaginary twin sister named Karen, with Shirley Temple-like dimples. Motivated to further the pretense Burnett recalled fondly that she "fooled the other boarders in the rooming house where we lived by frantically switching clothes and dashing in and out of the house by the fire escape and the front door. Then I became exhausted and Karen mysteriously vanished."[1]
She graduated from Hollywood High School and then attended University of California, Los Angeles, eventually working her way up through bit parts on TV. Burnett's mother disapproved of Carol's acting desires: "She wanted me to be a writer. She said you can always write, no matter what you look like. When I was growing up she told me to be a little lady, and a couple of times I got a whack for crossing my eyes or making funny faces. Of course, she never, I never dreamed I would ever perform." Mrs. Burnett died while Carol was still looking to gain a foothold in a Broadway role.[1]
Career
Early career
After several minor appearances in theater and television, Burnett was first noticed in the mid-1950s with a comic novelty love song "I Made a Fool of Myself Over John Foster Dulles" (Dulles was Secretary of State at the time).
Burnett also appeared during this time in an NBC sitcom, Stanley, with Buddy Hackett, which lasted one season. She also appeared as a regular on one of television's earliest game shows, Pantomime Quiz.
Burnett's first true taste of success came with her appearance on Broadway in the 1959 musical Once Upon a Mattress. In the same year, she became a regular player on The Garry Moore Show, which she would continue until 1962.
She won an Emmy in 1962 for her "Outstanding Performance in a Variety or Musical Program or Series" on the show. Burnett portrayed a number of characters, most memorably a put-upon cleaning woman. With her success on the Moore show, she finally rose to headliner status and appeared in the 1962 special Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall, co-starring her friend Julie Andrews.
Comedy legend Lucille Ball became a friend and mentor to Burnett, and after having the younger performer guest star on The Lucy Show a number of times, Ball reportedly offered Burnett her own sitcom, to be produced by Desilu. Burnett declined the offer, however, deciding instead to put together a variety show. The two remained close friends until Ball's death in 1989. Ball sent flowers every year on her birthday. When Burnett awoke on the day of her 56th birthday in 1989, she discovered via the morning news that Ball had died. Later that afternoon, the flowers Lucy had arranged arrived at Burnett's house, with the note "Happy Birthday, Kid. Love, Lucy."[2]
"The Carol Burnett Show"
The hour-long Carol Burnett Show debuted in 1967, and was a huge success, garnering 22 Emmy Awards. Its ensemble cast included Tim Conway (who was a guest player until the 9th season[3]), Harvey Korman, Lyle Waggoner, and the teenaged Vicki Lawrence (who was cast partly because she looked like a young Burnett). The network did not want her to do a variety show because they believed only men could be successful at variety but Burnett's contract required that they give her one season of whatever kind of show she wanted to make.[3]
Burnett became known for her Tarzan yell during many shows, and for ending each show by tugging her ear, which was a message to the grandmother who had raised her to let her know that she was doing well and that she loved her.
The show also became known for its closing theme song, with the following lyrics: I'm so glad we had this time together / Just to have a laugh and sing a song / Seems we just got started and before you know it / Comes the time we have to say, 'So long.' [1]
During the show's run, Burnett's grandmother died. On the Lifetime Channel's "Intimate Portrait" biography on Burnett, she tearfully recalled her grandmother's last moments: "She said to my husband Joe from her hospital bed 'Joe, you see that spider up there?' There was no spider but Joe said he did anyhow. She said 'Every few minutes a big spider jumps on that little spider and they go at it like RABBITS!!' And then she died. There's laughter in everything!"
The Carol Burnett Show ceased production in 1978, and is generally regarded as the last successful major network variety show, to date. It continues to have success in syndicated reruns. During this time, she was open to her fans, never refusing to give an autograph and had limited patience for "Those who've made it, then complain about loss of privacy."[1]
Other roles and appearances
After the show ended, Burnett assumed a number of roles that departed from comedy. She appeared in several dramatic roles, most notably in the television movie Friendly Fire. She appeared as Beatrice O'Reilly in the film Life of The Party: The Story of Beatrice, a story about a woman fighting her alcoholism. Her other film work includes The Four Seasons, Annie, and Noises Off.
Burnett also made occasional returns to the stage: in 1974, she appeared at The Muny Theater in St. Louis, Missouri in I Do! I Do! and eleven years later, she took the supporting role of Carlotta Campion in the 1985 concert performance of Stephen Sondheim's Follies.
Burnett made frequent appearances as a panelist on the game show Password ?- an association she maintained until the early 1980s.
In the 1980s and 1990s, she made several attempts at starting a new variety program. She also appeared briefly on the Carol Burnett Show spinoff Mama's Family as her character Eunice. She also appeared in the miniseries "Fresno", which mirrored the nighttime soap opera Falcon Crest; Burnett played the matriarch.
Burnett returned to TV in the mid-1990s as a supporting character on the sitcom Mad About You when she played Theresa Stemple, the mother of main character Jamie Buchman (Helen Hunt).
Burnett has long been a vocal fan of the soap opera All My Children. She realized a dream when Agnes Nixon created the role of Verla Grubbs for her. Burnett suddenly found herself playing the long-lost daughter of Langley Wallingford (Louis Edmonds), and raising hell for her stepmother Phoebe Tyler-Wallingford (the late Ruth Warrick). She hosted a 25th anniversary special about the show in 1995 and made a brief cameo as Verla Grubbs on the January 5, 2005 episode celebrating the 35th anniversary of the program. Due to scheduling conflicts, the scene was shot on the Los Angeles set of General Hospital instead of the New York City set where All My Children is taped.
Burnett most recently appeared on the popular television program Desperate Housewives playing Eleanor, the cold stepmother of lead character Bree Hodge (portrayed by Marcia Cross).
Lawsuits
Burnett drew attention in 1981, when she sued the National Enquirer for libel after the tabloid newspaper described her alleged public drunkenness, purportedly with Henry Kissinger. Burnett was particularly sensitive to the accusations because of her parents' own alcoholism. The case was a landmark for libel cases involving celebrities, although the unprecedented $1.6 million verdict for Burnett was reduced to about $800,000 on appeal, and eventually settled out of court.
She donated a portion of that award to the University of Hawaii saying she hoped the suit would teach aspiring journalists the dangers of defaming individuals in articles. The money was used to fund Law and Ethics courses at the school. Burnett said at the time that she didn't care if she just won "carfare", and that the lawsuit was a matter of principle.
In March 2007, she sued 20th Century Fox for copyright infringement, trademark violation, statutory violation of right of privacy, and misappropriation of name and likeness over the use of an altered version of her signature closing song and the portrayal of her charwoman character in an episode of Family Guy.[2]
Personal and family life
The first house Burnett lived in was the Beverly Hills house formerly owned by Harry James and Betty Grable. Growing up in rented rooms, a home was "a luxury" as "A Murphy bed was [her] idea of spacious."[1]
She married Don Saroyan on December 15, 1955; the couple divorced in 1962. On May 4, 1963, Burnett married TV producer Joe Hamilton, a divorced father of eight, with whom she had three daughters: actress and writer Carrie Hamilton, Jody Hamilton and singer Erin Hamilton. The marriage ended in divorce in 1984, and Hamilton later died of cancer. In 2001, she married Brian Miller.
Personal tragedy struck Burnett in January 2002 when her daughter Carrie Hamilton died of lung and brain cancer at the age of 38. Carrie Hamilton was addicted to drugs as a teenager, but overcame it with her husband's help. Burnett and her daughter wrote a play together, Hollywood Arms, adapted from Burnett's bestselling memoir, One More Time. The Broadway production featured Linda Lavin as Burnett's character's beloved grandmother.
Awards and recognition
Burnett was a recipient of the 2003 Kennedy Center Honors at the age of 70.
President George W. Bush awarded Burnett the Presidential Medal of Freedom on November 9, 2005.

Jet Li (born Li Lianjie on April 26, 1963 in Beijing, China) is a Chinese martial artist, actor and action star. He is one of the most recognized and famous actors and martial artists in Asia and one of the few actors from China who has gained wider fame outside of Asia.
Biography
Li's father died when he was two. His mother [1] sent him to the Beijing Amateur Sports School at the age of eight. After three years of intensive training, Li won his first national championship for the Beijing Wushu Team. After retiring at age 17, he went on to win great acclaim in China as an actor. His first role in an English-speaking movie was as a villain in Lethal Weapon 4, but his first Hollywood film of high acclaim was Romeo Must Die. He has since released his final martial arts motion picture epic, Fearless.
As an athlete
Jet Li participated in the sport of wushu in the non-sparring event. He began his wushu career as a member of the Beijing Wushu team, an athletic group organized to perform martial arts forms during the All China Games. As a member of the team, he received wushu training and went on to win fifteen gold medals and one silver medal in Chinese wushu championships:
1974 ?- Youth National Athletic Competition: broadsword form gold medal, optional empty-hand form gold medal, all-round gold medal;
1975 ?- Third Chinese Wushu Championships: long fist form gold medal, spear form silver medal;
1977 ?- National Wushu Competition: long-fist form gold medal, broadsword form gold medal;
1978 ?- National Wushu Competition: long-fist form gold medal, optional empty-hand form gold medal, broadsword form gold medal, all-round gold medal;
1979 ?- Fourth Chinese Wushu Championships: long-fist form gold medal, optional empty-hand form gold medal, broadsword form gold medal, sparring form gold medal, all-round gold medal.
All his optional empty-hand form medals were won with a form called fanzi yingzhaoquan (翻子鷹爪拳, Fanzi eagle claw). His success led to the PRC declaring Jet Li to be a "National Treasure".
As an actor
The fame gained by his sports winnings led to a career as a martial arts film star, beginning in mainland China and then continuing into Hong Kong. After his success in Hong Kong, and establishing a cult following in the U.S., Jet Li established a presence in American films, beginning with role as the lead villain in Lethal Weapon 4, which also marked the first time he had ever played a villain in a movie. His first leading role in a Hollywood movie was in Romeo Must Die.
As one might expect from a martial artist of his caliber, he performs most of his own stunts.
Some of his more famous Chinese films include:
The Shaolin Temple series (1, 2 and 3), which are considered to be the films which sparked the rebirth of the real Shaolin Temple in Dengfeng, China;
The Once Upon a Time in China series (Chinese title: Wong Fei Hung), about the legendary Chinese folk hero;
Fist of Legend (Chinese title: Jing Wu Ying Xiong), a remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury (Jing Wu Men in Chinese, named after the martial arts school);
The Fong Sai-Yuk films, about another Chinese folk hero.
Jet Li starred in the 1995 movie, Shu dan long wei, known in English as "Courage of a Mouse and Power of a Dragon". The movie, known in the US as either High Risk or Meltdown, portrays Jet Li as a cop who becomes disillusioned after his wife is murdered by crimelords. Along the way, he pairs up with a wacky sell-out actor, Frankie (played by Jacky Cheung), and proceeds to engage in a series of violent battles in a high-rise building. The setting is similar to that of Die Hard (which interestingly, is known in China as Fo Dan Wei Long, or "Courage of a tiger and power of a dragon").
In July 2001, Jet Li and Jackie Chan agreed to produce and star in an action movie which was to be released in 2002 or 2003, but no further news of their collaboration surfaced until 2006. In 2002, the film Hero was released in the Chinese market. This film was both a commercial and critical success.
Li departed from his usual martial arts actions films with the 2005 drama, Unleashed (a.k.a. Danny the Dog) where he portrays an adult with the mentality of a child who has been raised like an animal. Although his martial arts skills are indeed utilized, it is a somber film with more depth than had been previously seen in Li's films, and co-starred dramatic actors, Bob Hoskins and Morgan Freeman.
His latest martial arts film epic is Fearless. Although he will continue to make movies, Fearless is his last martial arts epic. In Fearless, he is known as Huo Yuanjia, the real-life founder of Chin Woo Athletic Association, who reportedly defeated foreign boxers and Japanese martial artists in publicized events at a time when China's power was seen as eroding. Together with the film Fist of Legend, Li has portrayed both Chen Zhen, the student and avenger of Huo Yuanjia, as well as Huo Yuanjia himself. Fearless was released on September 22, 2006 in the United States where it reached second place in its first weekend.
" I stepped into the martial arts movie market when I was only 16. I think I have proved my ability in this field and it won't make sense for me to continue for another five or 10 years. Huo Yuanjia is a conclusion to my life as a martial arts star. "
Jet Li has stated in an interview with the Shenzhen Daily newspaper that this will be his last martial arts epic, which is also stated in the movie's television promotions. However, he plans to continue his film career in other genres. Specifically, he plans to continue acting in action and martial arts films; epic films deal more with religious and philosophical issues.
Li's latest film, War, began principal photography in the spring of 2006, re-teaming Jet Li with actor Jason Statham and action choreographer Corey Yuen.
Jackie Chan and Jet Li are scheduled to begin filming The Forbidden Kingdom together in May 2007. The film will be based on the legend of the Monkey King from the Chinese folk novel Journey to the West. [2]
Personal life
In 1987 Jet Li married Beijing Wushu Team member and Shaolin Temple series co-star Huang Quiyan [3] , with whom he had two children. They divorced in 1990. Since 1999, he has been married to Nina Li Chi (born Li Zhi), a Shanghai-born, Hong Kong-based actress. He has two children with her as well, Jane (born 2000) and Jada (born 2002).
Jet Li was in the Maldives when the tsunami hit during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. Although it was widely reported at the time that he had died during the disaster,[citation needed] he only suffered a minor foot injury, caused by a piece of floating furniture, while he was guiding his daughter to safety.[4]
Trivia
Believes in Buddhism.
Injured his foot while escaping the tsunami that followed a 9.0 earthquake in the Indian Ocean. Li and his four year old daughter were on vacation in the Maldives on December 26th, 2004. The two were in the lobby of their hotel when the wave came ashore. Scooping up his daughter and running for higher ground, a piece of furniture hit his foot, causing the injury.
According to Li, once, as a child, when the Chinese National Wushu Team went to perform for President Richard Nixon in the United States, he was asked by Nixon to be his personal bodyguard. Li replied, "I don't want to protect any individual. When I grow up, I want to defend my one billion Chinese countrymen!" which earned him much respect in his homeland.[5]
He turned down Chow Yun-Fat's role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon because he promised his wife that he would not make any movies during her pregnancy.[6] He also turned down the role of Seraph in The Matrix trilogy, based on his belief that the role was not one which required his skills and that the films were iconic and stunning enough without adding his name to the cast list.
Over his long career, he has broken a total of 17 bones.[citation needed]
He agreed to do Lethal Weapon 4 after the producer promised to give him the leading role in his next movie, Romeo Must Die.
Jet Li has his own Playstation 2 video game based on him called Jet Li: Rise to Honor.

Hey, hawkman. Welcome back. Love your destination driver explanations, BioBob, but I'll have you know my eyes are still curly and my hair is NOT blue. Oops, got that backwards.
Fascinated with Jet Li, so I needed to look at his face. What a great smile, right?
How about one that Bobby Rydell did by the original.

Sometimes the world is a valley of heartaches and tears,
And in the hustle and bustle, no sunshine appears,
But you and I have our love always there to remind us
There is a way we can leave all the shadows behind us.
Volare, oh, oh!
Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Let's fly way up in the clouds
Away from the maddening crowds
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind
Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find
Volare, oh, oh!
Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings
Your love has given me wings
Your love has given me wings
Volare, oh, oh!
Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Nel blu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassù
Nel biu, dipinto di blu
Felice di stare lassù
