My position is based on the fact that people eventually become relaxed and careless, where they ought to be vigilant. Which is why I find getting it off planet an attractive idea. Makes me no difference at all if it could eventually be useful.

@edgarblythe,
It's simple (once we get past the costs):

Space is unimaginably huge

Earth is exceedingly finite

Better the stuff is in space than here on earth.

@maxdancona,

Which isotopes are you talking about, Oralloy, that can be reprocessed back into fuel in a cost effective way?

All of the actinides. Every single unsplit atom is still fuel.

I'm not making claims as to cost effectiveness. It is possible that fresh uranium ore is a cheaper source of fuel than reprocessing in today's market. But if so we should still be storing spent fuel in a manner that lets us access it in the future when reprocessing is cheaper than mining fresh ore.

I'm a hyper genius who will have a better grasp of a subject than a college professor of that subject after only an hour's study. Specifically, my IQ is high enough that in a random selection of 10 million people, I would be the smartest person in that group.

Does it matter though? People are either right or wrong. If they are not as qualified as me, I'll still listen to what they have to say.
