I have ha a rock in the family for 30 years or so ,
Now I'm looking at it closely, and wonder what it really is .
Its a large piece, like like rose quartz at first glance , but
When looking at it closely , it seems to have a Center of black quartz
Or possibly onyx , on one corner of the black shard sticking out seems to
Have some kind of almost paper formation layering around the black rock
Almost looks like mother of pearl when I flake a little off to look at it
Any ideas ???
@Slimacer,
not without a picture. Quartzes can often have lots of inclusions and some areas of rose quartz pegmatites also have associated deposits of stuff like zircon, tourmaline, or giant "books" of mica crystals (Usually phlogopite or biotite), these types are bronzy and black repectively
@farmerman,
heres inclusions of boulangerite and millerite in a quartz sphere.
