I got around to trying the Audio Sync mode with the sample CD disk.

I thought it would be a simplistic thing where the lights flashed in sync with the beat and volume of the sound but it is much more sophisticated than that. The control of the lights is completely independent via an inaudible subcarrier above 19 KHz on the CD which allows some pretty incredible effects. The examples on the disk just barely scratch the surface of what could be done.

The best example on the CD was the one where there was some audible breathing of male & female in the background, suggestive of reaching an orgasm. The explosion of light at the end was pretty neat!

This made me think of what would be possible if instead of the flashing lights of the Proteus glasses you used the full visual effects capability available on a VR headset. Wow! If I were looking to make my next $billion I'd start developing it now.

No, I'm not talking about a porn app.

@Leadfoot,
Leadfoot: what you're doing is way beyond my capabilities since I don't even have a computer. But I applaud your creative efforts.

I'm having to settle for the built-in programs or just put it on the usr mode and set it to a certain hertz setting. I'm not complaining; I love it, especially the mid beta region. It helps me relax, strange as it seems to use a beta setting to relax. Right now I'm mostly using P02 and P04, both similar.

@coluber2001,
Well, I finally got mine about a week ago. Once I figured out how to make it do something, I tried two programs. One was a tranquility and the other was a restfulness. I got a bit impatient with the first, but the restfulness program did induce a state of highly enhanced boredom.

I took peeks at the counter from time to time, and it was kind of odd. It started around 10 and counted down for awhile. Then it started counting up. It never got much beyond 10, and I think I put up with it for much longer than 10 minutes.

Some people have better luck than others.

@coluber2001,
I was just spitballing on the VR possibilities. I'm not going to do it, but somebody no doubt will.

The Audio Sync mode doesn't need a computer, just plug the supplied patch cord between the Proteus and a CD player (have one?) and play the sample disk sent with the Proteus. Select AS on the Proteus mode display.

I still haven't downloaded the program to make your own sessions yet.

@roger,
Other than the 'entertainment' use on things like P00, my main use is when I am tired and need to relax/sleep but my head is buzzing with too many thoughts. Then I use something like P12, 25 or P42. I need a little more dynamic change than most of the sessions have which is why I'm interested in the 'make your own' application that I haven't tried yet.

The simpler relaxation modes like P01 and P02 do exactly the same thing as you found - induce boredom.

I don't think of the proteus as a source of entertainment or amusement and can see how it would be boring in that respect. I use it for meditation to quiet the mind and for focus and concentration, not as distraction.
Leadfoot: I do have a cd player and forgot about the CD included. I'll have to do some experimenting of my own.

After several months of experience with this meditation machine, I'm starting to wonder whether the machine actually produces sympathetic waves in the brain corresponding to the pulse rate of a particular session, or is it simply putting you into a hypnotic trance/relaxation. Either way it seems to work.
Ordinarily, we would think that if we wanted to relax we would put it on a alpha or theta session, but I prefer the beta. Regardless, it works.
