Hands up if you hate Christmas! .. (sorry, edgar!)

Yes, I hate the "yuletide season" with a vengeance! It's an ordeal, every single year! (Edgar's Christmas songs thread just reminded me that it's not too far way. Shocked )

Why?: Because I associate it with family dysfunction & unhappiness. For some reason unhappy families MUST get together & try, try, try to be happy at Christmas! In the case of my own family it never works .... And it can take a week or so to get over the angst of the enforced reunion. Awful! And sad.

For those of you with functional families: I'm happy for you.
Really I am. But for some of us Christmas is an annual ordeal. Sad, isn't it? Rolling Eyes

So what about you?: Is Christmas a joy (lucky you!) or something to be endured? Tell us you stories!

I like xmas..... especially now that we have a younger generation in the family. This will be my nephew's first 'aware' xmas and my niece's 2nd xmas elf (passing out the pressies) xmas.

I never never have enough money to keep up with my siblings (we've all had our bad years), but no one has ever complained. We keep talking about not buying presies for each other (us 4 'kids'), but it never works out that way. Maybe a annual cap on per gift spending.....?

MsOlga, I am very truely saddened that you feel so bummed out about the holiday, but I also understand. We have a bit of that angst around the edges.

there is a perpetual myth among child-welfare workers in the US that Xmas is the single highest day for occurance of child abuse, the actual numbers indicate that the 3 days following xmas are actually the highest days of child abuse incidents. this seems to also be true for depression related suicides.

littlek is bitchin' at me about hijacking threads.

msolga is bitchin' about my appearance.

And, really, I am just not in the mood to talk about Christmas. Not with Thanksgiving so near.

So, I'll bow out graciously and head to the club for a quick swim and then onward to the card club for a few stimulating rounds of poker.

Just a few questions before you vanish , Gus. Are you meeting with your family for Christmas? Are you looking forward to it? Have family Christmases been good for the Gus soul? I truly would love to know!
