What part did Australia play in Viet Nam? Did the troops use any snipers or were he US Army and Marines really the only ones that effective used them... I would think that those from Australia would be pretty good at the sniper thing.
Blimey!
Snipers? No idea.
I bet Adrian or Hinge or someone will know.
you guys had about 35, 000 over there didyou not?
The most that were there at once was about 8,000 or so. All up about 50,000 or so served over about 10 years.
500 dead.
2,500 wounded.
For no good reason....
Anyway, as for snipers. What do you want to know?
just wondering if theywere used... if so how big of an impact they had. what they used...
They were used, but not as much as you guys. We didn't have whole units of them or anything. The SAS get sniper training but usually have more important things to do. Riflemen can train as snipers, they are usually assigned to recconaissance units, and work in two man teams.
I have been trying to find a reference on what type of weapons they used back then but so far no luck.
My guess would be Remington 700's but it is only that... a guess.
Snipers have a bigger reputation than there actual battlefield effectiveness warrants IMO.
i agree with you on that one. i also thank that if a sniper was effective then its something you wouldnt really hear that much about...
