Hi all, thought I'd chuck in a riddle I saw a while back which I found quite interesting, (as well as fairly difficult!) What better way is there to introduce myself to the board?
Here goes:
These are some of the letters in the alphabet in code form which spell out a well known quote. The question is - What is the code? And what is the rest of the alphabet?
233 322 - 231 221 - 322 312 - 222 322 233 - 233 322 - 231 221
233 211 131 233 - 311 133 - 233 211 221 - 212 333 221 133 233 311 322 222
If anyone gets this I'll be very impressed!
Colin
The speaker was:
211 131 122 332 221 233
The author was:
133 211 131 232 221 133 112 221 131 312 221
Very good! I knew I gave away too many letters!
The question is what is the code?
Have you seen this code before? If so, where?
I think my reply shows that I know the code. If it has a name, I don't know it. I haven't seen it before, but after recognizing the quote, it was easy to fill in the gaps.
so it was hamlet in shakespeare, cool
Answer?
To be or not to be, that is the question?
Or two three or not two three?
Well I guess it was too easy in the end.
If anyone cares it's based on a numerical code used in an old game called Excelsior.
To figure out the code you have to imagine a 3x3x3 cube made up of smaller cubes. Each of these cubes contain one letter, the three digit number represent the coordinates so-to-speak of each letter.
There probably is an easier way of deciphering it, but that is what the code is based on. IMHO it was quite a clever puzzle.
It was easy for anyone with experience in Acrostics... all those two-letter words were the giveaway.
In retrospect it was far too easy. It was the idea of the cubed alphabet code which fascinated me. In the orginal incarnation the letters spelt out things like Dragon Tears, and Black Ice. Much harder to predict.
I'll make the next riddle much harder.
