Another just out of curiosity question:
Why should a woman avoid reading the last chapter of Salammbo?

The whole of the book is pretty horrifying but the last chapter especially so and it is my view that young ladies who naturally have sensitive dispositions should avoid such things.I have found that my warnings, and I would include 1984,usually arouse avid curiosity and are thus ignored but I have been told by those who did so that they regretted it.But it is there in the world and it is for you to decide.I am not a censor but I do know that the chapter can upset some people. It upset a fair number when it was originally published.Monsieur Flaubert did take a rather dim view of the human race which it is difficult for any realist not to share. It is a fabulous literary feat however for those who like what is known as "gallows humour".
A study of it is a must for budding writers. If you take the trouble you can follow some of Flaubert's thought during the long composition by consulting his collected letters which are very worthwhile anyway.Flaubert is a labyrinth which once you enter can engage the interest for a lifetime. There exists a vast literature about the man.I find him funny but not everybody does.He exhibits that supreme indifference which, for me,is the test of a misspent youth.

I like your Spoonerism. You are getting the idea.

RP's "bub puddy" is good too.We could do with more pub buddies who exhibit the qualities her Spoonerism conjures up in a fertile mind.

There is nothing a teacher likes more than to see his students get the picture and he doesn't mind in the least if they come to match him or even surpass him.

As an exercise try to Spooner the Pythagoras theorem on the tright angled tiangle.I can't manage it yet but I'm working on it.

Thanks for the info, Spendi-.
I'd love to hear the Pathagorean theorem 'spoonerized'! I'm sure if anyone can do it, you can! Are you a professor or something?

Damn! this one doesn't work either.......oh, bother!

Trying again:

Euangle triclidian while Iangle trisosceles........doesn't work as well.

Oh well, maybe I can be granted a little poetic license.

Beginners should not attempt the sunberry strawday. If the Pythaggie was easy I would probably have solved it by now.I think the bottom line will be the "tright angled tiangle" which sounds a fairly interesting proposition with a variation on the poticanuse twit for tat thrown in for fun.

very nice Francis...why didn't 'I think of that?

I declare myself a spooner challenged participant here in Spoonerville and hereby announce that I no longer am required to switch around any letters in order to make a funny. I can write anything I please and never rearrange a thing......unless I decide I want to.

I'm taking my dunce hat, mr professor, and sitting myself permanently in the corner. And I'll only speak when I please.
