Jamaica Farewell

Down the way where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop

But I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Sounds of laughter everywhere
And the dancing girls swaying to and fro
I must declare, my heart is there
Tho' I've been from Maine to Mexico

But I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

Down at the market you can hear
Ladies cry out while on their heads they bear
Ackey rice, salt fish are nice
And the rum is fine any time of year

But I'm sad to say, I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town

La Bamba

Bam, Bam Bamba, Bam, Bam
You were drowning my darling
And I saved you
Dominating the waves with my love for you

Pero arriba y arriba y arriba ire yo no soy
Marinero por ti sere por ti sere
Por ti sere bam, bam bamba bam bam

On the sand you did write
I will always love you
Then the sand blew away
And your love did too

Pero arriba y arriba y arriba ire yo no soy
Marinero por ti sere por ti sere
Por ti sere bam, bam bamba bam bam

Oh, the crab it is said
Walks in reverse
For your true love, my darling
I'd walk on my head

Pero arriba y arriba y arriba ire yo no soy
Marinero por ti sere por ti sere
Por ti sere bam, bam bamba bam bam

Tu estabas ahogando Tu estabas ahogando
Yo te salve domimando Las olas
Domimando las olas por tu querer
pero y'arriba y'arriba per o'arriba y'arriba,
y'arriba ire yo no soy mari nero
Yo no soy Mari re porti sere

Bam, bam, bamba bam, bam

Start Movin' (In My Direction) - Sal Mineo

Can't figure out
What it's all about
You're always on my mind
You never miss
With your sweet kiss
But you leave my heart behind

I wanna you to start movin'
Come on hold me tight
Start movin' in my direction
And let's start our lovin' tonight

Now I declare
My love is there
You are just my speed
I won't behave
'Til I know you crave
My lovin', yes indeed

I wanna you to start movin'
Come on hold me tight
Start movin' in my direction
And let's start our lovin' tonight

You speak-a to me
And I'm weak as a child
You call my name
And it drives me wild
I love you, baby
Can't let you go
And that's why I must let you know

This heart of mine
Ain't worth a dime
Without your love, I'm cold
So if you care
Then please declare
It's me you want to hold

I wanna you to start movin'
Come on hold me tight
Start movin' in my direction
And let's start our lovin' tonight

You speak-a to me
And I'm weak as a child
You call my name
And it drives me wild
I love you, baby
Can't let you go
And that's why I must let you know

This heart of mine
Ain't worth a dime
Without your love, I'm cold
So if you care
Then please declare
It's me you want to hold

I wanna you to start movin'
Come on hold me tight
Start movin' in my direction
And let's start our lovin' tonight

Kiss and a hold me tight
Come on, tonight
Right now, tonight
Let's start our lovin' tonight
Oh, yes
Start our lovin' tonight

Well Friday night was a surprise. Karaoke night and I and a singer from New Jersey were the only singers there. I sang four songs in the first hour. Then other singers started drifting in and it became more normal. This song is to remember the times past.

(When Mickey heard Roy Clark sing the song, "Yesterday When I Was Young," he felt it summed up his life very well. He asked Roy if he would sing it at his funeral.)

Yesterday when I was young

The taste of life was sweet as rain upon my tongue

I teased at life as if it were a foolish game

The way the evening breeze may tease a candle flame

The thousand dreams I dreamed, the splendid things I planned

I always built, alas, on weak and shifting sand

I lived by night and shunned the naked light of day

And only now I see how the years ran away

Yesterday when I was young

So many drinking songs were waiting to be sung

So many wayward pleasures lay in store for me

And so much pain my dazzled eyes refused to see

I ran so fast that time and youth at last ran out

I never stopped to think what life was all about

And every conversation I can now recall

Concerned itself with me, and nothing else at all

Yesterday the moon was blue

And every crazy day brought something new to do

I used my magic age as if it were a wand

And never saw the waste and emptiness beyond

The game of love I played with arrogance and pride

And every flame I lit too quickly, quickly died

The friends I made all seemed somehow to drift away

And only I am left on stage to end the play

There are so many songs in me that won't be sung

I feel the bitter taste of tears upon my tongue

The time has come for me to pay for yesterday when I was young

"Yesterday When I Was Young"

Lyrics by Charles Aznavour

Translated into English by Herbert Kreutzer

Performed by Roy Clark, August 15, 1995, Dallas, Texas

Good morning, WA2K singers. <smile> The sun is filling my studio and it promises to be a lovely day. McTag, I'm assuming that your sir name is a pun on "has no voice"--funny.

You know, listeners, Roy Clark and Kenny Rogers always reminded me of each other, somewhat.

Bob, I think it is fantastic that you hang out and sing with the Karaoke bunch. It's sorta like "sitting in" with a local combo or jazz group.

I am delighted that our station is still on the air, and that we have so many countries represented here.

a kind of morning song from the great bob seger

Travelin' Man
Bob Seger

Up With The Sun, Gone With The Wind,
She Always Said I Was Lazy.
Leavin' My Home, Leavin' My Friends,
Runnin' When Things Get Too Crazy.
Out On The Road, Out 'neath The Stars,
Feelin' The Breeze, Passin' The Cars.

Women Have Come, Women Have Gone,
Everyone Tryin' To Cage Me.
Some Were So Sweet, I Barely Got Free,
Others, They Only Enraged Me.
Sometimes At Night, I See Their Faces,
I Feel The Traces They Left On My Soul.
Those Are The Memories That Made Me A Wealthy Soul.

Travelin' Man, Love When I Can,
Turn Loose My Hand 'cause I'm Goin'.
Travelin' Man, Catch If You Can,
But Sooner Or Lare I'm Goin'.
Travelin' Man ... Travelin' Man, Yes I Am.

Sometimes At Night, I See Their Faces,
I Feel The Traces They Left On My Soul.
These Are The Memories That Made Me A Wealthy Soul.
These Are The Memories That Made Me A Wealthy Soul.

Hey guyz! Just wanted Bob to know that I did my first karaeoke last night! It wasn't as bad as I thought! Me and a good friend did a duet of the song I shall play now! May I introduce to all our lovely listeners Scissor Sisters with Mary:

I love the tone that's in your laugh
Gasping for an extra breath
Waiting for the time to pass.
I believe in days ahead
Don't spend another night alone
Cross and wishing you were dead.

Mary, you shouldn't let 'em make you mad.
You hold the best you can.
And Mary, after all the pain is gone
I'm always gonna live to be your man.

I've had it easy now you see
When I'm down you're always there
Standing by to comfort me
One day we'll go round the world
I'll make the journey so sublime.
I know you're not a travellin' girl.

Mary, you shouldn't let 'em make you mad.
You hold the best you can.
And Mary, after all the pain is gone
I'm always gonna live to be your man.

'Cause I'd give everything I have,
Forget all the things that bring me joy.
If you could have one day
Pure and simple happiness.
Until that moment comes
I'll be here where I've always been
I'm gonna be your friend, 'till the day I die.

Mary you shouldn't let 'em make you mad.
You hold the best you can.
And Mary, after all the pain is gone
I'll always live to be your man.

Great matin, dj.

Good morning, good morning.
We've danced the whole night through,
Good morning, good morning to you.

And here's a song for Sunday.

Ain't it a shame to beat your wife on Sunday,
Ain't it a shame; ain't it a shame.
Ain't it a shame to beat your wife on Sunday,
Ain't it a shame; ain't it a shame,
Ain't it a shame to beat your wife on Sunday,
When you got Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
And you got Thursday, Friday, Saturday, toooooo.

Ain't it a shame to beat your wife on Sunday,
Ain't it a shame.

Don't ask me where that song came from, listeners. Razz

letty, with out even knowing it you've set a challenge for me

i'm going to post a song every day this week with the day in the title

first up the great kris k and sunday morning coming down

Well I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An' I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my brain the night before,
On cigarettes and songs I'd been pickin'.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Cussin' at a can that he was kicking.
Then I crossed the empty street,
'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.

In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin'.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.

Feeling a bit reflective this AM.

Looking Back

-Artist: Nat King Cole
-peak Billboard position # 5 in 1958
-Words and Music by Clyde Otis, Brook Benton, and Belford Hendricks
-also charted by Joe Simon in 1969 at #70

Looking back over my life
I can see where I caused you strife
But I know, oh yes I know
I'd never make that same mistake again

Looking back over my deeds
I can see signs a wise man heeds
And if I just had the chance
I'd never make that same mistake again

Once my cup was overflowing
But I gave nothing in return
Now I can't begin to tell you
What a lesson I have learned

Looking back over the slate
I can see love turned to hate
But I know, oh yes I know
I'd never make that same mistake again

dj, Johnny Cash, right?

Wow! Raggedy. I centered on Nancy Wilson and of course, Sidney. I had no idea that Mr. Tibbs was born in Florida. What an actor. I recall that when he won an academy award and was asked to march in a protest movement, he refused because he didn't want to exploit the oscar in that manner.

Francis, I am guessing that you just pronounced Sidney's name with a French twist. <smile>

A remembrance of Nancy:

Verse:

You're so late coming home from the office,
Did you miss your plane? Were you caught in the rain?
No, don't bother to explain.
Can I fix you a quick martini,
As a matter of fact I'll have one with you,
'Cause to tell you the truth, I've had quite a day, too.

Guess who I saw today, my dear.
I went in town to shop around for something new,
I thought I'd stop and have a bite when I was through,
Then I remembered where I'd parked the car,
There was a most attractive French cafe and bar,
It really wasn't very far.

(bridge)
The waiter showed me to a dark secluded corner,
And as my eyes became accustomed to the gloom,
I saw two people at the bar,
Who were so in love,
Even I could spot it clear across the room.

Guess who I saw today my dear,
I've never been so shocked before,
I stumbled blindly to the door.
They didn't see me passing through.
Guess who I saw today,
Guess who I saw today,
Guess who I saw today,
I saw you.

Wow! I remember it all. What a looker and what a singer, Nancy was.

Wales -- what a gal. Congratulations!.

Sounds like you had a blast. Hope so anyway. My niece Liz runs karaoke for a number of places although she has other people do it. She'll jump in and do it herself if someone can't make it. Anyway last week since today is Chinese New Year one of her places the Medway Lotus wanted to do karaoke tonight during the celebration. So she asked me to come and sing. So off I go again.

To the tune of:

On the road again: Willie Nelson

Just can't wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is makin' music with my friends,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again:
Goin' places that I've never been.
Seein' things that I may never see again,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again,
Like a band of gypsies, we go down the highway.
We're the best of friends,
Insisting that the world be turnin' our way,
And our way:

Is on the road again:
Just can't wait to get on the road again.
The life I love is makin' music with my friends,
And I can't wait to get on the road again.

On the road again,
Like a band of gypsies, we go down the highway.

Confused Let's see, listeners. We need to figure out who is saying what and to whom.

ehBeth, can you explain your reference?

Francis, can you explain your remark?

dj, was that Johnny Cash?

I think Bob was referring to Scissors Sisters.

Well, WA2K is definitely a carousel of color.
