Enid Blyton still a favourite. For you, too?

I adored the Faraway Tree books - and the Naughtiest Girl in the School series (I identified - I mean, I was good at school - but had the naughty one role at home).

The Famous Five and Secret Seven I enjoyed - and I liked George a LOT - but they never really entranced me.

I would not place any of hers amongst my favourites.

I liked the Adventure series too, Rhamag. Jack and Lucy were brother and sister, as were Philip and Dina (?) but they lived together. Jack had a parrot called Kiki and Philip owned various wild animals throughout the series. Dina was a tomboy and Lucy was a wuss who never did anything without Jack. But they were good!

ooh, and the Faraway Tree! They've changed one of the female characters now from Fanny to something else for today's children. Made me chuckle!

Laughing That's funny, travelbug!
Reminds me of the speculation about the real nature of Noddy & Big Ears' relationship!

Indeed! I'm sure there was chemistry between those two... children's books and tv programs are funny when you read/watch them as adults. As a child you don't notice all the connotations. The makers of kids tv must have a right laugh!

Yes. I guess it would be pretty boring for them, otherwise? Very Happy

And then Pat went to deliver his letters... yawn. Yeah, I imagine so. One favourite program of mine featured a crossdressing pink hippo named George. I didn't realise at the time, I thought it was his twin, but no.

Noddy - it's not the reading that causes all those eye troubles - it's the looking through keyholes, I tell you.....

tut tut!

Margo--

I understand there is a fictional Australian 'Noddy', but I have no idea who he/she is.

Noddy and Big Ears are other Enid Blyton characters - meant for younger children. English again.... I think the BBC made televison series of them - (I'm not a child of television, so I'm not sure!)

A Google search found lots of references to audio and video tapes, dvds, etc. but too much of interest, as far as I looked.

Noddy

There was a rumour a few years ago, that Noddy & Big Ears were a little, er ... too close! Shocked None of us, in our innocence, had ever quite seen their relationship in that light before! Laughing

Heehee - tha sounds so odd - since Noddy et al are such quintessentially ENGLISH (not even British - ENGLISH) characters!

I loved some Blyton as a weelowan - the Far Away Tree, some of the Secret Seven and Famous Five - some sort of fairy tale book.

But only as a VERY wee lowan indeed.

The story of Noddy-as-a-name-on-line is long and complicated. I'd glad to see the character whom I assume is a bit of a domesticated Puck?

Perhaps highly domesticated?

My BigEars is a black bear with a sweet tooth. I haven't seen him this year, but I haven't really missed him. I haven't filled the feeders, either.

One of these days I'm going to call up Amazon UK and order an Enid Blyton book.
