Rhode Island Rock ID

I found this specimen about 2 years ago in a grassy area while hiking alone in the woods of rural rhode island. It's about 4x4 inches in an almost rectangular shape, almost completely smooth on the sides and seems to always be cold no matter what. It's not overly big in size but it is heavy about 3 pounds, I've asked other geoligist's and noone has an answer so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time!

find it any where near Bristol or Cranston?
Also, take another picture with a quarter or a half dollar next to it for scale. The newspapers in the bckground dont help.
. You mean some geologists could NOT tell you what they think it is??
Wow, maybe they just wanted to be left alone.

PS, my first guess, from the locales, is, of course high grade COAL

I actually found it in scituate near pippin orchard road about a half mile in the woods in a grass clearing. it Sparks if you hit it with metal so I'm assuming it has some metallic elements. I'll take more pics when I get home today, thanks for your help!

in any case its sedimentary ..It also could be a "bog iron"(try a magnet)

still, from the photo it looks a lot like a coal measure, a pebble that was rolled in stream after it was quarried out
