Wow, edgar, I remember those two. Thanks, Texas, for the song and the info.

Well, folks, since it is Memorial Day, there will be no letters today in our mail box.

Hank Snow, the singing ranger:

No letter today I have waited since dawn
I've waited each day since you have been gone
No letter today all the days are so long
Oh why don't you write I know I was wrong

Just give me one chance please won't you forgive
I'll love you my dear as long as I live
I know it's no use though I hope and I pray
The postman goes by no letter today
[ guitar ]
Just give me one chance...

Okay, Hank, you've got one more chance.

The lady is Annette Bening (Warren's wife Smile and the gentleman is Adrian Paul, another "Highlander".

Annette Bening was born on May 29, 1958 in Topeka, Kansas, the youngest of four children. Her family moved to California when she was young, and she grew up there. She graduated from San Francisco State University and began her acting career with the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, eventually moving to New York where she acted on the stage (including a Tony-award nomination in 1987 for her work in the Broadway play "Coastal Disturbances") and got her first film roles, in a few TV movies.

As is so often the case, her first big-screen role was in a forgettable movie, this one the 1988 Dan Aykroyd vehicle The Great Outdoors (1988). However, her next work on-screen was in Milos Forman's Valmont (1989), a film adaptation of de Laclos's "Les Liaisons Dangereuses." Unfortunately, de Laclos's story had also just served as the source of a more Hollywoodized and successful movie version, Dangerous Liaisons (1988), which had been released the previous year, and Foreman's treatment went little noticed.

Bening's career turned an important corner the following year when she co-starred with Anjelica Huston and John Cusack in Stephen Frears's powerful, entertaining screen adaptation of Jim Thompson's novel The Grifters (1990), and her artful turn as a con artist gained her the first of several Academy award nominations. On the strength of this performance Warren Beatty cast Bening as Virginia Hill, Bugsy Siegel's fiery actress moll, in his Bugsy (1991), the story of Siegel's founding of Las Vegas. Although the movie itself did not fare well, it resulted in a relationship with Beatty which led to Bening's pregnancy and then her marriage to Beatty in 1992 - it was the second marriage for Bening, who had been separated from her first husband since 1986 but did not finalize her divorce until 1991. The couple then collaborated on the extravagant flop Love Affair (1994), though the next year her career rebounded with her turn as Queen Elizabeth in the highly-regarded 1995 production of Richard III (1995). Notable performances have since included an obsessive, pushy real estate agent in American Beauty (1999), and as the eponymous character in István Szabó's screen adaptation of the Maugham novel Being Julia (2004) - both were duly noted by the Academy, with Oscar nominations.

Bening has great poise and screen presence, and at her best can turn in a very strong performance. Although her resume often features long stretches of mediocre productions before the next good part turns up, when it does, it proves worth the wait. Bening has four children with Beatty.

Adrian Paul
Born and raised in London, England, Adrian Paul boasts a colorful background. Born of an Italian mother and a British father, he first became a model, then a dancer and choreographer in Europe. He is well-traveled and speaks English, French, and Italian fluently. In 1985, he left Europe and came to the United States to pursue a dance and modeling career. Even though he had studied Shakespeare and performed in school plays when he was younger, acting was not a focus. Shortly after his arrival in America, he was urged to audition. His first role came on the ABC television series, "The Colbys" as the Russian expatriate ballet dancer, Kolya. This led to a role in the Broadway play "Bouncers" in 1987 and to a guest appearance on the television show "Beauty and the Beast" in 1988. His first film appearance was in the 1989 film "Last Rites" with Tom Berenger. He went on to have a starring role in the Roger Corman film, "Masque of the Red Death", a re-telling of the Edgar Allen Poe tale. He appeared in a regular role in the second season of the television series "War of the Worlds" and made a pilot for CBS Television for a series called "The Owl". In 1992, he was cast in the role that would bring him to the most prominence to date...that of Duncan MacLeod in the syndicated series, "Highlander".

Cracklin Rosie
As recorded by Neil Diamond

Ah, cracklin' Rosie get on board
We're gonna ride till there ain't no more to go, takin' it slow
And Lord don't you know, I'll have me a time with a poor man's lady
Hitchin' on a twilight train
Ain't nothin' here that I care to take along, maybe a song
To sing when I want
Don't need to say please to no man for a happy tune

Oh I love my Rosie child
You got the way to make me happy
You and me we go in style
Cracklin' Rose, you're a store bought women
But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'
So hang on to me girl our song keeps runnin' on
Play it now, play it now, play it now my baby

Cracklin' Rosie make me a smile
And girl if it lasts for an hour, well that's alright
'Cause we got all night, to set the world right
Find us a dream that don't ask no questions, yeah

Oh I love my Rosie child
You got the way to make me happy
You and me we go in style
Cracklin' Rose you're a store bought woman
But you make me sing like a guitar hummin'
So hang on to me girl, our song keeps runnin' on
Play it now, play it now, play it now my baby

Cracklin' Rosie make me a smile
Girl if it lasts for an hour, well that's alright
'Cause we got all night, to set the world right
Find us a dream that don't ask no questions

Dancing In The Moonlight
As recorded by King Harvest

We get it on most every night
And when that moon gets big and bright
It's supernatural delight
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

Dancin' in the moonlight
Everybody's feelin' warm and right
It's such a fine 'n' natch-ral sight
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

Everybody here is outa site
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose, they keep things light
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

Dancin' in the moonlight
Everybody's feelin' warm and right
It's such a fine 'n' natch-ral sight
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

We like our fun, we never fight
You can't dance 'n' stay uptight
They keep things loose, they keep things light
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

Dancin' in the moonlight
Everybody's feelin' warm and right
It's such a fine 'n' natch-ral sight
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

Dancin' in the moonlight
Everybody's feelin' warm and right
It's such a fine 'n' natch-ral sight
Everybody's dancin' in the moonlight.

And That Reminds Me
Della Reese

I hear the sound of music
Your favorite kind of music
And that reminds me dear of you
I see the summer roses
Your favorite shade of roses
And that reminds me to of you, dear

If I could hear no music
If there should be no roses
No summer nights to make me dream as I do
Perhaps, I might forget you
But in my heart I know
That I need no reminder to miss you so

I hear the sound of music
Your favorite kind of music
And that reminds me dear of you
I see the summer roses
Your favorite shade of roses
And that reminds me to of you, dear

If I could hear no music
If there should be no roses
No summer nights to make me dream as I do
Perhaps, I might forget you
But in my heart I know
That I need no reminder to miss you so

Dark Moon
Gale Storm

Dark moon, a way up high up in the sky
Oh, tell me why, oh, tell me why you've lost your splendor
Dark moon, what is the cause your light withdraws
Is it because, is it because I've lost my love

Mortals have dreams of love's perfect schemes
But they don't realize that love will sometimes bring a

Could This Be Magic
The Dubs

Could this be magic
My dear
My heart's all aglow
Could this be magic
Loving you so

Could this be magic
My dear
Having your love
My prayers were answered
So far from above
I thought it would be
Just a memory
To linger my heart in pain
But too much pride
I opened up my eyes
And I'm with you dear once again

Could this be magic
My dear
Having your love
If this is magic
Then magic is mine
Could this be magic
Then magic is mine

Ah, Try and edgar, magic and the moon do go together, no? Love Della Reese, incidentally.

Per Request:

Nana MOUSKOURI Lyrics - No Moon At All

No moon at all

What a night

Even livened bugs empty their light

Stars have disappeared from sight

And there's no moon at all

Don't make a sound it's so dark

Even fido he's afraid to bark

What a perfect chance to park

And there's no moon at all

Should we want atmosphere

For inspiration be one kiss

Will make it clear

That tonight is right

And right from life nights

Interfere

No moon at all

Ah poor boy

This is nothing

Like they told us of

Just to think

We fell in love

There's no moon at all

And there's no moon at all

And there's no moon at all

A little lost in translation, listeners. but I am certain all of you get the idea.

I once had an album of duets between she and H Belafonte. Don't recall what happened to it. Also had a 45 of her rendition of White Rose of Athens. Ditto that little tune.

I have always liked the Everly Brothers, also. Here is my favorite by them.

Devoted To You
The Everly Brothers

Darlin' you can count on me
'Til the sun dries up the sea
Until then I'll always be devoted to you

I'll be yours through endless time
I'll adore your charms sublime
Guess by now you know that I'm devoted to you

I'll never hurt you, I'll never lie
I'll never be untrue
I'll never give you reason to cry
I'd be unhappy if you were blue

Through the years my love will grow
Like a river it will flow
It can't die because I'm so devoted to you

I'll never hurt you, I'll never lie
I'll never be untrue
I'll never give you reason to cry
I'd be unhappy if you were blue

Through the years my love will grow
Like a river it will flow
It can't die because I'm so devoted to you

Those are indeed lovely words.

Dark Lady

As recorded by Cher

The fortune queen of New Orleans
Was brushing her cat in her black limousine
On the back seat were scratches from
The marks of men her fortune she had won
You couldn't see through the tinted glass
She said "Home James" and he hit the gas
I followed her to some darkened room
She took my money, she said "I'll be with you soon".

Dark lady laughed and danced, and lit the candles one by one
Danced to her gypsy music till her brew was done
Dark lady played black magic till the clock struck on the twelfth
She told me more about me than I knew myself.

She dealt two cards, a queen and a three
And mumbled some words that were so strange to me
And then she turned up a two-eyed jack
My eyes saw red but the card still stayed black
She said the man you love is secretly true
To someone else who is very close to you
My advice is that you leave this place
Never come back and forget you ever saw my face.

Dark lady laughed and danced, and lit the candles one by one
Danced to her gypsy music till her brew was done
Dark lady played black magic till the clock struck on the twelfth
She told me more about me than I knew myself.

So I ran home and crawled in my bed
I couldn't sleep because of all the things she said
Then I remembered her strange perfume
And how I smelled it once in my own room
So I sneaked back and caught her with my man
Laughing and kissing till they saw the gun in my hand
The next thing I knew they were dead on the floor
That lady would never turn her card up any more.

Dark lady laughed and danced, and lit the candles one by one
Danced to her gypsy music till her brew was done
Dark lady played black magic till the clock struck on the twelfth
She told me more about me than I knew myself.

edgar, Did the Everly Brothers do "Bye Bye Love?"

Try, your Dark Lady reminds me that Shakespeare dedicated his sonnets to such a person.

THE DARK LADY's COMPLEXION

She first appears in Sonnet 127, immediately after the last sonnet to the Young Man in a preponderance of references to blackness:

"In the old age black was not counted fair
Or if it were, it bore not beauty's name;
But now is black beauty's successive heir,
And beauty slandered with a bastard shame"
The sonnet goes on:
"Therefore my mistress' eyes are raven-black,
Her brow so suited, and they mourners seem"
which resolves that it is the lady's eyes and brow that are black.

Have always been fascinated by that mystery, listeners

Ok, Thanks, edgar.

Did this ever happen to any of you?

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
We've both been sound asleep, wake up, little Susie, and weep
The movie's over, it's four o'clock, and we're in trouble deep
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say "ooh-la-la"
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

I told your mama that you'd be in by ten
Well Susie baby looks like we goofed again
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, we gotta go home

Wake up, little Susie, wake up
Wake up, little Susie, wake up
The movie wasn't so hot, it didn't have much of a plot
We fell asleep, our goose is cooked, our reputation is shot
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie, well

Whatta we gonna tell your mama
Whatta we gonna tell your pa
Whatta we gonna tell our friends when they say "ooh-la-la"
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie
Wake up little Susie

Love it!

We had a local dj who loved the Everly Brothers on Bye Bye Love. Then, when their second hit was Wake Up Little Suzie, he refused to play it, angry because they had quit being country. To me, they sounded essentially the same, however.

As the day winds down, listeners, we must remember Memorial Day, formerl called Decorations Day in America.

For those brave men, living and dead, from whatever country, but especially for my father-my brother-my brother-in-law

To war a brave disillusioned soldier will go
For what reason he doesn't know
To fight in a land so far away
A victory they have to win
So there he will stay
In his hand he holds a gun
