As the title reads, What is the name of the philosopher I am thinking about?

I have heard of the name mentioned here on a2k but I have never paid it the attention that I would like to now. It seems that there is a philosopher that has been in the news lately that has been given the credit for the idea of listen and sharing common ideas that he/she agrees with before sharing a different point of view.

I guess that studies have proven this approach to be more successful than just sharing a different point of view alone.

@reasoning logic,
Really, someone now is just getting credit? Bartender Bob should have TM'd it..

I don't know exactly how far this goes back - documentation wise, but it goes back at least to the humanistic psychologists, maybe even Freud. I guess it depends on exactly what's meant by your question..? It doesn't so natural that it really doesn't seem like something worthy of getting 'credit' for. Am I reading you wrong?

No I think you are reading me correctly but it may not be as obvious to others as it is to you. But yes you are correct it is very obvious to many people but not all.
Maybe what I am suggesting is that we forget the obvious more often than what we realize.

I believe that would necessitate knowing who the philosopher is.

In the meantime, let's just have a quick go at Gogol, Nikolay Gogol, that wonderful author born in the Ukraine who helped in founding 19th century Russian realism. In his own way and by his own right, Gogol was a philosopher. (As are many writers)

I did try googling the question in many different ways but came up with nothing.

I think I may have heard about it on NPR but I am not certain.
Maybe I am wrong but I think they were talking about Pascal's Wager but I was unable to relate it with the search I did.

Not necessarily Stur. For instance one might try "philosopher in news lately"

My apologies for not attempting

@Sturgis,
I thought I shared this earlier but something happened, maybe the mods took it down Not sure why. Maybe because I copied and pasted the article.

Philosophers unlike novelists have no name. If your focusing in one signature you reading poor philosophy. Nature is all the philosophy in the world and some people around the poor translator of a single Universal phenomena. Philosophers do not make realities to have a signature on the paintings they provide...
