It took whistling to conflate Britney Spears and Andy Griffith – but the refrain on Spears' ubiquitous single from this summer, "I Wanna Go," does indeed recall of the theme song of Griffith's 1960s classic TV series.

Whistling is also prominent in six other songs currently on Billboard’s charts: "Good Life" by OneRepublic, "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People, "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5, "Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars, "It Girl" by Jason Derulo and "Different" by Ximena Sarinaña.

Ryan Tedder, songwriter and lead singer for OneRepublic, calls the trend nothing less than a “whistle revolution.” Whether haunting or jaunty, whistling can make a song distinctive.

Here are our picks for the 15 best whistling songs of all time.

@ehBeth,
I once sang a funeral mass by myself, such an obedient kid. I am so sorry, the church should have pulled me - I still regret my voice in their funeral - with luck, the organist shut me up.

@roger,
My grandmother taught me to whistle when I was 3 or 4. I was pretty decent at it til my adult teeth came in and I had to relearn it. I'm a pretty good bird song whistler but musical whistling seems to have left me.

This may be repetitive as I've described it here before, no idea when

On ocean front walk in Venice, where we lived; whistling since I've never heard before or since.

I figure he was in our area as a student or prof at the local university.

I am glad I got to hear him. Guy whistled the classics.

Workers used to whistle or sing when working-
Unfortunately it is a forgotten art, now people just listen to their ipod or whatever and life is so much more quiet. Sad ...

I always wanted to be able to whistle like thins. I never have been able to and now it is not "good manners" any more.
My dream was when I am an old woman I could whistle like that after the goodlooking guys.
The dream will never be fullfilled

@saab,
Big Noise from Winnetka was first a Gene Krupa drum solo piece. Heres very relaxed drummer (compared to Krupa or Buddy Rich ), and , of course, the recognizable whistling frames
