What is Gross Depositional Environment and how it is related to petroleum systems?

Hi.

I am trying to understand the concepts related to Petroleum systems and some materials discusses the concept of "gross depositional environment".

I would like to understand what is "gross depositional environment" and how this notion is related to the notion of "petroleum system".

GDE is the study of a petroleum basin bbefore formation, during, during petroleum formation diqgenesis qnd how it got to be what it looks like now. Its a simple concept but often difficult to interpret. But knowing that others of similar location exist (like diapirs) can result in optimizing "plays"
