Methyl clathrates are looely attached at specific depth zones and these have often been detached via extra terrestrial and seismic events.
Its not my aea f interest but the Paleo Eocene min has always been a point of study due to several reasons , all of which make sense. Theres been a story of several bolide impact areas(Wiley Poag), q seismic event that "loosened " clathrates [yet the length of time involved seemed to dispell this story].
If youve got any ideas Im a geologist but , like I said, this isnt my area of expertise and Im willing to learn from good sources.
