Alternatives to the Darien Gap??

Hey,

Anyone got any info on how to get from South to Central America if not going by plane? That is, without being being pillaged and killed through the Darien Gap!

If anyone knows how much it costs to get a boat or whatever and likely length of travel that'd be great, thanks! Ideally coming from Ecuador region.

Nothing relevant in answer to the question, just thought I'd mention that Ecuador is definitely worth visiting! Although it's one of the smallest South American countries it's possible to happily explore for weeks and weeks without getting bored - there's so much to see. I loved it and am returning for another go at it. I WILL conquer Cotopaxi this time!
