@coluber2001,
Thanks for getting back with the report.

Kind of an odd ball question, but if you use it for sleep, does it shut itself off at some preselected time, or does it just keep putting you to sleep - well, forever.

@roger,
Roger, that's a disturbing scenario. Right out of science fiction. Man lives alone, turns machine on, never wakes up.

Ooooooh! Yet another possible application : )

Ha! Would have to plug it into a UPS to be sure. Power goes off way too often here to risk waking up unexpectedly

These Proteus sessions aren't as powerful as you might think, and they work in a subtle way. I found that they normalize you consciousness more than affect it. For instance, if you're feeling sluggish a energy session could make you feel better, but if you feel good already it won't make you hyper.

As far as the sleep sesssion is concerned, it won't neccessarily put you to sleep, but it may help you sleep better. And it won't change your sleep rhythm. If you're not sleepy at all, it won't put you to sleep.

This Proteus machine is not a magic pill, but it has helped me a lot especially with sexual response. Wheras Viagra works phisiologically, Proteus works neurologically, calming the mind. Remember, the manufacturer makes no claim relating to sexual effects. It was a complete surprise to me.

What surprises me about these mind machines is the lack of information in the media. Nothing even on Dr. oz. I just stumbled onto them online.
What I would like is for people to share their experiences with mind machines on A2k, because there are so many pre-programmed sessions with Proteus alone, not to mention all the other brands.

Had mine for a couple of days now. Yeah, what coluber said but haven't had occasion to notice any sexual side effects.

But Really enhances and expands on the side effects of ethanol and other drugs. That Program Zero Zero, like - wow

@Leadfoot,
So, if I had trouble getting to sleep. Or if I wanted to sleep at a time of day when I don't normally sleep. Would this put me out? Or say if I was sleep deprived but needed to be awake and alert for a few hours, would the beta wave setting make that possible?

@TomTomBinks,
'Put me out' would be overstating it but I have fallen asleep during the day on occasions when all I intended to do was sit down and relax for awhile. It has the effect of distracting or quieting the chaos that is my normal mental state which makes sleep more likely.

Too little time with it to know for sure but I doubt it would be as effective as caffeine to wake you up. I have noticed it does make me more ready to dig into a project, concentrate and get things done after using it in almost all modes. I've gotten a bit lazy lately and this thing helps with that quite a bit.

I haven't had a chance to be sleep deprived since I got it..

@Leadfoot,
Thanks Lead. I'll keep my eye on this thread to see how you guinea pigs fare! I'm interested in this and will probably eventually try one.

@Leadfoot,
I haven't tried the P 0 session. As I understand, it has no set program; everytime it's different. One of my favorites now is P 02; it keeps me energized. If you try it keep your finger on the volume control. Part of it gets so quiet you can't hear, but if you up the volume it sounds like 1000 tiny moths beating their wings in synchrony.

I've had this machine almost 3 months now, and I'm still impressed as it has leveled out my state of mind. I don't use it as much as before, because it's not needed as much, which, I suppose, is a good thing.

Regarding the sex effects, it's not like you're using it and "boing" you have an erection, it somehow just subtlely changes you in the long run, calms you and leaves the body to act and feel naturally. I feel more sexual than I have in a long time, and I'm 73.

I hope you and others keep posting on your experiences and the effects Proteus or any other machine has on you.

@coluber2001,
Yes, the P00 isn't a set program. Just trying to reverse engineering via listening, I'd say that in fairly short intervals, something like every 3 seconds they reload all the sound and visual generating parameters with random values.

It's frantic compared to the normal sessions but strangely appealing and fun. Found myself wanting to run it several times in a row but the software won't let you do that. It always defaults back to P01 when finished (unlike all the others) so you have to advance the session number all the way from 01 to 49 before it will roll over to 00 which then rapidly flashes on & off like a warning or something. Only after doing that can you start P00 again. It's like they were afraid you'd get deranged by it or something so they test you for your ability to press all the buttons correctly before allowing another run.

It's real value is in demonstrating all the possible audio and visual patterns the hardware is capable of. Some are terrific but not used in any of the 49 pre-cooked sessions. I haven't tried it yet but there is a program on their website for download that allows you to orchestrate your own sessions. P00 gives you some fantastic ideas for writing your own. Then you can download them to your user generated sessions on the mind machine.

Yesterday I fell asleep in my chair at 9:00 PM listening to session P42. Was planning just to unwind before going to bed after a draining day with a large group of people (I'm INTJ). Didn't even make it to the end of the session before falling asleep. This is one of my favorites when my head is too wound up with thoughts and can't sleep.

@Leadfoot,
It's strange that you would fall asleep during P 42 one of the wildest, energizing sessions. The same thing has happened to me during similar energizing sessions. Apparently, if you're sleepy, it won't counteract that.
I think there is great potential for helping people with these machines, and I'm amazed by the lack of hard research concerning the long-term effects. It's known that the brain will respond with sympathetic brain waves produced by the machines, but is the effect long-lasting? Can these machines help with depression and drug addiction?

@coluber2001,
It did seem counterintuitive to me too.

I am absolutely amazed at the increase in my productivity after a week or so. I've gotten more done in the last week than in the previous several months, and felt good doing it too. Sleep is better and I haven't needed Benadryl as a sleep aid either. I slept through the night without getting up to piss for the first time in years. It can't all be just placebo effect.

Yes, the lack of any news or medical information about these machines is odd. I'd at least expect some negative press, either knocking them as a hoax or a news piece like "Man tries to kill wife after using Mind Machine". Had to have happened somewhere : )

But I don't want it to cure my addiction to my favorite drug - adrenalin!

I would expect pages of late night a2k spam. I guess male enhancement wins over a good night's sleep every time.

@roger,
My favorite mind machine is called a bed. I know, sounds odd at first but hear me out. Its where you can dream about not needing to wake up for work. There's no better mind machine than that.

@Krumple,
Mine is a place where you lie awake till the alarm goes off. Maybe I should set the alarm for ten minutes after I go to bed? Another great mind machine.
