Been to Hamburg lately? The new concert hall is now finished.

Back in early A2K days, I used to go on and on about architecture and landuse, and I'm still interested but post about all that way less, being lazier than I used to be.

I like it a lot, at first glance quite beautiful; I take it as fitting Hamburg, not that I know since I haven't ever been there. I'll post a photo and hope to read/listen to comments. I can foresee that many might find the look quite weird, not to mention the costs.

@ossobucotemp,
Using this link ...

http://62.206.10.222/local/viewer/cam_inner.html

... you get a live webcam view.

I've seen the building a couple of times while it was constructed (as did e.g. c.i. and the McTags)
And I've seen it before as well

(Constructed in 1963, because the original warehouse was destroyed during the war - photo around 2004)

Around 1900, it looked quite pretty:

@Walter Hinteler,
Wow, that last photo fills in the corners of the reasoning (reasoning I think worked out, just my opinion).

Walter, I'm so glad you saw my thread title - I was hoping. We might have had a short thread about this before, probably by you, some time ago. I seem to remember that corner of the Elb..

@Walter Hinteler,

Do you perceive people there react to the concert hall in clear political groups?
Or, as usual in a lot of places, including here, a mix?

@ossobucotemp,
I know it is supposed to be some grand architecture. To me it looks like something which turned out all wrong. .

@saab,
It is fantastic indoors and thanks to Walter´ pictures one gets a wonderful idea of what it was earlier. Wish the warehouse had a better top on it.

@saab,
So far I like the top, exhilarating at cost, not sure.

I'm interested re the architectural takes and have a lot of reading to catch up on.

The top itself is very interesting - just I do not think it fits on top of a building.
What the costs are concerned - everything like that as airports, tunnels, operas,
museums ends up costing much more than planned.
A tunnel planned for 95 million Swedish crowns ended up 10 times so much - twenty years later when finished. Saving the traveller 10 minutes.
The Opera house in Copenhagen cost US dollar 500 million - donated by a private person.
For prestige buildings there are plenty of money - always been like that since way back in early history. That is why we are able to admire the fantastic art or building from the pyramids to cathedrals, castels and much more.
Concerthalls and operas do have to have a perfect acustic. And that cost.
