Good morning WA2K listeners and contributors.

Mr. Turtle, I must say that the peyote are succinct in their songs, but they speak for all of us, no?

Searching around for the amerind, folks, I ran across a new vocalist who, just as Diana Krall, seems to love the old ones. The following is by Dianne Reeves:

Softly As In A Morning Sunrise

Softly as in a morning sunrise
The light of love comes stealing
Into a newborn day

Flaming with all the glow of sunrise
A burning kiss is sealing
A vow that all betray

For the passions that thrill love
And take you high to heaven
Are the passions that kill love
And let it fall to hell
So ends the story

Softly as in a morning sunrise
The light that gave you glory
Will take it all away

Softly as in a morning sunrise
The light of love comes stealing
Into a newborn day
Flaming with all the glow of sunrise
A burning kiss is sealing
A vow that all betray

For the passions that thrill love
And take you high to heaven
Are the passions that kill love
And let it fall to hell
So ends the story

Softly as in a morning sunrise
The light that gave you glory
Will take it all away

Softly as it fades away
Softly as it fades away
Softly as it fades away
Softly as it fades away

last evening I had the most wonderful telephone conversation with the number one fan of wa2k Edgarblythe, what a charming man he is, although I am a bit jealous of how much the lady Diane thinks of him.

Well, folks, should we tell the cowboy to whom that Dianne Reeves song was dedicated? Hmmm, perhaps not, but here is another and let's just say it was not from George Bush in Texas. <smile>

You Taught My Heart to Sing
We meet and it begins
The sound of violins
The song of birds high on the wing
You taught my heart to sing

Why does this heart of mine
Feel like a valentine
You smiled and suddenly it's spring
You taught my heart to sing

My heart was an empty shell
Then you came along
Now my heart's a carousel
Filled with song

The miracle of you
Will last my whole life through
You're all I'll keep remembering
You taught my heart to sing

Our Raggedy cannot do her photo's today due to rain and snow fade.

I'll give two birthday pictures, and perhaps the hawkman can make it in later.

From Carole, a wonderful song that holds fond memories for me and I am certain others as well. Also the poem that inspired Alice.

So far away; Doesn't anybody stay in one place any more?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door;
Doesn't help to know you're just time away;
Long ago I reached for you and there you stood;
Holding you again could only do me good;
How I wish I could, but you're so far away

One more song about movin' along the highway;
Can't say much of anything that's new;
If I could only work this life out my way;
I'd rather spend it bein' close to you;

But you're so far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door;
Doesn't help to know you're so far away
Yay-uh-ay-eee; Oh, so far away

Travelin' around sure gets me down and lonely;
Nothin' else to do but close my mind;
I sure hope the road don't come to own me;
Yet so many dreams I've yet to find;

But you're so far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?
It would be so fine to see your face at my door;
And it doesn't help to know you're so far away

Alice Walker's book, The Color Purple, was inspired by Evelyn Hunt's, American haiku.

My Mother Taught Me Purple
My mother taught me purple
Although she never wore it.
Wash-gray was her circle,
The tenement her orbit.
My mother taught me golden
And held me up to see it,
Above the broken molding,
Beyond the filthy street.
My mother reached for beauty
And for its lack she died,
Who knew so much of duty
She could not teach me pride.

Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, where you been so long?
Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, where you been so long?
I been worr'in' 'bout you, baby,
Baby, please come home.

I got a bird that whistles,
I got a bird that sings.
I got a bird that whistles,
I got a bird that sings.
But I ain' a-got Corrina,
Life don't mean a thing.

Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, you're on my mind.
Corrina, Corrina,
Gal, you're on my mind.
I'm a-thinkin' 'bout you, baby,
I just can't keep from crying.

Hey, edgar. Who did that, Texas?

Here's one that Little Richard did and I was reminded of him, folks, because I think he is really funny on a recent commercial:

Keep A Knockin'
Little Richard

Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Come back tomorrow night and try it again

You said you love me and you can't come in
You said you love me and you can't come in (wooooo)
You said you love me and you can't come in
Come back tomorrow night and try it again. (woow)
(instrumental break)

Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
come back tomorrow night and try it again
You said you love me and you can't come in
You said you love me and you can't come in (woooo)
You said you love me and you can't come in
Come back tomorrow night and try it again (wooooo)
(Instrumental break)

Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Keep a knockin' but you can't come in (wooo)
Keep a knockin' but you can't come in
Come back tomorrow night and try it again
You said you love me and you can't come in
You said you love me and you can't come in
You said you love me and you can't come in
Come back tomorrow night and try it again (woooow)

Don't Forbid Me
Pat Boone

[Words and Music by Charles Singleton]

Don't forbid me to hold you tight
A-darlin', don't-a forbid me to hold you tight
Let me hold you in my lovin' arms
'Cause it's cold and I can keep you warm

A-don't-a forbid me to kiss your lips
A-darlin' don't-a forbid me to kiss your lips
Let me kiss you
Please, baby, please
'Cause it's cold and your lips might freeze

Well, there's a strong West wind a-blowin'
And there's a big blue moon above
And, pretty baby, I've been knowin'
You need some heart-warmin' love

So don't-a forbid me to talk sweet talk
A-Darlin' don't-a forbid me to talk sweet talk
Let-a me fill your little heart with fire
'Cause it's cold, so don't forbid my desire

It's so cold (it's so cold)
So don't forbid-a my desire
(Don't forbid my desire)

My word, edgar, I guess Pat is still doing his thing. Thanks for the reminder.

A brief weather report:

8 feet of snow in N.Y., and more coming By WILLIAM KATES, Associated Press Writer
22 minutes ago

MEXICO, N.Y. - Weekend squalls may add to the 8 feet of snow already on the ground. I didn't know there was a Mexico, N.Y.

Well, folks, you know quite contrary February.

Guess we had better do this one by Boone, then:

On a day like today
We pass the time away
Writing love letters in the sand

How you laughed when I cried
Each time I saw the tide
Take our love letters from the sand

You made a vow that you would ever be true
But somehow that vow meant nothing to you

Now my broken heart aches
With every wave that breaks
Over love letters in the sand

[Whistlin']

Now my broken heart aches
With every wave that breaks
Over love letters in the sand

The first record I ever heard somebody call "Rock N Roll" was this, by Kay Starr. By then, I had heard a few other rock songs, such as See Ya Later Aligator, but thought of them as novelty songs, rather than a new strain of music.

Rock And Roll Waltz
Kay Starr

[Words by Roy Alfred and Music by Shorty Allen]

One night I was late
Came home from a date
Slipped out of my shoes at the door
Then from the front room
I heard a jump tune
I looked in and here's what I saw

There in the night
What a wonderful scene
Mom was dancing with Dad
To my record machine
And while they danced
Only one thing was wrong
They were trying to waltz
To a rock and roll song

A-one, two, and then rock
A-one, two, and then roll
They did the rock and roll waltz
A-rock, two, three
A-roll, two, three
It looked so cute to me
I love the rock and roll waltz

A-one, two, and then rock
A-one, two, and then roll
A-one, two, and then jump
It's good for your soul
It's old but it's new
Let's do the rock and roll waltz

There in the night
What a wonderful scene
Mom was dancing with Dad
To my record machine
And while they danced
Only one thing was wrong
They were trying to waltz
To a rock and roll song!

A-one, two, and then rock
A-one, two, and then roll
A-one, two, and then jump
It's good for your soul
It's old but it's new
Let's do the rock and roll waltz
Let's do the rock and roll waltz

Well, edgar, I never cared much for Kay Starr, buddy. I think the first time I ever heard Dinah Washington do jazz, I was really disappointed. I just found out that the woman died of a drug overdose at age 39. Sorta sounds like Anna Nicole Smith, no? Frankly, I didn't know who that lady was until I saw it on the news, and now Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband claims that he may be the father of that little baby.

Anyway, Texas and all, here is a song that Dinah sang that I do like.

Oh, they say some people long ago
Were searching for a diff'rent tune
One that they could croon
As only they can
They only had the rhythm
So they started swaying to and fro
They didn't know just what to use
That is how the blues really began
They heard the breeze in the trees
Singing weird melodies
And they made that the start of the blues

And from a jail came the wail
Of a down-hearted frail
And they played that
As part of the blues
From a whippoorwill
Out on a hill
They took a new note
Pushed it through a horn
'Til it was worn
Into a blue note
And then they nursed it, rehearsed it
And gave out the news
That the Southland gave birth to the blues!

this is goning to be politically incorrect, and i'll probably go straight to hell

but

a song in memory of anna nicole

Big Fat Blonde
Bob Walkenhorst

I want a big fat blonde to hold my hand
To keep this skinny boy from blowing away in the wind
I want a big fat blonde
Ooo-wee!
A big fat blonde
Mama mama mama, keep your skinny girls at home
'Cause this skinny boy wants a big fat blonde

Me and my big fat blonde, we like to fight and scratch
I know I'll be the loser of a wrestling match
With a big fat blonde
Ooo-wee!
A big fat blonde
Mama mama mama, keep your skinny girls at home
'Cause this skinny boy wants a big fat blonde

Well, I'm talking six-foot Swede, 40-30-40
Amazon bombshell, tall, damp, and dirty
Talking six-foot blonde
Hubba-hubba!
Me and J.D. Salinger are sitting on your porch
I want a date with your sister, I'm doing it for
A big fat blonde

Inside everybody there's a big fat blonde
If you don't believe me, take a look around!
Big fat blondes
Everywhere!
Big fat blonde
Mama mama mama, keep your skinny girls at home
'Cause this skinny boy wants a big fat blonde

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

Hey, dj. Being politically correct is like patronizing, right? loved your song, and no one here is offended when we are straight forward

Sr-71 - Politically Correct Lyrics

I don't mean to piss you off with things I might say
But when I try to shut my mouth they come out anyway
When I speak my mind, that's when we connect
But that's not politically correct

Our heads are so filled with thought, we can't use our
imagination
Like a sky so filled with stars, you can't find a
constellation
And everyone's so sensitive to every bad vibration
We're so impressing while we're regressing

There's nothing I believe in more than my own
insignificance
So why does everybody think that my words can make a
difference
I just don't have time to think up every social consequence
I'll just keep on talking you keep applauding

I don't mean to piss you off with things I might say
But when I try to shut my mouth they come out anyway
If you spoke your mind you might feel more connected
Until you get politically corrected

You lean a little to the left or the right but
You can only see what's on your side.
Look a little like a deer in the headlights
A little blind a little hypnotized.
So you conform with the best of intention
Change comes from inside.
After all that's what this country was founded on
Do nothing different just fall in line.

What happened to make us so afraid
You couldn't make a Mel Brooks movie today
I saw Blazing Saddles yesterday

Well, folks, nothing from our Raggedy or our hawkman. Here is a very famous man whose birthday is today.

http://ussr-world.com/museum/Pasternak/boris_pasternak-6.jpg

Boris Pasternak is perhaps best known for his novel Doctor Zhivago.

Here is Lara's theme from the movie.

Somewhere, my love,
There will be songs to sing
Although the snow
Covers the hope of spring.

Somewhere a hill
Blossoms in green and gold
And there are dreams
All that your heart can hold.

Someday we'll meet again, my love.
Someday whenever the spring breaks through.

You'll come to me
Out of the long ago,
Warm as the wind,
Soft as the kiss of snow.

Till then, my sweet,
Think of me now and then.
God, speed my love
'Til you are mine again.

As beautifully as Dr Zhivago was filmed, I became bored enough to sleep through half of it.

Well, edgar, I tried to read the novel but there were so many alternate names for the same characters that I really got confused. The movie helped me to understand the book. <smile>

Film adaptations:

Doctor Zhivago has been adapted for film and stage multiple times.
The most famous by far is the 1965 adaptation by David Lean, starring Omar Sharif and Julie Christie. The film was a huge box-office hit and won several Oscars but was panned by critics; now, however, it is widely considered to be a classic film. The film is faithful to the book in a general sense, with no significant deviations from the general storyline; however, the depictions of several characters and events are noticeably different.

Rollin' Stone
The Fontane Sisters

Rollin' stone
(Nothin' but a rollin')
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be all alone

Rollin' stone
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be all alone

You'll never gather moss
You'll win a love and gain a loss
You will look all around
And that lost love can't be found

Rollin' stone
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be all alone

You're out with one girl tonight
And then you've changed before daylight
Your heart is always in flight
Now ask yourself, is that right

Rollin' stone
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be all alone

When you're old and all alone
With no one to call your own
Maybe then you will see
Just how wrong you can be

Rollin' stone
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be all alone

Don't make your life one big fling
Give wedding bells a chance to ring
Why wait too late, too late
Both candle ends you just don't burn

Rollin' stone (Rollin'stone)
Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be all alone

Rollin' stone, just a rollin' stone
One day you'll be (You'll be) all alone

edgar, I just spent a few minutes looking through the archives for The Fontane Sisters. I simply don't recall them, Texas, but here is one that I found and it's not by Paul Simon. What a surprise, folks.

Artist: The Dixie Hummingbirds Song: Loves Me Like A Rock Lyrics

When I was a little boy
(When I was just a boy)
And the devil would call my name
(When I was just a boy)
I'd say "now who do…
(Who?)
Who do you think you're fooling?"

I'm a concentrated boy
(I'm a concentrated boy)
I'm a singer in a Sunday choir
My mama loves me, she loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
She loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And she loves me
She loves me, loves me, loves me, loves me

When I was grown to be a man
(Grown to be a man)
And the devil would call my name
(Grown to be a man)
I'd say "now who do…
(Who?)
Who do you think you're fooling?"
(Who do you think you're fooling?)

I'm aconsummated man
I can snatch a little purity
My mama loves me, she loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
She loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And she loves me
She loves me, loves me, loves me, loves me

If I was President
(Was the President)
And the Congress called my name
(Was the President)
I'd say "who do…
(Who?)
Who do you think you're fooling?"
(Who do you think you're fooling?)
I've got the Presidential Seal
I'm up on the Presidential Podium
My mama loves me, she loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
And she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And she loves me
She loves me, loves me, loves me, loves me.

I can tell, listeners, this is going to be a weird day. Razz

Here's one that is on my mind this evening:

Ghosts

Sometimes, in the night I feel it
Near as my next breath
and yet, untouchable
Silently the past comes stealing
Like the taste of some forbidden sweet

Along the walls; in shadowed rafters
Moving like a thought through haunted atmospheres
Muted cries and echoed laughter
Banished dreams that never sank in sleep

Lost in love and found in reason
Questions that the mind can find no answers for
Ghostly eyes conspire treason
As they gather just outside the door ...

Every ghost that calls upon us
Brings another measure in the mystery
Death is there
To keep us honest
And constantly remind us we are free

Down the ancient corridors
And through the gates of time
Run the ghosts of days
That we left behind

Down the ancient corridors
And through the gates of time
Run the ghosts of dreams
That we left behind

Sometimes, in the night I feel it
Near as my next breath and yet, untouchable
Silently the past comes stealing
Like the taste of some forbidden sweet

Every ghost that calls upon us
Brings another measure in the mystery
Death is there
To keep us honest
And constantly remind us we are free

Down the ancient corridors
And through the gates of time
Run the ghosts of days
That we left behind
