How many solar eclipses do you think you'll see at night?

Is it a solar eclipse or a lunar eclipse?

@tsarstepan,
I love total solar eclipses, but seeing them on camera pales so much in comparison to the real thing that it's not even worth watching (remotely).

from the second link --
Quote:
Today (March 8) the moon will pass in front of the sun, causing the first and only total solar eclipse of 2016.
For skywatchers around the world, here's how to see the eclipse and what to expect.

The eclipse will be visible across Indonesia, from the islands of Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi and Halmahera.
A partial eclipse will be visible over southern and eastern Asia, northern and western Australia, and Hawaii.
Skywatchers in the rest of the world can watch the eclipse live [online]

@Region Philbis,
that explains why we didn't see anything Laughing

(and it's ok anyway - I was so tired when we came out that I couldn't remember why we were supposed to be checking out the sky)

Irony? I posted this thread. I completely forgot about it last night. Not sure if the Wednesday night part is effective in North America or not. Probably forget about it tonight as well (if applicable).

To get a good view you'd have had to have been on a ship in the middle of the Pacific (perhaps between the Marianas and Wake Island). To see it on land you'd have needed to hop a plane to Indonesia.

Unless you would have been happy with just a partial eclipse. Alaska got a brief partial out of it.

The one in August 2017, though, will be directly centered on the United States.

@oralloy,
I'm planning on being at the one in August 2017. I started a thread for it a while back: http://able2know.org/topic/173820-1

Coincidentally my grandparents are from Paducah, KY and many of my relatives are still in that area, so I'm trying to arrange a family reunion to coincide with the Eclipse. Still a bit of time to prepare though Smile
