hamburger, dear. I think I feel a tear forming. That song was lovely, and in the back of my mind is "Only a Rose" and "A Sleepy Lagoon". I have been fortunate enough to have the legacy of song from my family.

Hugs to you and your lovely Mrs., but speaking of a sleepy lagoon, I guess I had better say goodnight and try to sleep.

To you and all

From Letty with love.

Well, Good morning, Raggedy. I don't know about you, PA, but Cher should be on canvas, and that kind face of Jimmy.

Well, that old time really does get away, folks, but.....

Artist: Sonny & Cher Lyrics
Song: Beat Goes On Lyrics

CHORUS:
The beat goes on, the beat goes on
Drums keep pounding a rhythm to the brain
La de da de de, la de da de da

Charleston was once the rage, uh huh
History has turned the page, uh huh
The mini skirts the current thing, uh huh
Teenybopper is our newborn king, uh huh

Chorus

The grocery store's the super mart, uh huh
Little girls still break their hearts, uh huh
And men still keep on marching off to war
Electrically they keep a baseball score

Chorus

Grandmas sit in chairs and reminisce
Boys keep chasing girls to get a kiss
The cars keep going faster all the time
Bums still cry "hey buddy, have you got a dime"

Chorus

Good morning folks. I just want to say:

I'm Going Slightly Mad
Words and music by Queen

When the outside temperature rises
And the meaning is oh so clear
One thousand and one yellow daffodils
Begin to dance in front of you - oh dear
Are they trying to tell you something
You're missing that one final screw
You're simply not in the pink my dear
To be honest you haven't got a clue

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - ooh oh
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Oh dear

I'm one card short of a full deck
I'm not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck
I'm not my usual top billing
I'm coming down with a fever
I'm really out to sea
This kettle is boiling over
I think I'm a banana tree
Oh dear

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - uh huh
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Oh dear

Ooh ooh ah ah
Ooh ooh ah ah
I'm knitting with only one needle
Unravelling fast it's true
I'm driving only three wheels these days
But my dear how about you

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened
It finally happened - oh yes
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Just very slightly mad

And there you have it

Well, listeners, there's our Try. Love the song, buddy, and you just reminded me of Napoleon XIV:

They're Coming To Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!

Remember when you ran away
And I got on my knees and begged you
Not to go because I´d go beserk?
WELL,

You left me anyhow and
Then the days got worse and worse
And now you see I´ve gone completely
out of my mind

AND

(chorus 1)
They´re coming to take me away,
Haha, they´re coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To the funny farm
Where Life is Beautiful all the time
And I´ll be happy to see
Those Nice Young Men
In their Clean White Coats
And they´re coming to take me AWAY,
HA HAAAA

You thought it was a joke,
and so you LAUGHED, YOU LAUGHED
When I had said that losing you
Would make me flip my lid,

RIGHT?

You know you laughed.
I HEARD you laugh, you laughed
And laughed and laughed
And then you left,
And now you see I´m Utterly Mad

AND

(chorus 2)
They´re coming to take me away,
Haha, they´re coming to take me away,
Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,
To tha Happy Home with Trees and Flowers
And Chirping Birds and basket weavers
Who sit and smile and
Twiddle their thumbs and toes
And they´re coming to Take me Away,
HAHAAAAAAAAA

I cooked your food,
I cleaned your house,
And this is how you pay me back
For all my kind unselfish loving deeds

RIGHT?

Well, you just wait,
They´ll get you yet,
And when they do, they´ll put you in
the ASPCA, you mangy MUTT,

Laughing

good day , letty !
here is a richard tauber song that , i hope , will make you smile .
since i lived in vienna as a boy for a year and went to visit vienna for three weeks in 2001 (with mrs h) , i really have a soft spot in my heart for vienna - wonderful people and a beautiful city - and lots of music of all kinds , from classical to rock . hbg
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im In Love With Vienna

Every tree in the park
Every leaf on the tree
Waves a welcome to me
When I walk in Vienna

Every tree in the park
Every leaf on the tree
Every star in the sky
Knows that I am in love

I'm in love with Vienna
I'm in love with Vienna
Every sight, every sound on the street
Is sweet and dear to me

I was born in Vienna
I was born in Vienna
With a waltz in my heart
And with a heart that has to sing
Sing about Vienna
Sing about her sights
And sing about her sounds
And sing about her nights
To her and to her life I ever will belong
For I'm a part of her song

I was born in Vienna
I was born in Vienna
With a waltz in my heart
And with a heart that has to sing
Sing about Vienna
Sing about her sights
And sing about her sounds
And sing about her nights
To her and to her life I ever will belong
For I'm a part of - her - song
-------------------------------------
(i'm singing - more like croaking - along !)

ah, hamburger. That is so lovely. I looked and looked for the lyrics to "Only a Rose" and "A Sleepy Lagoon" but could not find them.

I did come across a man by the name of Richard Crooks who sang everything. I was amazed at his contributions, Canada.

Don't ask, folks, because I have no idea where this rose song came from:

You are as sweet as the red rose in June, dear
I love you, adore you, I do.

Each night in love land we'll wander sweetheart,
Telling love's story anew.
Out of the blue sky, a dark cloud came rolling,
Breaking my heart in two.

Don't leave me alone,
'Cause I love only you.
You're the one rose
That's left in my heart.

Stone Cold Crazy
Words and music by Freddie Mercury,Brian May,Roger
Taylor and John Deacon

Sleeping very soundly on a Saturday morning
I was dreaming I was Al Capone
There's a rumour going round
Gotta clear outa town
I'm smelling like a dry fish bone
Here come the law gonna break down the door
Gonna carry me away once more
Never never I never want it anymore
Gotta get away from this stone cold floor
Crazy stone cold crazy you know

Rainy afternoon I gotta blow a typhoon
And I'm playing on my slide trombone
Anymore anymore cannot take it anymore
Gotta get away from this stone cold floor
Crazy stone cold crazy you know

Walking down the street
Shooting people that I meet
With my rubber Tommy water gun
Here come the deputy
He's gonna come and get me
I gotta get me up and run
They got the sirens loose
I ran right outa juice
They're gonna put me in a cell
If I can't go to heaven
Will they let me go to hell?
Crazy stone cold crazy you know

letty :
richard crooks , another singer with a wonderful voice !
found a great website with many pictures - 1,000s ? -
of memorable singers , such as : richard tucker , jan kiepura and the one-and-only fritz wunderlich - we have several cd's and old 78's with his songs . wunderlich died when he was only 36 - he tripped on his shoelaces and fell down the stairs in the castle of a friend ! he was just getting into his prime ...
time for some nice and soothing music ... ebeth and the gang should be arriving within the hour ... cleo and bailey will be keeping us occupied ! even though it's cool and drizzling , we'll try to go out for a walk along lake ontario - cleo will no doubt want to go for a swim , while bailey will be watching from the shore .
take care !

Have a wonderful gathering, hamburger, dogs and all.<smile> thank you for that link. As far as I'm concerned, no tenor has ever topped Enrico Caruso, however. <smile>

Well, folks, a little calmer now, as I realize that there is nothing I can do at the moment.

I did find that "Only a Rose" came from The Vagabond King". That memory must have come from Mamma.

Ah well, guess I'll have to e-mail my sister about "the red rose in June."

What is it about roses? If I remember correctly, a person has that scent before a grand mal seizure.

Time for a poem, methinks:

My love is like a red, red rose
MY love is like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June:
My love is like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till all the seas gang dry.

Till all the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt with the sun:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands of life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only love.
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my love,
Though it were ten thousand mile.

Robert Burns

When the wind blows, you just gotta…

Ride The Wild Wind
Words and music by Queen

Ride the wild wind
Push the envelope don't sit on the fence
(Hey hey hey)
Ride the wind
Live life on the razor's edge
(Hey hey hey)
Gonna ride the whirlwind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me

Get your head down baby (yeah) we're gonna ride tonight
Your angel eyes are shining bright
I wanna take your hand - lead you from this place
Gonna leave it all behind
Check out of this rat race
Ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Gonna ride the wild wind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me

Tie your hair back baby
We're gonna ride tonight (yeah)
We got freaks to the left
We got jerks to the right
Sometimes I get so low - I just have to ride
Let me take your hand
Let me be your guide

Ooh ride the wild wind
(Don't sit on the fence)
(Hey hey hey)
Ride the wild wind
(Live life on the razor's edge)
(Hey hey hey)
Gonna ride the wild wind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me

Yeah ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Ooh ride the wild wind (hey hey hey)
Gonna ride it ride the wild wind
It ain't dangerous - enough for me

Ride the wild wind
Ride the wild wind
(Hey hey hey)
The wild wind
The wild wind

Well, Try, I've done that, buddy. <smile> but thanks for the memory, I think.

Bon Jovi

Wild Is The Wind

I tried to make you happy
Lord knows I tried so hard to be
What you hoped I would be
I gave you what you wanted
God couldn't give you what you need
You wanted more from me
Than I could ever be
You wanted heart and soul
But you didn't know, baby

Wild, wild is the wind
That takes me away from you
Cold is the night without your love
To see me through
Wild, wild is the wind
That blows through my heart

Wild is the wind, wild is the wind
You got to understand, baby
Wild is the wind

You need someone to hold you
Somebody to be there night and day
Someone to kiss your fears away
I just went on pretending
Too weak, too proud, too tough to say
I couldn't be the one
To make your dreams come true
That's why I had to run
Though I need in you, baby

Wild, wild is the wind
That takes me away from you
Cold is the night without your love
To see me through
Wild, wild is the wind
That blows through my heart tonight
That tears us apart

Wild is the wind, wild is the wind
You got to understand, baby
Wild is the wind

Maybe a better man
Will live and die for you
Baby, a better man would never say goodbye to you

Wild, wild is the wind
That takes me away from you
Cold is the night without your love
To see me through
Wild, wild is the wind
That blows through my heart tonight
That tears us apart

Wild is the wind, wild is the wind
You got to understand, baby
Wild is the wind

Wild is the wind

Yes Letty, Caruso was probably the greatest, however, Pavarotti when he was young wasn't too bad either. Neither was Jussi Bjoerling.

But, the main reason I've tuned in this afternoon is to tell Hamburger how much I like Fritz Wunderlich. I heard a record of his played during intermission on a Metropolitan Opera Broadcast last year and immediately purchased 4 of his CDs. He even sings arias from Madame Butterfly and La Boheme - - in German. So sweet.

Another reason I've tuned in is to tell our P.D. that "You're the One Rose" was once a very popular recording by Bing Crosby. The music was written by Lani McIntyre, (Lani and the Hawaiians) who also wrote the following title songs and performed them in the movies:

Dreams of Old Hawaii (1944) .... You're the One Rose (1943) .... Maui Chant (1943) .... and Paradise Isles (1943) ....

I didn't see any of the above movies, but I've still got Bing's record, together with my grass skirt, stashed away somewhere. Very Happy

Don't Try Too Hard
Words and music by Queen

If you're searching out for something
Don't try so hard
If you're feeling kinda nothing
Don't try so hard
When your problems seem like mountains
You feel the need to find some answers
You can leave it for another day
Don't try so hard

But if you fall and take a tumble it won't be far
If you fail you mustn't grumble
Thank your lucky stars
Just savour every mouthful
And treasure every moment
When the storms are raging round you
Stay right where you are

Oh don't try so hard
Oh don't take it all to heart
It's only fools they make these rules
Don't try so hard

One day you'll be a sergeant major
Oh you'll be so proud
Screaming out your bloody orders
Hey but not too loud
Polish all your shiny buttons
Dress as lamb instead of mutton
But you never had to try to stand out from the crowd

Oh what a beautiful world
This is the life for me
Oh what a beautiful world
It's the simple life for me

Oh don't try so hard
Oh don't take it all to heart
It's only fools - they make these rules
Don't try so hard
Don't try so hard
Don't try so hard

the band mentioned in this song plays a tune that i dedicate to our PD and her recent insurance problems

Highway Patrolman
Johnny Cash

My name is Joe Roberts I work for the State
I'm a sergeant out on Perenville barracks No 8
I've always done an honest job honest as I could
Got a brother named Frankie Frankie ain't no good

Ever since we were young kids it's been the same come down
I'd get a call on the short wave Frankie's in trouble downtown
But if it was any other man I'd put him straight away
But sometimes when it's your brother you look the other way

Yeah me and Frankie laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
While the band played The Night Of The Johnstown Flood
I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother should
Man turns his back on his family he ain't no good

Well Frankie went into the army back in 1965
I got a farm deferment settled down took Maria for my wife
But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we's gettin' robbed
Frankie came home in '68 and me I took this job

Yeah me and Frankie laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
While the band played The Night Of The Johnstown Flood
I catch him when he's strayin' teach him how to walk that line
Man turns his back on his family ain't no friend of mine

The night was like any other I got a call bout the quarter of nine
There was trouble at a roadhouse out on the Michigan line
There was a kid on the floor lookin' bad bleedin' hard from his head
There was a girl cryin' at a table it was Frankie she said

I ran out and I jumped in my car then I hit the lights
I must have done about a hundred and ten to Michigan County that night
It was down by the crossroads out bout willow bank
Seen the buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank

Well I chased him through them county roads
Till the sign said Canadian border five miles from here
Pulled over to the side of the highway
And watched his taillights disappear

Yeah me and Frankie laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood
Takin' turns dancin' with Maria
While the band played The Night Of The Johnstown Flood
I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother should
Man turns his back on his family ain't no good

Ah, there's our Try with an admonition not to try too hard. Love it, buddy.

I have an answer for you, incidentally.

And dj, I really have an good reply song for you, so I will begin at the end:

Sting(and the police?)

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night

Roxanne
You don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets for money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne

I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have you to tell just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy

I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again
It's a bad way

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)

and for our Try:

Artist: The Seeds Lyrics
Song: Pushin' Too Hard Lyrics

You're pushin' too hard, uh-pushin' on me
You're pushin' too hard, uh-what you want me to be
You're pushin' too hard about the things you say
You're pushin' too hard every night and day
You're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Well all I want is to just be free
Live my life the way I wanna be
All I want is to just have fun
Live my life like it's just begun
But you're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Well, better listen girl to what I'm tellin' you
You better listen girl, or we are through
You better stop all your foolin' around
Stop your runnin' all over town
'Cause you're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Well I know there's a lotta fish in the sea
I know some would-uh stay by me
So if you don't think I'm gonna try
You better ask yourself the reason why
'Cause you're pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)

Pushin' too hard, pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard, pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard, pushin' too hard
Pushin' too hard on me (too hard)
