Rainsoft Q2 Motor/CAM Connection

I have a Rainsoft water softener (model AQ744CT) that recently stopped working. This model has the Molon HGM-1701-19 drive motor with a hex shaped CAM shaft. It looks like the motor is no longer connected to the shaft: the motor spins but the shaft does not. I can slide the hex stem off of the motor and I can rotate the stem with the motor off without any resistance. How is the shaft supposed to connect to the motor?

There is a pin going through the shaft and will share under overload
