Edit [Moderator]: Moved from General to Philosophy & Debate.

I read today in the Guardian that China will have to import food from aboard because they built factories etc etc on the land that produced their food.

Do you think humanity is beginning to over do it somewhat?
One can only built etc on your productive land so far becfore you can't grow enough food.

There is also a lot of salinatizion of farmland in some part of the world.

What do you think?

badboy, welcome to A2K. Humanity has always overdone it. Many civilizations have vanished because of their inability to project the consequences. Florida is quite typical. Developers are only concerned with perpetuating their trade, and not with the viability of the lands that they demolish.

Yes, badboy, and Angkor Watt, an ancient ruin discovered by a man with a butterfly net. The city was peopleless, and probably the result of overworking the land.
