Well, Try. I love Dan Fogelberg, and thanks so much for that particular song.

Good grief, Raggedy. I didn't recognize Malcom in the middle. Razz

Well, Letty will add her Dan to the mix.

As The Raven Flies

I see the raven's made her nest in your eyes
She's got you thinking that her love is a prize
And you'll go under from the wave of her lies
As the raven flies...as the raven flies

She'll bring you stecrets that just never sound true
She'll bring you secrets that were never meant for you
And just as you come round she'll send you back through
She's in love with you...she's in love with you

Darker, darker
Don't let her talk her way into you
Lonely, lonely
You know she's only no good for you
Darker, darker
Don't let her talk her way into you
Lonely, lonely
You know she's only no good for you

I see the raven's made her nest in your eyes
She's got you thinking that her love is a prize
And you'll go under from the wave of her lies
As the raven flies...as the raven flies
As the raven flies...as the raven flies

Hey, Raggedy. Let's make them a combo. How about YitTry. Nice, no? Razz Or we could make it "Tryyit, you'll like it."

Guess what commercial featured that line, folks?

The genius Ray Charles;

Hoverin' by my suitcase, tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night
Heavy rain fallin', seems I hear your voice callin' "It's all right."
A rainy night in Georgia, a rainy night in Georgia
It seems like it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

Neon signs a-flashin', taxi cabs and buses passin' through the night
A distant moanin' of a train seems to play a sad refrain to the night
A rainy night in Georgia, such a rainy night in Georgia
Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

How many times I wondered
It still comes out the same
No matter how you look at it or think of it
It's life and you just got to play the game

I find me a place in a box car, so I take my guitar to pass some time
Late at night when it's hard to rest I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine
(minor scat) But it's a rainy night in Georgia, baby, it's a rainy night in Georgia I
feel it's rainin' all over the world, kinda lonely now And it's rainin' all over the
world

Oh, have you ever been lonely, people?
And you feel that it was rainin' all over this man's world
You're talking 'bout rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin',
rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin', rainin'

hope raggedy & letty like this one by the Cascades Laughing

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
Telling me just what a fool I've been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again

Now the only girl I've ever loved has gone away
Looking for a brand new start
But little does she know that when she left that day
Along with her she took my heart

Rain, please tell me, now does that seem fair
For her to steal my heart away when she don't care
I can't love another, when my heart's somewhere far away

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
Telling me just what a fool I've been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again

Rain, won't you tell her that I love her so
Please ask the sun to set her heart aglow
Rain in her heart and let the love we know start to grow.

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
Telling me just what a fool I've been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again
Oh...listen to the falling rain
Pitter patter pitter patter...oh
Listen, listen to the falling rain
Pitter patter pitter patter...oh
Listen, listen to the falling rain
Pitter patter pitter patter

Hey, cowboy. We all love Ray and Jamie Foxx, too. Great movie, incidentally. That's one of my favorites by Mr. Charles, dys.

Mr. Turtle, not only do Raggedy and I like it. We both know the melody (I am almost certain she does)

Here's one about Georgia that has a fantastic guitar background:

Vickie Lawerence;

He was on his way home from Candletop
Been two weeks gone and he thought he'd stop at Webbs
And have him a drink
'fore he went home to her
Andy Wolloe said Hello
And he said Hi, whats doin', Wo
Said, sit down, I got some bad news, it's gonna hurt
He said, I'm your best friend and you know that's right
But your young bride ain't home tonight
Since you been gone she's been seein' that Amos boy, Seth
Well, he got mad 'n' he saw red
And Andy said, Boy, dontcha lose your head
'Cause to tell ya the truth
I been with her myself

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
'Cause the judge in the towns got bloodstains on his hands

Well, Andy got scared and left the bar
Walkin' on home 'cause he didn't live far
See, Andy didn't have many friends
And he'd just lost him one
Brother thought his wife musta left town
So he went home and finally found
The only thing Papa had left him and that was a gun

And he went off to Andy's house
A-slippin' through the backwoods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for Andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back-porch door
And he saw Andy lyin' on the floor
In a puddle of blood and he started to shake

Well, the Georgia Patrol was a-makin their rounds
So he fired a shot just to flag 'em down
And a big-bellied sheriff grabbed his gun and said "why dya do it"
And the judge said Guilty in a make-believe trial
And slapped the Sheriff on the back with a smile
Said suppers waitin' at home and I gotta get to it

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia
That's the night that they hung an innocent man
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
'Cause the judge in the town's got bloodstains on his hands

Well, they hung my brother before I could say
The tracks he saw while on his way
To Andy's house and back that night were mine
And his cheatin' wife had never left town
And that's one body that'll never be found
See, little sister don't miss when she aims her gun

That's the night that the lights went out in Georgia, oh-oh-aah
That's the night that they hung an innocent man, ah-huh-unh
Well, don't trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer
'Cause the Judge in the towns got bloodstains on his hands

Then, of course, there's one about the devil going to Georgia. Twisted Evil

It makes never no mind what you call me, if it makes you happy…

You Can Call Me Al
Paul Simon lyrics

A man walks down the street
He says why am I soft in the middle now
Why am I soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
Don't want to end up a cartoon
In a cartoon graveyard
Bonedigger bonedigger
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door
Mr. beerbelly beerbelly
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you betty
And betty when you call me
You can call me al

A man walks down the street
He says why am I short of attention
Got a short little span of attention
And wo my nights are so long
Where's my wife and family
What if I die here
Who'll be my role-model
Now that my role-model is
Gone gone
He ducked back down the alley
With some roly-poly little bat-faced girl
All along along
There were incidents and accidents
There were hints and allegations

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you betty
And betty when you call me
You can call me al
Call me al

A man walks down the street
It's a street in a strange world
Maybe it's the third world
Maybe it's his first time around
He doesn't speak the language
He holds no currency
He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
The sound
Cattle in the marketplace
Scatterlings and orphanages
He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
Spinning in infinity
He says amen! and hallelujah!

If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you betty
And betty when you call me
You can call me al
Call me al

(But I ain't going to Georgia.) Laughing

we hope he didn't go to Miss G. Brown

No gal made has got a shade on sweet Georgia Brown
Two left feet but oh so neat, has sweet Georgia Brown
They all sigh and wanna die for sweet Georgia Brown
I'll tell you why, you know I don't lie... much

It's been said she knocks 'em dead when she lands in town
Since she came why it's a shame how she coos 'em down
Fellers she can't get are fellers she ain't met
Georgia claimed her, Georgia named her
Sweet Georgia Brown

Try, I adore that song, because it begins and runs through the philosophical gamut, then ends with a laugh. Thanks to you and Paul for that one, buddy.

Mr. Turtle, that song ought to be dedicated to the folks in our audience who trot the globe since it's the theme song for the Harlem globe trotters.
Thanks, M.D. You know how to pick up a pace. <smile>

You know, folks, the sophisticates such as Freud said it psychologically, but often the old country hymns said basically the same thing without the couch.

From Rote:

Life is like a mountain railroad,
With an engineer that's brave,
You must make the run successful,
From the cradle to the grave.

Watch the curves, the hills the tunnels,
Never falter never fail.
Keep you hand upon the throttle,
And your eye upon the rail.

Blessed savior thou will guide us,
Til we reach that blissful shore,
Where the angels wait to join us,
In that place forever more.

Boy, folks, could Bud and I play that as a duet, and it really swung.

"we hope he didn't go to Miss G. Brown"

Too late, but I…

Ain't Complaining
Status Quo Lyrics

There's nothing left, there's nothing right
There's nothing left, there's nothing right
There's nothing left, right left right
Up down up down up down up down

All right all right
You wind me up, you bring me down
Your reputation is all over the town
So long as you come home to me
I ain't complaining
You fool around, we scream and fight
The way you're treating me, you know it ain't right
But when you're making out with me
I ain't complaining

It ain't no use, you playing it loose
And thinking it don't matter to me
It ain't fair at all
You only have to call my name
and I'll come running to you

All right all right
You're out all night, you sleep all day
When I get home you're going out to play
Oh, woman give me some time and everything's fine
I ain't complaining

You just don't care, we're in a mess
And the company you keep ain't the best
But when you're lying there with me
I ain't complaining

It ain't no use, you playing it loose
And thinking it don't matter to me
It ain't fair at all
You only have to call my name
And I'll come running to you

But when the chips are down
A man can only take so much fooling around
And if you don't come home to me
I'll be complaining

All right
There's nothing left, there's nothing right
Our situation ain't looking too bright
'cause I have taken all I'm gonna take
Without complaining

It ain't no use playing it loose
And thinking it don't matter to me
It ain't fair at all
You only have to call my name
And I'll come running to you

But when the chips are down
A man can only take so much fooling around
And if I don't come home to you
You'll be complaining

All right all right all right all right

Try, you've a way with words, perhaps you can interpret this one for the less verbally endowed. all this devil, railroad, and southern stuff reminded me of it: Confused

I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide;
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side.
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown."
She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around."

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day.
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?"

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.
He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack, my dog."
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man."
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can."

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

Catch a cannon ball now, t'take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time.
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one.
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

Well, Mr. Turtle, I'm incensed. Don't you know that Letty might know? I'm not "complaining" you understand, and even Try got a laugh out of his song.

Frankly, for years I thought that it was "Take a Load off Annie." Razz

I have heard this discussed before, and I think it may have to do with drugs, and sometimes people just write things that mean nothing; however, I invite our man on board to go for it. In the interim, I will see what others have to say.

Drifter's Escape

Oh help me in my weakness, i heard the drifter say
As they carried him from the courtroom an' were takin' him away
My trip hasn't been a pleasant one an' my time it isn't long
An' i still do not know what it was that i've done wrong.

Well the judge he cast his robe aside, a tear came to his eye
"You'd fail to understand'', he said, "Why you must even try ?''
Outside the crowd was stirrin', you could hear it from the door
Inside the judge was steppin' down while the jury cried for more.

"Oh stop that cursed jury'', cried the attendant an' the nurse,
"The trial was bad enough but this is ten times worse''
Just then a bolt of lightnin' struck the courthouse out of shape
An' while everybody knelt to pray, the drifter did escape.

No, Mr. Turtle. I was just being facetious. I heard that song at my sister's place and just listened to the beat.

I was surprised to find this long interp, however:

http://theband.hiof.no/articles/the_weight_viney.html

Did it occur to you that Life's Highway to Heaven may be full of allusions as well?

edgar doesn't care. He just plays that cryptic Bob Dylan and goes on with the broadcast. Love it, Texas.

Actually, here's my thinking on any great piece of music, poetry, or art.
Once the compositions are written, it belongs to the reader to put whatever slant he wants to put on the piece. That's the beauty of being creative.

Expressway To Your Heart
The Soul Survivors

[Written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff]

I've been tryin' to get to you for a long time
Because constantly you been on my mind
I was thinkin' 'bout a shortcut I could take
But it seems like I made a mistake

I was wrong, mmm, I took too long
I got caught in the rush hour
A fellow started to shower
You with love and affection
Now you won't look in my direction

On the expressway to your heart
The expressway is not the best way
At five o'clock it's much too crowded
Much too crowded, so crowded
No room for me (too crowded)
Oh, too crowded

Now there's too many ahead of me
They're all the time gettin' in front of me
I thought I could find a clear road ahead
But I found stoplights instead

I was wrong, baby, I took too long
I got caught in the rush hour
A fellow started to shower
You with love and affection
Come on, look in my direction

On the expressway to your heart
The expressway is not the best way
At five o'clock it's much too crowded
Much too crowded, so crowded
No room for me (too crowded)
Oh, too crowded

Oh, much too crowded
Oh, so crowded

Jean
Oliver

[Written by Rod McKuen]

Jean, Jean, roses are red
All the leaves have gone green
And the clouds are so low
You can touch them and so
Come out to the meadow, Jean

Jean, Jean, you're young and alive
Come out of your half-dreamed dream
And run, if you will
To the top of the hill
Open your arms, bonnie Jean

Till the sheep in the valley
Come home my way
Till the stars
Fall around me and find me alone
When the sun comes a-singin'
I'll still be waitin'

For Jean, Jean, roses are red
And all of the leaves have gone green
While the hills are ablaze
With the moon's yellow haze
Come into my arms, bonnie Jean

(Jean, Jean)
Jean, you're young and alive
Come out of your half-dreamed dream
And run, if you will
To the top of the hill
Come into my arms, bonnie Jean

Jean

La-la-la-la, etc

Ms. Letty, i peeked at that very web page before posting the song. of course, i agree with you about the listener creating the meaning, or in the words of a standard,

I hear music when I look at you
A beautiful theme of every dream I ever knew
Down deep in my heart I hear it play
I can feel it start, then it melts away

I hear music when I touch your hand
A beautiful melody from some enchanted land
Down deep in my heart, I hear it say
"Is this the day?"

I alone have heard this lovely strain
I alone have heard this glad refrain
Must it be forever inside of me?
Why can't I let it go? Why can't I let you know?

Why can't I let you know the song my heart would sing?
Beautiful rhapsody of love and youth and spring
The music is sweet, and the words are true
The song is you
