Can somebody please help me with geology homework on depositional environments. It's multiple choice.
Match the sediment description/rock type with a likely depositional environment.
1. Interbedded siltstone and shale with salt layers above.
2. Deposits of fine- to medium-grained, well-sorted sandstones with large scale crossbedding.
3. Breccia with relatively few clasts in a silty matrix.
4. Very poorly sorted breccia.
5. Interbedded very fine-grained sandstone, siltstone, and claystone/shale.
6. Conglomerate of well-rounded pebbles and sand.
7. Very well-sorted, well rounded quartz sandstone.
8. Very well-sorted, well-rounded quartz sandstone containing marine microfossils.
9. Interbedded, thin layers of limestone and shale.
10. Thin-bedded crystalline limestone/travertine.
A. deltas
B. beaches
C. deep ocean basin
D. glacial till
E. landslide or alluvial fan deposits
F. lake beds or mud flats
G. deserts
H. caves
I. point bars or other stream deposits
J. remains of a dried-up, shallow sea
@Anonymous1811,
I allways hated these "Compare the depositional /empllacement environments by thir rocks"
Im an applied science guy who would have to look these up or give an educated guess , which , in your case would mean that Im able to see rock types that copuld fit 2 or more of these depositional environments and get em wrong. SOOO, I suggest you do what I would have to do(as a licensed geologist/geochemist ). GO TO THE AGI GLOSSARY OF GEOLOGY and look up the words like "flysch" etc and see what the reference says.
