Police in Fla. shoot caretaker next to autistic man playing in street
Source: CBS
Authorities say a Florida police officer shot and wounded an autistic man's caretaker following reports of a man threatening to shoot himself.
North Miami Assistant Police Chief Neal Cuevas told The Miami Herald that officers responded to the scene Monday to find 47-year-old Charles Kinsey, a therapist who works with people with disabilities, according to WSVN-TV, trying to get his 27-year-old patient back to a facility from where he wandered.
Cuevas says police ordered Kinsey and the patient, who was sitting in the street playing with a toy truck, to lie on the ground. Kinsey lies down and puts his hands up while trying to get his patient to comply. An officer then fired three times, striking Kinsey in the leg, Cuevas said. No weapon was found.
Kinsey's attorney, Hilton Napoleon, provided a cellphone video to the Herald on Wednesday taken moments before the shooting. It shows Kinsey lying in the middle of the street with his hands up, asking the officers not to shoot him, while the autistic man sits next to him, yelling at him to "shut up."
Notice how the media jumps on this and forms their own conclusions before it's even investigated. Since the 911 call stated 'a man with a gun--waving it around-- threatening to kill himself' They had no way of knowing just what he was pointing-a gun or a toy truck. Doubt if they could hear the man yelling about a toy truck.
Considering all that is going on they appeared to follow procedure. That question will be answered one way or another with an investigation.
Did you watch the video? They shot a man laying on the ground with his hands up who had been on the ground with his hands up for several minutes, then cuffed him while he lay there bleeding. If you want to defend the very large number of police who do a great job every day, you have to be able to address those few who violate their oaths to serve and protect.

I doubt he watched it. It's just a kneejerk defense of anything police do.

Apparently, "compliant" would have been if he shot himself, to save the police using up valuable bullets.

And yet the white non-compliant kid didn't get shot.
There is a 5 1/2 minute gap in the video. Once they reconstruct that part the incident should explain itself. The video was edited more than 3 times before it was posted-why?
Gee, snood, you know how mistakes boomerang after somebody flusters over his first big goof! Cut the guy some slack, its not as if he shot a white guy or something!!!!!!!
