Can a delicious meal cooked at home by my mother, who is not a chef, be described as sumptuous? I think it should be scrumptious. In my opinion, only food cooked by a chef of a grand restaurant for a wedding dinner, for example, can be said to be sumptuous.
Am I correct?
Thanks.
@tanguatlay,
Perhaps your mother could not prepare a sumptious meal, but mine definitely could - and did.
Scrumptious refers only to the taste/flavour of the meal.
Sumptious is about the presentation and quality (which may include taste).
@tanguatlay,
Some of the most scrumptious meals I've ever had were home cooked meals. My grandmother's bread pudding taste better than any restaurant. My other grandmother on my dad side made sweet rolls that were delicious and out of this world. I'm still trying to duplicate my dad's sweet potato pie, because none of these restaurants can compare. My mom made mouth watering pepper steak as well as shrimp creole. My great grandmother taught me how to make the best homemade pancakes you will ever taste.
