"That's All" - Rod Stewart

I can only give you love that lasts forever
And a promise to be near each time you call
And the only heart I own
For you and you alone
That's all,
That's all

I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall
And a love whose burning light
Will warm the winter's night
That's all,
That's all

There are those I am sure who have told you
They would give you the world for a toy
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And a love time can never destroy

If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you'll adore
For now and evermore
That's all,
That's all

If you're wondering what I'm asking in return, dear
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you'll adore
For now and evermore
That's all,
That's all

Mr. Turtle you are such fun. Didn't you ever see My Own Little Idaho? I just woke up one late evening in Virginia to that song and have been entranced with it ever since. Actually, m.d. the megaphone thing had a resurgence of popularity. You are so droll tying in Red River Valley with Rudy. Actually, buddy, River Phoenix played in that movie; odd, no?

Hey, butterfly. Love that song. The vocalists are returning to what they know to be great melodies and lyrics.

Aaah. "Deep Night" was first made popular by the "My time is your time" guy, but I remember it best from the movie "The Helen Morgan Story" in which Gogi Grant dubbed it for Ann Blythe. (Edgar's friend Very Happy ). Helen Morgan was Julie in the Paul Robeson "Show Boat" movie.

Ah, There's our Raggedy with further explanation of Rudy. Thanks, PA, for putting face to name. Well, I suspect we know Sally from the TV series, All in the Family. That show broke all the rules, as did the spin off, The Jefferson's.

And, folks, who doesn't remember Mr. McGregor's Garden.

Hey, Raggedy, What a surprise to find out that Gogi did edgar's friend. Shocked

Several people have recorded this song, but Gogi is the one I recall:

The Wayward Wind

Oh the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And I was born the next of ki-i-in
The next of kin to the wayward wind

In a lonely shack by a railroad track
I spent my younger day-ays
And I guess the sound of the outward-bound
Made me a sla-a-ave to my wanderin' ways

Ahh, the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And I was born the next of kin
Ahh, the next of ki-i-i-in to the wayward wind

Oh I met a girl in a border town
I vowed we'd never par-art
Though I tried my best to settle down
She's now alo-o-o-one with a broken heart

And the wayward wind is a restless wind
A restless wind that yearns to wander
And I was born the next of ki-i-i-in
Ahh, the next of kin to the wayward wind
Ahh, the next of ki-i-i-in to the way-ayward wind
The next of kin to the wayward wind
Ahh, the next of ki-i-i-in to the way-ayward wind [fade]

Happy Hawaii
----------------
Early this morning I drove in the rain
Out to the airport to get on the plane
Hey honololu, we're going to happy hawaii
Alice has been there, she said it was fun
Swimming and surfing, enjoying the sun
Hey honololu, we're going to happy hawaii

After all I've had to go through
I'm making no plans (making no plans oh-ooh)
But i, but I believe love gives me a second chance

Guess I've been working a little too hard
Need a vacation, I'll send you a card
From honololu, a greeting from happy hawaii

It's so exciting, why should I pretend
In a few hours the plane will descend
Hey honololu, we're going to happy hawaii
I can imagine the beach and the sand
Walking with someone and holding his hand
Hey honololu, we're going to happy hawaii

After all I've had to go through
I'm making no plans (making no plans oh-ooh)
But i, but I believe love gives me a second chance, mmm

I've got a feeling the dream will come true
Somebody's waiting and I'll forget you
Hey honololu, we're going to happy hawaii

hey, hamburger. I promise not to play Don Ho. <smile> Did you ever read James Michner's Hawaii? When I was a wee thing, I became a part of every book that I read.

Interesting connection to Hawaii, folks:

Māori
Religion Māori religion, Christianity
Related ethnic groups other Polynesian peoples, Austronesian peoples
Māori is the name of the indigenous people of New Zealand, and their language. The word māori means "normal" or "ordinary" in the Māori language. In legends and other oral traditions, the word distinguished ordinary mortal human beings from deities and spirits. "Māori" has cognates in some other Polynesian languages such as Hawaiian in which the word maoli means native, indigenous, real, or actual. It is also the name of the people and language of the Cook Islands, referred to as Cook Islands Māori.

Raggedy knows that I know this one, but I swear, I am not certain why I know it:

Now is the hour,
When we must say goodbye,
Soon you'll be sailing,
Far across the sea.
While you're away,
Oh, please remember me.
When you return,
You'll find me waiting here.

I think that the trio that I was a part of in middle school did that.

Are you really going to Hawaii? Please find out for me what the expression, "We just sing in our chains like the sea" means.

out on the sea, there is an island
out on the sea, there is a place
out on the sea there's a wave
with the power to save
all the sailors from the dark and the deep

we used to dance in the shadows
under the moon's pale light
away from home and all alone
turning away into the night
and she would shine like a diamond

trapped in a clear crystal ring
and the tears in my eyes
were the stars in the sky
fading away when she would sing

out on the sea, there is an island
out on the sea, there is a place
out on the sea there's a wave
with the power to save
all the sailors from the dark and the deep

Lovely song, dys, but I know you won't tell us from whence it came. Just your style, and we have gotten quite used to it, cowboy.

"trapped in a clear crystal ring." Love that line for some reason.

Poem of the Day:

Crystal Cave : In This Time Of Turmoil

by Salama Shaquana

I would like to share with you a verse from a poem by P.B. Shelley - 'The Clouds' - this verse has sustained me and given me hope and courage when times have been tough.

............
I am the daughter of Earth and Water.
And the nursling of the Sky;
I pass through the pores of the ocean and shores;
I change, but I cannot die.
For after the rain when with never a stain,
The pavilion of Heaven is bare,
And the winds and sunbeams with their convex gleams,
Build up the blue dome of air,
I silently laugh at my own cenotaph,
And out of the caverns of rain,
Like a child from the womb, like a ghost from the tomb,
I arise and unbuild it again.

What ever besets us over the next few weeks, we will arise stronger and more united, Let us pray that commonsense prevails.

Found that one without looking for it. I do believe it's going to be one of those weird days.

Well, turtle, if I sang it in a tiny voice, no one could hear me, here. <smile>

How about a tiny song:

Hey, I'm a cow
I'm curious
Hey, watch me now
I'm furious

Hey, I'm a cow
I'm full of hate
Hey, watch me now
I'm on your plate

How's that, m.d.

Well, folks. In this late afternoon, I am thinking about Richard Wright. I loved the man's writing. Let's hear a haiku or two by him:

I am nobody:
A red sinking autumn sun
Took my name away.

It took five seconds
For the barefoot boy's wet track
To dry on the porch.

From a tenement,
The blue jazz of a trumpet
Weaving autumn mists.

maybe it's just the network i'm connected to, but i haven't been able to google for some time. i hope it's not lost...

Before Lord God made the sea and the land
He held all the stars in the palm of his hand
And they ran through his fingers like grains of sand
And one little star fell alone

Then the Lord God hunted through the wild night air
For the little dark star in the wind down there
And he stated and promised he'd take special care
So it wouldn't get lost again

Now, man don't mind if the stars grow dim
And the clouds blow over and darken him
So long as the Lord God's watching over him
Keeping track how it all goes on

But I've been walking through the night and the day
Till my eyes get weary and my hair turns grey
And sometimes it seems maybe God's gone away
Forgetting the promise that we heard him say

And we're lost out here in the stars
Little stars, big stars
Blowing through the night
And we're lost out here in the stars
Little stars, big stars
Blowing through the night
And we're lost out here in the stars

I'm glad someone else is having search engine problems, Mr. Turtle.

What a unique song/poem, m.d. Yes, lost in the stars. What is it about those points of light that mesmerize us?

Wanted to find a song by Natalie Cole, listeners, but no luck.

Just an interesting point about Richard Wright. His most productive years were when he lived in the South and fought bias and prejudice. When he went to Paris as an expat, he no longer created. If I remember correctly, he died there and his wife placed a copy of Black Boy in his casket, because she said that it was his life.

Well, here is an interesting star song:

The heroine's a hero uprating me to zero
I couldn't hold a candle to you
the hardest part is leaving
this web of love you're weaving
you'veshattered my illusions
I've come to the conclusion
you're gonna do a number on me
I'll never get to heaven with out.

There's a stairway to the stars
yeah but it's a freeway into your arms
there's a stairway to the stars
yeah but it's a freeway
stairway to the stars.

Girls in your condition
they ain't in no position
to do the things you're doing to me
you opened like a flower
you filled my head with power
you boys get avaricious
feeling pretty vicious
so don't you paint your fingers for me
no no you'll never get to heaven with me.

There's a stairway to the stars
yeah but it's a freeway into your arms
there's a stairway to the stars
yeah but it's a freeway
stairway to the stars.

Take the stairways to my heaven
Take the stairways to my heaven
Take the stairways to my heaven
Take the stairways to my heaven

There's a stairway to the stars
yeah but it's a freeway into your arms
there's a stairway to the stars
yeah but it's a freeway
stairway to the stars.

Stairway to the stars
stairway to the stars...

stairway to heaven

Theres a lady whos sure
All that glitters is gold
And shes buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and shes buying a stairway to heaven.

Theres a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook
Theres a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

Theres a feeling I get
When I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

And its whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If theres a bustle in your hedgerow
Dont be alarmed now,
Its just a spring clean for the may queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run
Theres still time to change the road youre on.
And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it wont go
In case you dont know,
The pipers calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How evrything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
