A poem by another outcast classified as an idiot savant:

by S.E. Shepherd
September 26, 2004

My old man told me long ago,
That I was special, I was gonna go far.
So I packed up all my bags,
And headed down the open road.

The first car that stopped for me
Was a brightly colored van,
With a hippie named Fred,
And a dog named Charlie.
Charlie had told his name to Fred in a dream.

Fred tried to tell me about life
He spoke about love, he told me about carmel,
I asked if I could have bite,
And he left me on the open road.

The next car that stopped for me
Had a pretty young girl.
She said her name was Summer,
But she looked like Autumn.
She was headed out West to become a star.

She laughed and said I was sweet,
She talked about love, I told her about carmel.
She said I was not too bright,
So I left her on the open road.

The station wagon passed me by,
A family stared at me,
A father and a mother
And a couple of children,
They were on vacation, escaping city life.

I guess they were all right,
They had plenty of food; and maybe some carmel.
I watched with the stars all night,
As I headed down the road.

After one week, I got too far,
I took a look around and knew
I couldn't get much further.
I met a motorcycle man,
Who said his name was Stan, and he gave me a ride.

Stan stopped at a bus stop,
He dropped me off, and wished me luck.
I called and talked to my dad,
He said it was time to come home.

Before I boarded the bus,
I got myself food, and a little bit of carmel.
I knew my dad was right;
It was time to come home.

Not Waving but Drowning
Stevie Smith

Nobody heard him, the dead man,
But still he lay moaning:
I was much further out than you thought
And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking
And now he's dead
It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,
They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always
(Still the dead one lay moaning)
I was much too far out all my life
And not waving but drowning.

another poem by Sherman Alexie
Father and Farther

Sometimes, father, you and I
Are like a three-legged horse
Who can't get across the finish line
No matter how hard he tries and tries and tries

And sometimes, father, you and I
Are like a warrior
who can only paint holf of his face
while the other half cries and cries and dries

Now can I ask you, father
If you know how much farther we need to go?
And can I ask you, father
if you know how much farther we have to go?
Father and farther, father and farther, 'til we know
Father and farther, father and farther, 'til we know

Sometimes, father, you and I
Are like two old drunks
Who spend their whole lives in the bars
Swallowing down all those lies and lies and lies

Sometimes, father, you and I
Are like dirty ghosts
Who wear the same sheets every day
As one more piece of us just dies and dies and dies

Sometimes, father, you and i
Are like a tree-legged horse
Who can't get across the finish line
No matter how hard he tries and tries and tries.

I just odered his latest collection of poetry in a very limited edition, type-set and signed. Titled Dangerous Astronomy, 100 of the special edition printed.

As dys and yit discuss Dangerous Astronomy, let's hear a Sunday song from the man in black:

Well, I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playing with a can that he was kicking.
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone frying chicken.
And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost
Somewhere, somehow along the way.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughing little girl that he was swinging.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singing.
Then I headed down the street,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing,
And it echoed through the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

Spanish Harlem Incident

Gypsy gal, the hands of Harlem
Cannot hold you to its heat.
Your temperature's too hot for taming,
Your flaming feet burn up the street.
I am homeless, come and take me
Into reach of your rattling drums.
Let me know, babe, about my fortune
Down along my restless palms.

Gypsy gal, you got me swallowed.
I have fallen far beneath
Your pearly eyes, so fast an' slashing,
An' your flashing diamond teeth.
The night is pitch black, come an' make my
Pale face fit into place, ah, please!
Let me know, babe, I got to know, babe,
If it's you my lifelines trace.

I been wond'rin' all about me
Ever since I seen you there.
On the cliffs of your wildcat charms I'm riding,
I know I'm 'round you but I don't know where.
You have slayed me, you have made me,
I got to laugh halfways off my heels.
I got to know, babe, will I be touching you
So I can tell if I'm really real.

edgar, that is a lovely song, Texas. Well, folks we have covered many ethnic groups today, and that's as it should be. I believe that Bob Dylan denied taking his name from Dylan Thomas, but it really doesn't matter, what matters is the legacy to the world.

Following the nocturne

Lyrics: Christina Aguilera - Harlem's Nocturne
Album: The Diary Of Alicia Keys

(piano)
Drop it
Yeah, yeah
Come in for a minute,
Welcome back
It's just me and you in this room right now
There's so many things that are on my mind
Ah yeah, ah yeah
Sometimes it's hard to say
So I take all I've got
And so I take all I have
And I put it into this
I put it right here in my diary
Can u feel it?
Uh, uh, uh
Take this journey with me

Whatever you have to say, justÂ…

Tell me on a Sunday
Sarah Brightman Lyrics

Don't write a letter when you want to leave
Don't call me at 3 a.m. from a friend's apartment
I'd like to choose how I hear the news
Take me to a park that's covered with trees
Tell me on a Sunday please

Let me down easy
No big song and dance
No long faces, no long looks
No deep conversation
I know the way we should spend that day
Take me to a zoo that's got chimpanzees
Tell me on a Sunday please

Don't want to know who's to blame
It won't help knowing
Don't want to fight day and night
Bad enough you're going

Don't leave in silence with no word at all
Don't get drunk and slam the door
That's no way to end this
I know how I want you to say goodbye
Find a circus ring with a flying trapeze
Tell me on a Sunday please

Don't want to fight day and night
Bad enough you're going
Don't leave in silence with no word at all
Don't get drunk and slam the door
That's no way to end this
I know how I want you to say goodbye

Don't run off in the pouring rain
Don't call me as they call your plane
Take the hurt out of all the pain
Take me to a park that's covered with trees
Tell me on a Sunday please

Try, No theme; no reason; just light; electric light:

Electric Light Orchestra - Midnight Blue Lyrics

I see the lonely road that leads so far away,
I see the distant lights that left behind the day
But what I see is so much more than I can say
And I see you midnight blue.

I see you cryin' now you've found a lot of pain,
And what you're searchin' for can never be the same,
But what's the difference cos' they say what's in a name.
And I see you midnight blue.

CHORUS

I will love you tonight, and I will stay
By your side, lovin' you,I'm feelin' midnight blue.

I see you standing there far out along the way,
I want to touch you but the night becomes the day,
I count the words that I am never gonna say
And I see you midnight blue.

Repeat Chorus

Can't you feel the love that I'm offering you,
Can't you see how it's meant to be,
Can't you hear the words that I'm saying to you,
Can't you believe like I believe,
It's only one and one it's true
Still I see you midnight blue.

I see beautiful days and I feel beautiful ways
Of loving you,everything's midnight blue.

Repeat Chorus

good evening all !
it's a beautiful sunset on lake ontario , and it reminds me of the sun setting on the beach in hawaii Very Happy
so here's a tribute to hawaii : the hawaiin war chant (it's not the spike jones version Sad , but the version performed by hilo hattie
at her show Smile ).

http://hiavps.com/images/1940s_Hawaii/neg_1264_'Hilo_Hattie'_in_1941.jpg

There's a sunny little, funny little melody
That was started by a native down in Waikiki
He would gather a crowd down beside the sea
And together they'd play his gay Hawaiin Chant

Soon the other little natives started singin' it
And the hula hula maidens starting swingin' it
Like a tropical storm that's the way it hit
Funny little gay Hawaiian chant

Ow way tah
Tualan
Me big bad
Fightin' man

Tho it started on an island down Hawaii way
It's as popular in Tennessee or Ioway
If you wander into any cabaret
You will hear this gay Hawaiian chant

Ow way tah
Tualan
Me big bad
Fightin' man

Ah, hamburger, it is quite unusual to hear a war chant done by a German from Canada. <smile>

This is my goodnight song, all:

ALOHA MOON (A Hawaiian Love Song)

In Hawaii under palm trees
As the moon shines high above you
Its aloha moon is shining for you
As the lunar rainbow colors
Blend with valleys down below you
I love you my dear honest I do

As the night draws to a close we say 'aloha'
'Till another day is born with the dawn
Then as shadows fall in evening
I'll be waiting right here for you

Lightwizard, you're an SF fan. did you care for HP Lovecraft at all? some of his stories had SF elements. here's a tune named after an HPL story by the band named after HPL:

The white ship has sailed and left me here again
Out in the mist, I was so near again
Sailing on the sea of dreams
How far away it seems
Sailing upon the white ship

Home through the night here in my darkened room
Sails of white across the misty moon
Floating across the sky
Burning into my eye
Sailing upon the white ship

Out of my mind nothing flows
Alone on the shore, but that's how it goes
Everyone knows
How the wind blows
The white ship

Out of my mind nothing flows
Alone on the shore, but that's how it goes
Everyone knows
How the wind blows
The white ship

The white ship has sailed and left me here again
Out in the mist, I was so near again
Sailing on the sea of dreams
How far away it seems
Sailing upon the white ship
Sailing upon the white ship
Sailing upon the white ship

Good morning, WA2K listeners and contributors.

We would like to welcome Mr. Wizard to our wee station, and hope that he will find the time to give us a movie review, or tell us of his gallery.

Hey, Mr. Turtle. One of our friends at Virginia Beach loved HP Lovecraft, but I can think of nothing at the moment that I have read by him.

What a haunting song. Love it, m.d.

Well, folks. Since I am a lady in the dark, this song seems appropriate:

Lady in the Dark Soundtrack Lyrics

Artist: Lyrics
Song: MY SHIP Lyrics

My ship has sails that are made of silk
The decks are trimmed with gold
And of jam and spice
There's a paradise in the hold
My ship's aglow with a million pearls
And rubies fill each bin
The sun sits high in a sapphire sky
When my ship comes in
I can wait the years till it appears
One fine day one spring
But the pearls and such
They don't mean much
If there's missing just one thing
I do not care if that day arrives
That dream need never be
If the ship I sing
Doesn't also bring
My own true love to me.

We miss our Raggedy and the Hawkman. Hope all is well with them both.

Haven't accepted an offer from any gallery but have contacts from previous gallery colleagues to put together a business plan, present it to investors and open a new gallery. In the meantime, I am free lancing with a gallery in Laguna Beach where I am assisting in the curating of shows and the lighting. I'm also busy with some new lighting contracts.

I'll save the movie reviews for the film forum and try something new.

My favorite Lovecraft is a horror tale, "The Thing On the Doorstep," which still has some sci-fi monster elements. He did approach Poe's finesse with the genre with "The Rats In the Wall."

I think his big sci-fi novel was based on some of the elements of his horror works, "The Colour From Space." Didn't think much of that one as it seemed neither fish nor foul, in the realm of science fantasy (the original designation of sci-fi).

http://www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/thecolouroutofspace.htm

Incidentally, I am planning a visit to the Ackermansion, Forry Ackerman's LA sci-fi museum (he actually coined the term sci-fi inspired by the term hi-fi for high fidelity). I've know Mr. Sci-Fi clear back to my UCLA days and The Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society (they may have eventually changed their name but when science-based fiction became known as science fiction, they kept with tradition).

Thanks, Mr. Wizard, for your detailed information both about your gallery and H.P. I did a run through on Lovecraft's short stories, and found that I had not read a single one. I gave "The Outsider" a quick read and found his expressions of horror to be almost poetry of the arabesque type, just as Poe. What imagery the man used.

Please keep us posted, because our listeners are interested.

If you use the link, there's a complete listing of Lovecraft's work. "The Outsider" is one of the top ten Lovecraft. Of course, my copy of the Necronomicon is now hidden away in a closet.
