Wow, this looks like a great little community. The gems you can find when you are not even treasure hunting Very Happy

I am trying to figure this riddle out and am having a very hard time.

Here it is...

What am I?

My beauty torments
My allure it kills
Torture my specialty
Come what will

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JRM

The vagueness of the riddle is most frustrating.

To me it almost sounds like it could be a line out of a poem...the title being the answer.

I was hoping to get a couple answers before I gave my opinion, but here is my guess.

A Spider Web

Any other ideas? Or do you guys think this is the correct answer?

Spider web? Why would a fly go into a spider web at will........?

My guess is ..... er..... this fish with light-bulbs dangling on its head to attract small fishes. Can't remember what it's called.

Mr reasoning for my answer...

My beauty torments...the beauty of the spider web drives us to investigate further

My Allure it kills....once the web lures in its prey they are caught in its grasp and wait for the inevitable.

Torture my specialty....having to wait for death with no means of escape

Come what will....whatever it catches it catches, it is always ready.

Again, these are only my thoughts out loud.

If I was convinced it was the answer I would not have posted it here.

Hmm.. Quite reasonable if you interpret it that way. Yep.

Flies dont willingly go into a spiders web, but they do into a flower.

How about a Venus fly trap?

Hmmm but then all insect trap plants would fit the description....

Venus fly trap does not fit the last line "come what will"

The venus fly trap actually strikes out at its prey.

Does it? I thought the venus fly trap has this nice smell that attracts the flys and when the flys stand on the slippery... opening it slip and then gulped by the plant.......

Well they do strike out at the critter that lands on them, but only once the critter has triggered it to do so...

The trigger seems to be that the insect needs to irritate 2 or more of the hairs in the traps inner surface of its pod. The pod then automatically snaps out to trap the insect and the digestion process begins.

So in a way it does certainly wait, but in another way it kind of strikes out.

Hmmmm

I still kinda like the web....
