'Munsters' star Yvonne De Carlo dies
By BOB THOMAS, Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES - Yvonne De Carlo, the beautiful star who played Moses' wife in "The Ten Commandments" but achieved her greatest popularity on TV's slapstick comedy "The Munsters," has died. She was 84.

De Carlo died of natural causes Monday at the Motion Picture & Television facility in suburban Los Angeles, longtime friend and television producer Kevin Burns said Wednesday.

De Carlo, whose shapely figure helped launch her career in B-movie desert adventures and Westerns, rose to more important roles in the 1950s. Later, she had a key role in a landmark Broadway musical, Stephen Sondheim's "Follies."

But for TV viewers, she will always be known as Lily Munster in the 1964-1966 horror-movie spoof "The Munsters." The series (the name allegedly derived from "fun-monsters") offered a gallery of Universal Pictures grotesques, including Dracula and Frankenstein's monster, in a cobwebbed gothic setting.

Yvonne De Carlo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yvonne De Carlo (born Peggy Yvonne Middleton) (September 1, 1922 - January 8, 2007) was a Canadian-born American film and television actress, best known for her role as "Lily Munster" on the 1964-1966 CBS television series The Munsters.

Early life

DeCarlo, the daughter of an ambitious but unsuccessful aspiring actress, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. De Carlo sang in the choir of St Paul's Anglican Church in Vancouver and was taken to Hollywood by her mother at the age of fifteen. She was "Miss Venice Beach" (1938). Unable to find work, they returned to Canada until 1940, when they once again traveled to Hollywood. De Carlo supported herself working in a chorus while trying to find film work. She made her first film appearance in 1941, but could only find bit parts for the next few years. She was a Paramount starlet but the studio apparently signed her mainly for her slight resemblance to Dorothy Lamour as it was common back then for studios to sign lookalikes to their major stars and have them at the studio lest any star get the idea that they couldn't be replaced.

Film career

Her break came in 1945 playing the title role in Salome, Where She Danced. Though not a critical success it was a box office favorite and De Carlo was hailed as an up and coming star. In 1947 she played her first leading role in Slave Girl and then in 1949 had her biggest success. As the female lead opposite Burt Lancaster in Criss Cross, De Carlo played a femme fatale, and her career began to ascend. The 1957 Band of Angels featured her opposite Clark Gable in a civil war story, along with Sidney Poitier and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.

For the next several years, she was constantly working although many of the films failed to advance her career.

Cast in The Ten Commandments (1956) in a leading role (as Moses' wife), De Carlo was part of a major hit. The film was a huge success and De Carlo was among those to be praised for her restrained work.

The Munsters

However, her most famous role that led her to pop culture legacy is of Lily Munster in the cult television series The Munsters (1964 - 1966), which allowed DeCarlo to demonstrate a comic flair that her films had failed to utilize.

Other entertainment activities

DeCarlo performed on Broadway, notably in the role of Carlotta Campion, introducing the song "I'm Still Here" in the Stephen Sondheim musical Follies, of which show she was the last lead female performer to die (having been predeceased by Alexis Smith, Dorothy Collins, Fifi D'Orsay, Ethel B. Colt and Ethel Shutta).

Possessed of a powerful contralto voice, DeCarlo released an LP of standards called Yvonne DeCarlo Sings in 1957. She sang and played the harp on at least one episode of The Munsters.

She also received recognition for her work in various low-budget horror movies, such as The Power, The Seven Minutes, House of Shadows, Sorority House Murders, Cellar Dweller, Mirror, Mirror, Blazing Stewardesses, and American Gothic.

De Carlo worked steadily in both film and television, playing her most recent role in the television production of The Barefoot Executive (1995).

Personal life

She was married to the late stuntman, Bob Morgan, from 1955 to 1968 when they divorced; they had 2 sons, and Morgan had a daughter, Bari, from a previous marriage. De Carlo is a naturalized citizen of the United States.

For her contribution to the motion picture industry, Yvonne De Carlo was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6124 Hollywood Blvd. and a second star at 6715 Hollywood Blvd. for her contribution to television.

Last career appearance and later life

The Power (1968) kept her before the eye of the movie going public. Yvonne's last big screen appearance was in 1993.

According to her former Munsters co-star Butch Patrick, who appeared on the September 25, 2006 edition of the Howard Stern Show, Yvonne De Carlo was then a resident of the Motion Picture & Television Fund's Retirement Home in Woodland Hills, CA.

Thanks, hawkman, for the update. I was trying to recall if "Y-vonne". ( I swear, my childhood friends called her that) was in Salome and I ran across this picture from A thousand and One Nights:

http://www.iranian.com/DariusKadivar/2002/November/1001/Images/belly001A.jpg

For you, Yvonne, with fond memories:

You belong to my heart
Now and forever
Though our love had it's start
Not long ago

Well we were gathering stars
And a million guitars
Played our love song

When I said I love you
Every beat of my heart
Said it too

Was a moment like this
When I first found you
And your eyes threw a kiss
When they met mine

Now we own all the stars
And a million guitars
Are still playing

Now you are a song
And you'll always belong
To my heart

Now you are a song
And you'll always belong
To my heart

She did that, I think, in a movie called Sombrero

That Reminds Me
Della Reese

I hear the sound of music,
Your favorite kind of music.
And that reminds me dear of you.
I see the summer roses,
Your favorite shade of roses
And that reminds me to of you, dear
If I could hear no music,
If there could be no roses
No summer nights to make me
dream as I do.
Perhaps, I might forget you.
But in my heart I know
But I need no reminder to miss you so.

Don't You Know
Della Reese

Don't you know
I have fallen in love with you
For the rest of my whole life through

Don't you know
I was yours from the very day
That you happened to come my way

Can't you see
I'm under your spell
By the look in my eyes
Can't you tell, can't you tell

Now, don't you know
Every beat of my heart keeps crying out
I love you so
Don't you know

Don't you know
Every beat of my heart keeps crying out
I love you so
Don't you know

Good morning, WA2K folks.

edgar, I love that first song you played by Della Reese. I don't know why I know it.

Here's a translation of "You Belong to my Heart" so kindly provided by Pantalones of Mexico. The English translation did not quite fit, but that doesn't matter as he was gracious enough to do this for us.

Solamente una vez
Amé en la vida
Solamente una vez
Y nada más
Una vez nada más
En mi huerto
Brilló la esperanza
La esperanza que alumbra el camino
De mi soledad
Una vez nada más
Se entrega el alma
Con la dulce y total
Renunciación
Y cuando ese milagro realiza
El prodigio de amarse
Hay campanas de fiesta
Que cantan en el corazón

The tune proves to be vaguely familiar, I can almost hum it.

A quick translation back to English from these lyrics

just once
I loved in life
just once
and not one more
once and not more
in my garden
hope has shone
the same hope that lights the way
of my solitude
once and not more
the soul is given
with sweet and total
abnegation
and when that miracle achieves
the Marvel of love
there are festive bells
that sing inside the heart.

Today begins with Spanish songs, listeners, and here's another:

Julio Iglesias:

Yours (Quiéreme mucho)
(Gonzalo Roig Lobo / J. Sherr)

Quiéreme mucho, dulce amor mío
que amante siempre te adoraré
Yo con tus besos y tus caricias
mis sufrimientos acallaré.

Yours till the stars lose their glory
Yours till the bells fail to sing
Yours till the end of life's story
My love to you dear, I'll bring.

Yours in the grey of December
Here, and on far distant shores
I'll never love any one the way I love you
You're my one, for I was born to be just yours.

Yours till the stars lose their glory
Yours till the bells fail to sing
Yours till the end of life's story
My love to you dear, I'll bring.

Yours in the grey of December
Here, and on far distant shores
I'll never love any one the way I love you
You're my one, for I was born to be just yours.

Yours till the stars lose their glory
Yours till the bells fail to sing
Yours till the end of life's story
My love to you dear, I'll bring.

Yours in the grey of December
Here, and on far distant shores
I'll never love any one the way I love you
You're my one, for I was born to be just yours.

Good morning WA2K.

Thought you might like to know that the Mexican song "Solamente Una Vez ", music by Augustin Lara, was introduced as "You Belong To My Heart"( with English words by Ray Gilbert) and sung by Dora Luz in Disney's 1944 movie, "The Three Caballeros". It was a top-selling record by Bing Crosby with Xavier Cugat's orchestra.
Ezio Pinza sang it in his screen debut, "Mr. Imperium", which was retitled "You Belong To My Heart" in Great Britain in 1951. Very Happy

Thinking of Hawaii, listeners.

Chant Text (Hawaiian): Chant Text (English):

O Pele o Pele, bursting forth
O Pele o Pele, moving upward
O Pele o Pele, moving downward
O Pele o Pele, creeping, hiding your big knees

On the Discovery channel last evening, they featured myth busters. One involved the fate of the zepplin, The Hindenburg. The guys who recreate for fun, found out that the derigible burned because of a combination of hydrogen and thermite, the paint that covered the Hindenburg.

Also, folks, they attempted to disprove or prove that one might avoid a crocodile attack if they zig-zagged while running away. They showed footage of the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Fl.

Their advice? Crocodiles don't chase anyone. They lie waiting to ambush a curious viewer. Love it.

Rod Taylor (actor)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Born 11 January 1930
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

Rod Taylor (born Rodney Sturt Taylor on January 11, 1930) is an Australian-born film and television actor. His middle name comes from his great-great grand uncle, Captain Charles Sturt, a famous Australian explorer.

Born in Lidcombe, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, Taylor was the only child of William Sturt Taylor, a steel construction contractor, and Mona Stewart Taylor, a writer of plays and children's books.

He attended Sydney Technical and Fine Arts College before deciding to become an actor after seeing Laurence Olivier in an Old Vic touring production in Australia.

After acquiring radio and stage experience in Australia (his radio work included a stint on Blue Hills), Taylor moved to the United States in 1954, where he became a leading man in feature films of the 1960s and '70s.

Equally adept at light comedy and drama, his best-known films are the 1963 Hitchcock classic The Birds, and the 1960 version of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine. Other films include Sunday in New York (1963), Fate is the Hunter (1964), Young Cassidy (as the young Sean O'Casey, 1965), Darker Than Amber (1970), The Picture Show Man (1977), and Cry of the Innocent (1980).

Personal Life

Married three times, Taylor is the father of statuesque New York City WNBC Channel 4 anchorwoman, Felicia Taylor.

A life-long painter, he has homes in southern California, and in his native Australia.

Naomi Judd
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Naomi Judd (born Diana Ellen Judd on January 11, 1946 in Ashland, Kentucky) is an American country music singer and songwriter.

Together with her daughter, Wynonna Judd, she formed the highly successful singing duo known as The Judds, after ending her career as a nurse. Her second daughter, Ashley Judd, is a film and stage actress.

Naomi first expressed a passion of communication as half of country music's most famous mother/daughter team, The Judds. Their popularity earned them 20 top 10 hits (including 15 #1s) and kept them undefeated for eight consecutive years at all three major country music awards shows. In addition, the duo won 5 Grammys and a vast array of other awards and honors. As a songwriter, Naomi also won a Grammy for "Country Song of the Year" with the Judds' smash hit "Love Can Build A Bridge".

In 1991, after selling over 20 million albums and videos in seven years and at the pinnacle of their career, The Judds' reign came to an abrupt end because Naomi was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, a potentially fatal chronic liver disease that forced her retirement. Their duet ended on a high note when their "Farewell" tour was the top grossing act and their farewell concert was the most successful musical event in cable pay-per-view history.

Naomi has since stepped out of the spotlight to explore paths that have led to new endeavors. Today, she says that she is completely cured of the Hepatitis C virus, and uses the strength of her own experiences as spokesperson for the American Liver Foundation.

In 1991, Naomi created the Naomi Judd Education and Research Fund, using her household name and personal time to raise awareness of the deadly Hepatitis C virus as well as research funds for the American Liver Foundation.

Naomi also expresses her energy on humanitarian activities, social issues and personal growth education. She has spoken at conventions, seminars and high profile summits as well as numerous media awareness campaigns and Capitol Hill hearings.

In November 2005, Naomi began to host a talk show, Naomi's New Morning, on Sunday mornings on the Hallmark Channel. [1]

She is a registered Republican[citation needed], but her daughters are not.

Amanda Peet (born January 11, 1972) is an American actress.

Early life

Peet was born in New York City to Charles Peet (a lawyer) and Penny (a social worker). Her father was a Quaker and her mother was Jewish. Amanda attended Friends Seminary with Liev Schreiber, then studied history at Columbia University, where she auditioned for acting teacher Uta Hagen. During her four-year period of study with Hagen, Peet appeared in the off-Broadway revival of Clifford Odets's Awake and Sing.

Career

Peet's first screen performance was a television commercial for Skittles. Her early roles included a guest starring role on the television series Law & Order. She made her film debut in Animal Room (1995). Peet maintained a steady acting career in relatively obscure indie movies.

Her first major role was as "Jack" in the 1999 TV series Jack & Jill (which aired for two seasons). She also appeared in the eighth season finale of Seinfeld (The Summer of George) as a waitress whom Jerry Seinfeld met. Her character is notable for seemingly dating two men at once: Jerry and her apparent roommate ("dude"), Lyle. Peet's first role in a widely-released feature film came in 2000, with The Whole Nine Yards, elevating her status from supporting actress to lead. That same year, she was voted one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the World by People magazine. Peet was also in the movie Saving Silverman with Jack Black and Steve Zahn.

She also starred in Something's Gotta Give in 2003. Peet played Diane Keaton's daughter and at one point Jack Nicholson's lover.

In 2005, she starred in the play This Is How It Goes, alongside Jeffrey Wright and Ben Stiller. In the same year she also starred in the film A Lot Like Love, with Ashton Kutcher. In February 2006, she was performing in Neil Simon's Broadway production of Barefoot in the Park.

On February 3, 2006, it was announced Peet would be joining the cast of Aaron Sorkin's show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which premiered on NBC on September 18, 2006. She stars alongside Matthew Perry, with whom she worked in The Whole Nine and Ten Yards, and Sarah Paulson, with whom she co-starred in Jack & Jill. In the show, Peet's character Jordan McDeere is the newly appointed president of the NBS.

Personal life

Peet became engaged to actor/writer David Benioff on July 19, 2005, and later acknowledged her mother was helping her plan a Jewish wedding. On September 30, 2006, Peet and Benioff married in New York City. They are expecting their first child sometime in early 2007. Amanda said that she is having a daughter, which she had always wanted.

Trivia

Howard Stern has repeatedly made comments about her alluding to a personal animosity between the two of them. It may have something to do with the time she spent on the set of Whipped with Stern's girlfriend Beth Ostrosky, who had a small role in the film, or the set of the movie she did with Stern's friend and co-worker Fred Norris, called Two Ninas. Some perceived poor treatment of one or both of them could explain their animosity. [citation needed]
During an appearance on the September 27, 2006 episode of Late Show with David Letterman, she revealed a sensitivity to the shape or physical appearance of her thumbs.
In her appearance on Jay Leno show October 20, 2006, she admitted that she learned to drive at the age of 28, when she moved to L.A., and that her first car was an old Toyota Camry. She still drives a Toyota Camry, however, it is a new hybrid model.

Marriage - Part I

Typical macho man married typical good-looking lady and after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:

"I'll be home when I want, if I want and at what time I want and I don't expect any hassle from you. I expect a great dinner to be on table unless I tell you that I won't be home for dinner. I'll go hunting, fishing, boozing and card-playing when I want with my old buddies and don't you give me a hard time about it. Those are my rules. Any comments?"

His new bride said, "No, that's fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex here at seven o'clock every night .whether you're here or not."

(DAMN SHE'S GOOD!)

************************************
Marriage (Part II)

Husband and wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary! The husband yells, "When you die, I'm getting you a headstone that reads: "Here Lies My Wife - Cold As Ever "

"Yeah?" she replies,"When you die, I'm getting you a headstone that reads: "Here Lies My Husband - Stiff At Last"

(HE ASKED FOR IT!)

******************************
Marriage (Part III)

Husband (a doctor) and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table. Husband gets up in a rage and says, "And you are no good in bed either," and storms out of the house.

After some time, he realizes he was nasty and decides to make amends and rings her up. She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated husband says, "What took you so long to answer the phone?"

She says, "I was in bed."

"In bed this early, doing what?"

"Getting a second opinion!"

(YEP, HE HAD THAT ONE COMING, TOO!)

******************************************
Marriage (Part IV)

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievement.

He is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his wife, "Mother of Six" in spite of her objections.

One night, they go to a party. The man decides that it's time to go home and wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well.

He shouts at the top of his voice, "Shall we go home Mother of Six?"

His wife, irritated by her husband's lack of discretion, shouts right back, "Anytime you're ready, Father of Four."

(RIGHT ON, LADY!)

**************************************
Marriage (Part V) The Silent Treatment

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day, he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 am for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 am" He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up."

Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

By the way, Bob, the bio's are brief today, buddy.<alliteration> Razz

Love your duo delights, hawkman. So let this be an object lesson to all married men and women.

Saw Ashley Judd recently in "Kiss the Girls". Is she one of Naomi's daughters?

Although our Raggedy has been here once today with a Disney reminder, we shall await her return with more photo's before commenting further.

And, listeners, while we are waiting:

Love Can Build A Bridge (Live Version)

I'd gladly walk across the desert with no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite of bread I had to eat
I would swim out to save you in your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinking let me show you what love means

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time
Don't you think it's time

I would whisper love so loudly ev'ry heart could understand
That love and only love can join the trials of man
I would give my hearts' desire so that you might see
The first step is to realize that it all begins with you and me

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time
Don't you think it's time

When we stand together, it's our finest hour
We can do anything, (anything)
Anything, (anything)
Keep believin' in the power

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time
Don't you think it's time

Yeah! Yes I do!
Love can build a bidge
Whoa! Love and only love
Between your heart and mine
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Love and only love
Don't you think it's time
Don't you think it's time
Don't you think it's time

Well, Raggedy, those are great photo's as usual. I thought that I had looked at the background carefully. I must do something about these glasses. Razz

Well, folks, we are looking at Rod, Naomi, and Amanda. (not familiar with that lovely lady.)

Soccer George is with us again. Hope he drops in to say, "Hello."

Wonder if edgar got Maggie off the roof?

and that leads me to recall "Fiddler on the Roof."

Song: Tradition

[TEVYE]
Tradition, tradition! Tradition!
Tradition, tradition! Tradition!

[TEVYE & PAPAS]
Who, day and night, must scramble for a living,
Feed a wife and children, say his daily prayers?
And who has the right, as master of the house,
To have the final word at home?

The Papa, the Papa! Tradition.
The Papa, the Papa! Tradition.

[GOLDE & MAMAS]
Who must know the way to make a proper home,
A quiet home, a kosher home?
Who must raise the family and run the home,
So Papa's free to read the holy books?

The Mama, the Mama! Tradition!
The Mama, the Mama! Tradition!

[SONS]
At three, I started Hebrew school. At ten, I learned a trade.
I hear they've picked a bride for me. I hope she's pretty.

The son, the son! Tradition!
The son, the son! Tradition!

[DAUGHTERS]
And who does Mama teach to mend and tend and fix,
Preparing me to marry whoever Papa picks?

The daughter, the daughter! Tradition!
The daughter, the daughter! Tradition!

Ah, well. Oral tradition is big in our family, too.

HELLO!

Hello, it's me I've thought about us for a long, long time
Maybe I think too much but something's wrong
There's something here that doesn't last too long
Maybe I shouldn't think of you as mine

Seeing you
Or seeing anything as much as I do you
I take for granted that you're always there
I take for granted that you just don't care
Sometimes I can't help seeing all the way through

It's important to me that you know you are free
'Cause I never want to make you change for me

Think of me
You know that I'd be with you if I could
I'll come around to see you once in a while
Or if I ever need a reason to smile
And spend the night if you think I should

Well, there he is, folks.

Loved your "Hello" song, George, and remember, don't get that fur in a snit. Razz

From the "Brunch" club:

Don't You (Forget About Me) Lyrics
by Billy Idol

Hey, hey, hey,hey
Watching ooh... yeah

Won't you come see about me?
I'll be alone, dancing and you know it baby

Tell me your troubles and doubts
Giving me everything inside and out, out
Love's strange so real in the dark
Think of the tender things that we were working on

Slow change may pull us apart
I'll get us back together at heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

Will you stand above me?
Look my way and never love me
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down

Would you recognise me?
Call my name or walk on by
Rain keeps falling, rain keeps falling
Down, down, down

Hey, hey, hey, hey
Watching ooh..... yeah

Don't you try and pretend
It's my feeling we'll win in the end
I won't harm you or touch your defenses
Vanity and security

Don't you forget about me
I'll be alone, dancing and you know it baby
Going to take you apart
I'll put us back together at heart, baby

Don't You Forget About Me
Don't Don't Don't Don't
Don't You Forget About Me

As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
Will you call my name?
As you walk on by
(As you walk on by)

Or will you walk on by?
Will you walk away?
Come on - call my name
Come on - call my name
Will you call my name?

I say
La la la...

Will you walk on by?
Would you call my name?
As you walk on by
Would you call my name?
When you walk on by?
Oh yeah
Come on and call my name
As you walk on by
Hey baby call my name!
When you walk on by
Would you call my name
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah....

Treat me like a fool,
Treat me mean and cruel,
But love me.

Break my faithful heart,
Tear it all apart,
But love me.

If you ever go,
Darling, I`ll be oh so lonely
I`ll be sad and blue,
Crying over you, dear only.

I would beg and steal
Just to feel your heart
Beatin` close to mine

Well, if you ever go,
Darling, I`ll be oh so lonely
I`ll be sad and blue,
Crying over you, dear only.

I would beg and steal
Just to feel your heart
Beatin` close to mine

Well, if you ever go,
Darling, I`ll be oh so lonely
Beggin` on knees,
All I ask is please, please love me
Oh yeah
