Aim for the sky but,
never ever play leapfrog,
with a unicorn.

Thanks. Rather direct and plebian, but felt that we needed a change of pace. Can't say that yours was lovely - wrong adjective for something so deep, dank, and serious. But I understood it, completely. And as I said before, I don't understand poetry easily.

hiama, arabesque, dark and deep just as Frost's "woods". I seized upon the line "vertical coffins". What is the theme of your poem?Truly a black beauty.

Ah, sumac. Lovely. Where did you and your friend stay on the Outer Banks? They, too, have a rather dark history in spite of the porpoises.

Letty,

Nice to get some feedback.

Its called the sisters of mercy, its about the black sheep sister of a close knit mining community family. She had been the giving sister, there for everyone when they needed her and she slept the wrong side of the blanket just once and the whole family turned, sort of a DH Lawrence meets Dylan Thomas.

Letty,
We stayed on the sound side of Hatteras Village, and indeed, a very historical and tragic place, in the past. Graveyard of the Atlantic and all of that. Building their houses from timber off of wrecks. The rescue squads, posted all along the beach, much like firehouses, ready to row into the dangerous surf.

As a coastal Floridian, you would LOVE the place.

Hey, Sumac,

I have been there many times. Took the ferry to okracoke; Went half way up the Hatteras Light House; Shocked Tried to swim in that wild ocean, and got my bathing ripped from my body trying to outrun a killer wave. We also went to Manteo and ate soft-shelled crab (yum).

Loved it there. Ever seen the post office at Avon? It's look's like a giant doll house Razz I wrote a poem on the Realm called "The Wild Ponies of Okracoke" to Gen's sketch. If I could find the original, I'd post it here to make this message fit the thread. Embarrassed

Allo, I have been trying to help those poor Senators find a 'Democratic' way out of that filibuster;o))
History in the making, I'm learning a lot, hope the good Senators are ......

how bout an oldie but goodie?

Woe be unto him
who seeks to measure
on a whim
the length of time
allotted him
and so is found
still counting
at the end

Doug

Blue birds with bright orange bellies
Cornbread and buttermilk
A darkened hedgerow on a moonlit night
The hard embrace of a winter wind
The cool spot on the pillow, that quickley fades, in an August furnace
Loves first kiss
Subsequent bliss
First light breaking in my bedroom
Sleeping til, the crack of noon
A fight to the death .... marble game
The recess bell ... ringing too soon
Teachers that can't afford toys
So she takes them, from little boys

Thoughts while just sitting here ..... care to add yours ..... just start typing

Young faces in small places
Rites and rights and writes incongruous
Looking back to see
And only finding me.

Bugs that light in night
Heteronyms and homonyms and homographs ambiguous
Looking up to view
And only finding you.

Green grapes in cracked plates
Rhymes and reams and rosters alliterative
Closing eyes in trust
And finding all of us.
