Do you know any scary or thrilling poems or nursery rhymes? Please share either your original work or something you've read.

I go first. I made this nursery rhyme from "Sit down, You're Rocking the Boat" and changed the words. I made this way back when I was in my senior high school and was just fooling around my friends talking about horror movies and stuff. I am no avid fan of horror movies or even an expert but I introduced the topic of scary children in movies especially when a poem or rhyme was being sang or read since they really convey scary themes. I find this not quite bad but not near any good. Haha.

1st Try:
Sleep now, sleep now
Just rest on the ground
Lay down, lay down
And don't make a sound

Wake up, wake up
There's someone around
Hide now, hide now
Pray you'll never be found

2nd Try:
Sleep now, sleep now
There's no one around
Lay down, lay down
And don't make a sound

Wake up, wake up
They are coming out
Hide now, hide now
Pray you'll never be found

@Yellow Lala,
Round and round the mulberry bush
The monkey chased the weasel
The monkey stopped to pull up his socks
Pop goes the weasel.

Where did the weasel go? He's disappeared, hello, that monkey seems to be in distress.

Good nursery rhyme for little children isn't it?

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Why would anyone want to teach a child to say something like that?

@The Anointed,
Something must have happened on the trip to Botany Bay because that is the most bastardised version of Pop goes the Weasel I’ve ever heard.

There are a few verses, but essentially it’s about how easy it is to fritter away your money on gambling and alcohol.

Half a pound of tuppenny rice,
Half a pound of treacle,

Chorus:
That’s the way the money goes,
Pop goes the weasel

Up and down the city road,
In and out the Eagle,
Chorus

Every time when I go out,
The monkey’s on the table,
Take a stick and knock him off,
Pop goes the Weasel.

@izzythepush,
Then you have lived a very sheltered life young fellow. Here's another, this game was played in primary school 75 years ago that I personally know of.

Oranges and lemons, Say the bells of St. Clement's. You owe me five farthings, Say the bells of St. Martin's. When will you pay me? Say the bells at Old Bailey. When I grow rich, Say the bells at Shoreditch. When will that be? Say the bells of Stepney. I do not know, Says the great bell at Bow. Here comes a candle to light you to bed, And here comes a chopper to chop off your head! Chip chop chip chop the last man is dead.
