What Christian Songs help Brighten your Day?

Reply Thu 30 Sep, 2004 06:33 am
This song puts me in a great mood. No matter how bad my day is, there's always a verse somewhere in this song that lifts me up.

I can't comprehend the number of stars in the sky, yet alone place a name to them. The JOY I'm given knowing w/all the people in the world, He still chose me as someone to love. Smile

Have a Great Day!

Quote:
Chris Tomlin - Indescribable

Indescribable, Uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God.
All powerful, Untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees and we humbly proclaim,
You are amazing God.

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go,
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow?
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light,
Yet conceals it to give us the coolness of night?
None can fathom...

Incomparable, Unchangeable,
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same.
You are amazing God.

I'm not religious, or Christian, but I do consider myself spiritual. This song always makes me smile:

BRIAN ENO - I'LL COME RUNNING (TO TIE YOUR SHOE)

I'll find a place somewhere in the corner
I'm gonna waste the rest of my days
Just watching patiently from the window
Just waiting seasons change, some day
Oh, oh, my dreams will pull you through that garden gate.

I want to be the wandering sailor
We're silhouettes by the light of the moon
I sit playing solitaire by the window
Just waiting seasons change, ah, ah
You'll see, one day, these dreams will pull you through my door
And I'll come running to tie your shoe
And I'll come running to tie your shoe.

I like the old time gospel tunes. Here's one by the Stanley Brothers that always lifts me up.

Harbor Of Love

There's coming a time on the great judgment morning
When the Savior will welcome you home
Will you be prepared for the journey to Heaven
On the great ship that carries God's chosen ones home

Oh the water's so deep (oh the water's so deep)
on the river of Jordan (on the river of Jordan)
And the light shines so bright (and the light shines so bright)
from the Heaven above (from the Heaven above)
And the midnight has passed (and the midnight has passed)
a new day is dawning (in Heaven on high)
Oh the great ship will anchor (oh the great ship will anchor)
in the "Harbor of Love"

If you're wandering in sin away from God's teaching
Won't you ask Him to show you the way
Fall down on your knees in a chapel next Sunday
And meet all your friends up in Heaven some day

Today will be a great day, indeed.
Another great one before I leave for class.

Mercy ME "Psalm 139"

Quote:
You have searched me and you know me
You're familiar with all my ways

You have placed your hand upon me
With such a knowledge I can't attain

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

If I make my bed in the depths
If I go up to the heavens

You are there

If I rise on the wings of the dawn
If I settle on the far side of the sea

Even there your hand will hold me fast
Even there your hand will guide me

You are there

I will sing
Sing a new song
Because you love me

I love hard cuttin' country:

Life is like a mountain railroad
With an engineer that's brave,
You must make, the run successful
From the cradle to the grave.

Watch the curves, the fills the tunnels,
Never falter, never fail
Keep your hand upon the throttle,
And your eye upon the rail.

Blessed savior thou will guide us,
Til we reach that blissful shore,
Where the angels wait to join us,
In that great forever more.

I love playing that on piano while Mr. Letty plays bass.

A sort of spiritual song that I always took to heart:

Jesus And Mama

I made a wish upon a star
I could have a brand new car
Got tired of wishing
So I stole one

Seventeen and knew it all
My dreams were big but my thoughts were small
So many roads somehow I chose
The wrong one

CHORUS
But Jesus and mama always loved me
Even when the devil took control
Jesus and mama always loved me
This I know

I felt tried most all my life
Found new kinds of lows and highs
Never been a husband but I had a lot of wives
To hold me

Headstrong, stubborn, couldn't be told
Like a wild horse that couldn't be rode
A rainbow chaser hungry for gold
And still searchin'

I wish mom could see me now
And how I've turned it all around
Lately I've been going down
The right road

Life's a picture that you paint
With blues and grays and cans of canvas
Heaven knows I'm not a saint
But I know

Whatever song my daughter comes home singing. She was singing me a song she learned in chapel last night when I was tucking her in. Nothing sounds sweeter and makes me feel brighter than hearing my 5 year old sing.

Jo, sometimes I hate leaving my car, too, especially at a repair show. Razz

panz and all, let's do something our Moms used to do!

If I have wounded any soul today,
If I have caused one foot to go astray.
If I have walked in my own willful way,
Dear Lord, forgive

Forgive the sins I have confessed to thee.
Forgive the secret sins I do not see.
Oh, guide me, help me and my teacher be.

Dear Lord, amen.

Oops, just shed a tear of remembrance.

Thanks, Panz and Jo.

In the Presbyterian church, things were a little more "dignified" than in the small Baptist church that I attended, but it doesn't really matter what we believe, it's the inspiration that takes us to the top. In spite of the hurricanes that Florida has had to undergo, I couldn't help but think of this one that my daughter loves:

Creation" Franz Joseph Haydn, 1798

The spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue ethereal sky,
And spangled heavens, a shining frame,
Their great Original proclaim.
Th'unwearied sun, from day to day,
Does his Creator's power display;
And publishes to every land
The work of an almighty hand.

Soon as the evening shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wondrous tale,
And nightly to the listening earth
Repeats the story of her birth:
Whilst all the stars that round her burn,
And all the planets in their turn,
Confirm the tidings as they roll,
And spread the truth from pole to pole.

What though in solemn silence all
Move round this dark terrestrial ball;
What though no real voice or sound
Amidst their radiant orbs be found;
In reason's ear they all rejoice,
And utter forth a glorious voice,
For ever singing as they shine,
"The hand that made us is divine.

The music makes that one soar.

Be Not Afraid

You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety though you do not know the way.
You shall speak your words in foreign lands and all will understand.
You shall see the face of God and live.

Be not afraid. I go before you always.
Come follow me, and I will give you rest.

If you pass through raging waters in the sea, you shall not drown.
If you walk amid the burning flames, you shall not be harmed.
If you stand before the pow'r of hell and death is at your side,
know that I am with you through it all.

Be not afraid. I go before you always.
Come follow me, and I will give you rest.

Blessed are your poor, for the kingdom shall be theirs.
Blest are you that weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh.
And if wicked men insult and hate you all because of me,
blessed, blessed are you!

Be not afraid. I go before you always.
Come follow me, and I will give you rest.

Here with Me - Mercy Me

I long for your embrace
Every single day
To meet you in this place
And see you face to face

Will you show me?
Reveal yourself to me
Because of your mercy
I fall down on my knees

And I can feel your presence here with me
Suddenly I'm lost within your beauty
Caught up in the wonder of your touch
Here in this moment I surrender to your love

You're everywhere I go
I am not alone
You call me as your own
To know you and be known

You are holy
And I fall down on my knees

I can feel your presence here with me
Suddenly I'm lost within your beauty
Caught up in the wonder of your touch
Here in this moment I surrender to your love

I surrender to your grace
I surrender to the one who took my place

I have an album of spirituals by Harry Belafonte: My Lord What a Morning. I've been listening to it since the 60s.
