I'm a glancing reader from the US, but I have followed latin america off and on, in my way, via books and articles and short visits to Mexico and Guatemala, while still staying essentially a know-nothing. Brazil? I've wanted to go there since 4th grade geography, and decades later found the australian Peter Robb's non fiction book, Death in Brazil, really good, a book I kept.
