Karst: daily transformation from pond to meadow to pond

Last year in Guilin, China, I stumbled on the strangest pond I've ever seen: within hours it transforms into a meadow and then back into a pond. The process repeats itself at least once a day. When the place is a meadow. it is much higher (!) then when it is a pond. Pictures and more details are at http://adventurechina.ca/wp/from-natures-bag-of-tricks-lost-pond-found-meadow/. Who could help me find an answer? Thank you!

@rkraft,
wed need to see what th regional water table rises and falls over some time. Is the cycle due to tides? ground-water pumping? or some other cause.

Hs anyone monitored the water table?
At Yadra Pozza in Yugoslavia , there are several karst ponds that fluctuate in water level due to regional water supply pumping ans it can be calculated in m3 (inflow v outflow /m3)
