Facebook app crashing

Been using a Samsung s7 edge for the past 2 months. Not had any issues up until a week ago. When I open the app it opens the news feed as normal then crashes straight away and says facebook has stopped working then a box saying open app again or send feedback to Google. Opening app again results in same outcome. However if I get a notification to say I'm tagged in something I can access the app by clicking that notification and everything will work normal until I go back to the news feed.
I've tried reinstalling the app, going to a previous version but it always asks to update before using the app, I've erased the cache and partition cache. I've even done a factory reset on the phone and the problem still remains.
I have noticed that if I can get into the facebook app via a notification then I'm able to log out the app and then log back in again. At that point the app will run with no problems for a short while. However, go back on it later in the day and it crashes again until I'm able to log out

Any ideas what could be wrong?? I'm tempted to say it's a facebook issue but can't find anything on it and I've limited knowledge about android phones (still learning)
