How and why does a thread get to be a featured topic?
How: a number is inserted into the database causing the topic type to be recognized as different.
This is done by the forum guides and moderators.
Why: Simply to feature content relevant to that particular forum, the featured topics stay at the top so they remain visible. If you think a topic merits this just notify the forum guide for that forum.
When does a topic become unfeatured?
Some seem stale - no activity for over six months.
Some that are relatively active hardly seem worthy of being featured.
Send us a note via the Help Desk if you notice topics that you think should be featured or defeatured. I can't promise we will be able to fulfill your request or do it quickly (as you can see, that's not as high a priority as pulling spam or dealing with TOS violations), but we will look into it. Thanks!
